I see. Thank you. Would that indoor Zenith Silver whatchamacallit antenna do the trick? I am sure I could eventually do the outdoor antenna route but the easier the better.

I live on the border of Brampton/Mississauga, on McLaughlin Rd South.

I use a Zenith Silver Sensor and pull in everything consistently except for MyTVBuffalo, which is kinda spotty. :)

So yeah, go for the Zenith Silver Sensor if you can!

Hi. I'm new to this sub-forum. I live near Erin Mills Towne Centre Mall (Dundas & 403). I bought a Samsung DTB-H260F and made two home made antennas. Currently they are in my 2nd floor bedroom - one pointing at CN tower and one at Buffalo. I have a 10db amplifier near the antennas as well. Last night I got 17 channels nice & clear.

Toronto:
CBC
CTV
Global (testing)
CITY
SUN
CTS

Buffalo:
PBS
FOX
CW
NBC
ABC
CBS
(Plus I see strong signals for the OMNI channels (44 & 64) but no picture.)

This is great. I hope to put the antennas (antenni?) permanently in the attic this weekend.

Great stuff, falcon1987.
Before you disassemble everthing and make the move, remember that CBS will be showing The Masters in high definition on Saturday and Sunday.
It would be a shame to be in the middle of a set-up transition during some of the best picture quality that is available for golf.

Thanks Timbo. Although I am not a sports viewer I have noticed how amazing sports looks in HD, so I may watch it more now. I do like watching golf after taking golf lessons.

I will try and take pictures of the attic setup once complete.

Angelfish: You can install a tower up to 56 feet in Mississauga!

My tower is 45 feet and boy does it work great :D

I have a tripod mounted CM4228 with a channel master preamp on the roof of my semi detached home. When I mounted it 2 years ago it was aimed in favour of Buffalo since there were very few Toronto stations. In spite of this I get all the Toronto stations except CFTO 9.1.

However, when it rains I get a signal for CFTO off the reflections of the rain. I'm wondering why it is I can get Sun-TV a very weak signal but not CFTO when they both originate from the CN Tower? The analog signal from CFTO is very strong, it's cleaner than my rogers cable feed.

I get all the Toronto stations except CFTO 9.1. Could be PSIP problems.

Marcos17 you are receiving a multipath reflected signal for CFTO-dt which changes when it rains.Try moving your antenna up or turn it slightly more east.CFTO-dt 40 is sharing the transmitting antenna with Global analog on 41.Look at analog 41 for ghosting or double images. Also you may have an overloading preamp from the Toronto analog stations.

Hi all. I finished installing my two homemade bow tie anntenas in the attic over the weekend. Finished in time on Saturday morning to see the Masters in HD - very cool. Here is an image of the channels I am now receiving from Mississauga. This has definately exceded my expectations!

Do you have a pictutre of your home made antennas? What did you make them out of?

Random Dude - I just made two antennas to the exact same spec as described at

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=502262&postcount=76

Total hard cost for each was $6: $5 for the 2X4 and $1 for the reflector backing. I have one pointed at the CN tower and one pointed at Buffalo. The two antennas are connected to a splitter/combiner then sent to an antenna amplifier, followed by a distribution amplifier. Then 50ft of RG59 down to my DTB-260F on the first floor.

I'll have to try that when I get back home.

I'm debating on a project of building a mast from the ground up above the roof to lift up my Winegard HD9065P(ugly, hard to build), or to buy a CM 4228 and hang it in the attic(much easier, exterior friendly). You guys, who has it installed in the attic, what the reception feel like? Those saying "attic sucks", please refrain from comments, I know all consequences of such placement.

I have a single CM4221 in my attic - a CM4228 may not fit through your attic access and I believe it had a more concentrated field, so the spread between Buffalo and the CN Tower may make the CM4221 a better choice.

I get great reception. I get all possible digital channels except 26-1 (Religous channel) and 49-1 (myTV). 2-1 NBC sometimes drops out, will re-aim it sometime. Everything else is solid:

2-1
2-1
4-1
5-1
7-1
7-2
7-3
9-1
17-1
17-2
17-3
23-1
25-1
29-1
35-1
57-1
65-2
66-1

off the top of my head. TVO, ONMI1, ONMI2 and myTV I view analog.

Thanks for reply, kasm. I figured that it may not feet - still have to look at the exact measures. The direction won't be an issue since I have a CM rotator that I was thinking to flip bottom-up and hang somewhere closer to the roof peak.

I have two home made antennas in my attic and pick up most of the same channels listed by kasm. I don't get 35 but am getting 49-1 and 49-2 MyTV out of Buffalo most of the time. My last scan yesterday fetched 19 channels on an DTB-H260F.

I've been digital OTA since last summer. $50, 8 bowtie no-name antennae bolted to the azimuth mount from my BEV dish (which I removed) aimed roughly between CN tower and Grand Island. Toshiba 32" LCD.

I get all of the US stations (2-*,4-1,7-*, MyTV, 29-, 17-* possibly others I've forgotten) all in digital, all great quality.

I have also always gotten 5-1, 9-1, 57-1 from Toronto, and possibly others, always 4 or 5 bars, with 57 being the weakest.

Recently, I heard that Global was finally digital, as was CHCH/E!. Now I think I should be able to get Global, but I've tried 41-1, 65-1, 66-1 and others, but no signal.

A scan for channels shows digital channels available that don't actually work, including one time about 5 or 6 sub channels for 4, several for 5 and other stuff that can't be received.

Also recently, I've been having bizarre problems. It started with getting TWO 4-1 channels. This week, I was getting two 5-1 channels, then sometimes 4-1 and/or 5-1 would disappear completely. A rescan added them back, and I could manually delete the 'first' 4-1 or 5-1.

Anybody in Mississauga (Mississauga Rd and 403) getting Global, CHCH, or CFMT? What did you do to get them?

Anybody at all seeing messed up channel assignments? This was rock solid since last summer and now I'm getting these glitches. Could this be a tuner/TV problem or is it because Global is getting settled in?

All assistance greatly appreciated!
Rob

Rob, have you read through the threads about Global Toronto and CHCH-DT in Hamilton? They've been having lots of teething problems with their PSIP data (Global Vancouver too) so that will go a long way to explaining the problems with them. As for the Buffalo issues, people are reporting in the Buffalo Station Status thread about odd reception due to springtime conditions.

Those are just starting points as to what may be going on with your situation.

robm1962, I live near you at Mississauga Rd. & Thomas. I'm getting Global no problem on my DTB-H260F with home-made bowties in attic and an amplifier. One bowtie is pointed at CN tower.

I don't get CH but that is in the complete opposite direction and don't think CFMT (OMNI-1) is broadcasting DT yet.
