CamDAB 2009-05-08, 03:06 PM CITS comes from the CHCH tower, you should be able to receive it no problem in Hamilton.
Thanks for the info. While borrowing the box for 3 days, CITS never showed up once with multiple scans... Go figure... Rochester came in fine during enhanced reception.... Oh well.... :-)

cgsatguy 2009-05-14, 10:18 PM Thankyou to Stampeder for the great advice! I purchased a CM4221HD & quite happy so far with the performance it has given me on my 10th floor balcony just standing on the floor. I'm looking for ideas to mount it. I do have a satellite dish on a tripod, and I seen a "s" pipe that would be handy but not sure where to get one locally in Brantford. Or if someone has ideas on a non penetrating mount. Any info is greatly appreciated.I will post my results and supply pictures when I obtain a camera. Chuck:)
stampeder 2009-05-15, 11:22 AM Happy to help - you can read everything you'll need to know about mount options in this thread:

There might be some "hacks" you might want to do to the 4221HD to improve it's performance (see the hack thread).
ancaster 2009-05-19, 07:04 PM I've been looking at getting a CM4221HD for some time now. What rotor and preamp should I get for the Toronto and Buffalo towers?
Or is it better getting two antennas?
I still cannot decide how to mount it. I'm a little hesitant using a tripod+mast and putting holes in the roof at the highest peak. Height is key so I don't see another way.
Thanks
PanaMark 2009-05-19, 09:14 PM @ancaster
I would strongly suggest roof mount with tripod. I have had my set up in the attic and feel this affects signal strength. also the added height indeed helps.
I too was on the other side of the fence until just recently. Mind you this is just my opinion, I hope this helps in your choice.

RustyHD 2009-05-19, 09:42 PM You can also do a chimney mount or a gable end mount. I use a gable end mount with a short mast. It puts the antenna a few feet above the peak with no holes in your roof. As far as a Rotator, Channel Master 9521A or something equivalent would be a good choice.

If you get the 4221HD- MAKE SURE YOU DO THE HACKS BEFORE YOU MOUNT.
I've had great success with the CM 7778 pre-amp, not as powerful as the 7777, but still very good- gets me all the BUF/TOR/HAM channels.
Two antennas is trickier, and it depends on what stations you want.
I have both set-ups: (1) a single 4228HD with pre-amp and a rotor; (2) two 4221HDs and joiner with a reverse splitter.

Do you have a triple gang array setup ?
goforit 2009-05-19, 10:22 PM No- two TVs- two separate coax feeds.
ancaster 2009-05-20, 10:57 PM If the CM7778 preamp is not as powerful as the 7777, shouldn't I just go for the 7777?
I will be feeding a 50" Pioneer in the basement, a 46" Sony in the bedroom, a small 15" LG in the kitchen, and a old 32" Sony CRT in the living room. You have two separate coax feeds, is it not advisable to feed all 4 of my TVs with one feed? I pretty much want to be off the Cogeco grid and get as many HD channels as I can. Much thanks for your info.
stampeder 2009-05-21, 02:33 AM ancaster, use the Search This Thread tool to the upper right beside Thread Tools and put in your neighbourhood name, names of surrouding areas, or local street names as search terms, and if there are results already posted from where you live you can compare. :) I found several other people in this thread from Ancaster and the surrounding areas that way, so you will get the channel info and other tips too.
Here is the thread for everything you need to know about antenna mounts:
OTA Mounts, Towers, Rigging Hardware (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=29559)
RedMosquito 2009-05-26, 11:00 AM Question about Hamilton - I live fairly close to the escarpment, specifically in the King/Ottawa area - is there any chance that I can pull in any Buffalo stations from my location?
goforit 2009-05-26, 01:01 PM Some Buffalo signals are very strong- WNLO 23, and WNED 17, you should be able to get these.
stampeder 2009-05-27, 10:57 AM Some of you are getting (or at least trying for) Erie, Pennsylvania stations. A new Station Status thread has been split off here:
Windsor, London, Detroit, Erie, Cleveland, Toledo OTA Station Status (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=107284)
The topic of that thread is purely the broadcasting, regulatory, and technical discussion of the actual stations, with a view to the future of their operations.
This thread that we are now in will continue to be specifically about your local reception results so that new and veteran members can easily look up and discuss their OTA reception from their locations.
cheers :)
rocketsan22 2009-05-28, 03:10 PM Would love to pick someone local's brain for places to get the supplies I need to do this...sounds wonderful...
parity123 2009-05-28, 04:13 PM Hi Rocketsan,
I don't live in Hamilton anymore but I got my antenna and 25' coax from Nutech. They also have Channel Master preamps but were out of stock when I was there. Not sure about mounting hardware. Give them a call to see if they have stock. A CM4221HD might be enough for you but in Oakville I'm getting a good signal from Buffalo and a decent one from CN tower so you may need a rotor and/or another antenna.
Good Luck
tenstu 2009-05-28, 04:17 PM Hi rocketsan22 - as parity123 says, Nutech in Hamilton likely has everything you need - or can get it for you. Prior to Save and Replay becoming our forum sponsor, I used to drive out there from Oakville to get the parts I needed. There is a thread here with buying info - you should check it out - as this thread is mainly for reception results.
rocketsan22 2009-05-28, 05:09 PM Tenstu, and everyone, thanks for hte help. I'm finding the amount of great information at this forum almost overwhelming :)
stampeder 2009-05-28, 05:11 PM Just take your time then, no hurry. :) Which part of Steeltown are you in (nearest major street corner)?
