kristagerri if you really want the best DIY antenna, you will want to build either a GH or M4:

Best Do-It-Yourself OTA Antennas (See these links) (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=140206)

and be glad that you did!

I will check those out!! I had all materials on hand so was able to throw this together really quick but definitely am interested in upgrading. The more channels the better:) Have you build one of these?

Yes I have, and in fact the GH antenna was invented here at this site (as were several others like the Stealth Hawk) and the "father" of the M4 antenna is a regularly contributing member here too. Just follow the links in that post and you'll do great.

I've built both types. They both perform exceptionally well. Currently I'm using two GH builds in my attic setup. A friend is using the M4.

thanks,
I lost most of the buffalo stations around 10 this morning....I guess time of day matters for what comes in? I would watch them mostly in the evening anyways but since these look so easy I'll have to attempt to build one to fix that problem if it doesn't resolve itself once the final changes happen on Sept 1...?

I, for the most part, am pretty pleased. The only bugs so far appear to be CFTO and CKCO, only because I was spoiled on their August 23rd test night, and know what they are actually capable of doing (I personally don't think they are transmitting at full power right now). I may have to do some tweaking of my system in the next few weeks to optimize, but here is my channel list:
2.1(.2/.3) 33 NBC(US/RTV)
4.1 39 CBS
5.1 20 CBC
7.1 38 ABC
9.1 9 CFTO *very low signal, but still locks
11.1 11 CHCH
13.1 13 CKCO * depends on weather conditions
15.1 15 SunTV
17.1(.2/.3) 43 PBS(TB)
19.1 19 TVO
23.1 32 CW23
25.1 25 CBC-Fr
26.1(.2/.3/.4) 26 Ind
28.1 28 TVO London *depends on weather conditions
29.1(.2) 14 FOX
31.1 31 CityTV Woodstock *depends on weather conditions
36.1 36 CTS
41.1 41 Global
57.1 44 CityTV
47.1 47 OMNI1
49.1(.2) 49 MyTV(CoolTV)
51.1(.2/.3) 23 ION(QUBO/Life) *most common tropo channel
69.1 51 Omni2

I am getting all cdn channels except ctv 2(only last night for a bit), omni 1, omni 2 and citytv...us channels still only coming in at night mostly, hopefully a better diy antenna will fix the us channels - not sure about the others? Is anyone in Brantford are getting those cdn channels?

Omni 1 is a no show? Omni 2 is coming in but weak. It remaps to 69. City TV is booming in. Can also be found on channel 31 from out near Woodstock I think it is. If you look in the City/ Omni Thread, you will see that a lot of people are having problems with the Omni's . Could stay that way for us until they get back to broadcasting from the CN tower. I am pulling in the usual US stuff as listed below by Marbles plus Channels 54 and 66 out of Erie and Channel 10 (CTV-2/A Channel) out of London.

Ever since those big Toronto CBC & CTV analog flamethrowers shut down, I've had no pixelation issues at all.

Hi,

Friends of mine want to get an indoor antenna in Hamilton. They live in the North end of the city (near the factories). They mainly want to get the OMNI channels--how much luck will they have? I would imagine that they'll be able to pickup the Buffalo channels extremely well but some Toronto channels might give them trouble?

I live near Sherman and Delaware and I have a 4228 in my attic with a Kitztech amp. I get all of the Toronto Stations especially after the transition with almost a 100% signal. I don't get much of anything out of Buffalo.

ota_canuck what kind of setup do you have????

Satallite nOOb:

Even pulling in Toronto stations with an amplified indoor antenna like a TERK will be tough, though not impossible.Used to use one and I would get only about 2 toronto stations(CBC, TVO), and I'm directly across the Lake from the CN tower here on the Stoney Creek lakeside. Once I got a outdoor 4 bay antenna, no amp, and have no problem pulling in all the Toronto stations (including both OMNI stations) minus CFTO which has been acting up since the transition Aug 31. Buffalo stations will be almost impossible with an indoor. Better off going with a outdoor one, where Toronto stations shouldn't be an issue, but Buffalo could still be a problem because of directional issues but at least he will stand a better chance than with an indoor.

See my signature line at the bottom of this post!

I also have a 3way splitter that allows me to have two other HDTV Samsung TVs in other rooms.

fgt - i see you say you can catch london 10 i was just wondering how strong of a signal are you getting on that and how reliable it is, i can catch it but it comes and goes i'm just able to catch it like 5-10%, you just have a DB8 or something don't you? my vhf antenna kind of stinks it's really old funny thing is to catch london i have to point my antenna a little west of erie, not at london, same thing for ctv toronto channel 9 if i point it right at toronto it doesn't come in but if i point it alittle north or east of toronto it comes in... just was wondering how your channel 10 was
