Assuming there are no further issues then yes, you should have much better signal. I would replace all that old coax with fresh RG6.

Can you give us more info about your antenna and amp models?

Nexxtech TWO-SET UHF/VHF/FM COAX AMPLIFIER:
Two-set amplified coupler. For VHF channel 2-13, FM, mid and super-band cable TV. Boosts each output by 8dB. 2 outputs.

I retreaved this data fron The Source website, I was sure it was only 5dB.

And the antenna is:
Channel Master CM-4221HD

SInce you have the most popular antenna for your area you could try running a new RG6 coax lead directly from the antenna to the TV without any amplification and see how your performance is. Then you could try putting in that amplifier as close as possible to the antenna to see if there is a benefit. Most people would use a proper preamplifier though because they do not add as much noise as your amp will.

Use the Search This Thread tool to the upper right beside Thread Tools and put in your local street names as search terms, and if there are results already posted from where you live you can compare. :)

After the cut over today, here is my list minus the duplicate SD digital channels and analog. 2.1 and 49.1 are much stronger than before and all the 51-X are new. If you include the duplicates, I got 42 channels total. Signal strength is out of 10 on my Samsung. I don't think there are any channels that I'm missing. If I am, please let me know.

I just put up a 4221HD to replace an old cheapo VHF/UHF/FM antenna that I paid $20 a few years ago. This is for a basement TV that is only used a few times a week.

With the 4221HD barely above the eaves and pointing pretty much through another building I get the following:

Channel Strength/Quality
4-1 WIVB-HD 0%/0% No Picture
5-1 CBLT-DT 70%/100%
9-1 CFTO-DT 60%/100%
11-1 CHCH-DT 60%/20%
17-1 WNED-DT 50%/7% Lots of breakups
17-2
17-3
23-1 WNLO-HD 70%/30%
25-1 CBLFT-HD 70%/29%
41-1 CIII-DT 50%/4% Some breakups
44-1 OMNI2 80%/50%
49-1 WNYO-HD 20%/0% No Picture
57-1 CITY-DT 60%/30%
64-1 OMNI1 70%/64%
66-1 SunTV 55%/7%

This was using an EagleStar converter, which appears to be similar to the Sansonic FT300A. The signal is split between another TV and a few FM radios using a RadioShack amplifier and a four way splitter. Removing the splitter and amp gives better results on the Buffalo stations.

It even gives okay results for FM and analog VHF (CBLT on 5, CFTO on 9 and CHCH on 11)

The only thing I noticed so far after the switch is that there is much improved strength for 49-1 and I hope to see 7-1 and 4-1 follow suit and up their strength in the coming days.

Next I still can't recieve WNED which is a damn shame. I'm still getting 17 in analog but can't get their digital. Why oh why!

Also I also see 2-2 and 2-3 as new subchannels showing sports and old movies.

Hopefully things change and get better in the next few days. I want more strength for those us channels in buffalo, etc.

I finally took the plunge and have been struggling to get some good reception in my area. I put up a CM4221 mounted on a J-pole on the side of my house and its pointed generally in the ESE direction. A few days ago I picked up CBC HD at about 45% - 50% and 9-1 at about the same strength.

Today, I was trying to tune the antenna and I've lost the signal for good.

I'm using a Samsung SIR-TS360, CM4221 and a single run of RG6 from the antenna to the tuner.

My goal is to pickup the buffalo stations, which I know is possible as I've heard it here on the forums. Can anyone help????

Jraheb the bow ties are the front of the antenna, pointing southeast mounted upright, tall verticle.Look inside each end of the wire for stray wire touching the centre core.Swap out the balun at the antenna.the samsung 360 is a 2nd generation tuner and dont like multipath signals but should still get many stations.

radeonboy,

Channel 17 WNED analog went off the air 2 months ago [April 15th] , so if you are watching 17 WNED, it must be digital 17.1.

Thanks to the folks here who suggested I get a rotor to fine tune. I have left my antenna pointed South west (at 401 and Mississauga Rd). Would have never known to test this direction (my cm4221 is three stories up as my basement is above ground.)

BUY a ROTOR people, totally worth the investment to fine tune and then not have to touch (until bad weather effects).

Southwest? That's not really the direction you want to be for Buffalo. Southeast is preferable.

And I'll give a ++++1 for a rotator. Totally worth the investment.

my mistake, I'm actually pointed south (exactly). This is my direction between Grand Island and the Hamilton Towers. This allows me to still pick up all Toronto, Buffalo and Hamilton channels (although the least reliable are Global HD Sun TV HD (intermittent every so often).

Well stated TorontoR! A number of people interpret "Rotor" as "can't watch two different channels simultaneously". In reality, it is a tool if used properly that allows us to get signal from all sources simultaneously, especially in our area. It is also very handy for temporary adjustments due to less than optimal atmospheric conditions.

Yes, bowties facing forward and nothing hitting anything, if the samsung is not that great, I'll find something better, I kind of hate that thing anyways (anyone wanna buy it?). Don't know what a balun is - can someone explain??

Jraheb balun is the 75 to 300 transformer that attaches antenna to the cable. If you cant find any problems try connecting to an analog tuner and turn antenna for no ghosting on the Toronto analog stations. You should have and need near perfect pictures of the Toronto analogs,19,41,47,52,57,69,25.IF analog is good then digital tuner is poor.

I was considering the purchase of a pre-amp, but I guess I have to figure out whether its the antenna before I spend anymore money.

Thanks I'll try this and report back

This morning did a re-scan...got a whopping 36 hits (compared to 24). Getting ION and all its versions, also a couple others I haven't seen before.
But where's my 29...it's MIA? Is all this just due to strange atmospheric conditions or the change over?

Great results Garboplex! I just checked and 29 (WUTV FOX) is booming in strong this morning - so likely something on your end I'm afraid!
