Idol was good in Calgary. I think soem of the HD problems are regiona. (BC, AB, MB) and some are from the Seattle stations.

I'd like to see Shaw improve the current HD before adding more. Dropouts, audio problems, (anyone watch American Idol last night? Audio was not sync'd up with the picture at all...looked like a poorly overdubbed movie).I work nights and I noticed that a good percentage of the time my recordings has my audio not sync'd with the video. I'm also losing my recordings of shows that end 1 minute after the hour as the recorder ony captures the last minute.

ABC last night during lost and Invasion switch from HD to SD then back again during the show. Any one else notice this.

Yeah it was doing that for most the shows last night. Both audio and video switched back and forth. REALLY annoying!

I posted about this in the What's on in HD thread. It must have been Shaw specific cuz a few people responded that they had no problem.

Yesturday i was on the phone with the shaw tech (Calgary area) getting help with my pvr and while we were waiting for the box to reset i asked her if shaw is going to be adding any more hd channels anytime.

She said that they are in the process of testing 3 channels right now - she didn't know exactly what they are but was able to look up and tell me the stations ID letters (but that didn't help identify what they are). She said that the staff is currently testing the channels and that they will be released to the general public once they feel they are stable enough for the rest of us.

anyway, has anyone heard anything else on this??? Like what the 3 channels will be??

I'd be willing to bet that one of the 3 will be CTV HD, since its already available in Vancouver.

Hopefully the other two will be Discovery HD, Global HD, or possibly an HD PPV?

my bet one of the is "discovery HD" as they are advertising the crap out of it in vancouver. I haven't heard a peep with Global HD though

CTV, Discovery, and if we're lucky WGN....more than likely it would be global or city...

With the upcoming transition of UPN and the WB to the new network,
The CW, I would not expect Shaw to offer WGN, at the minimum, until this transition has been completed.

Unfortunately SRC-HD might be one of the three. And Discovery HD doesn't have call letters.

SRC-HD? Say it isn't so! What a waste of bandwidth if true.

Thats like adding CPAC-HD to the lineup..

Does SRC HD at least have the Habs games on Saturdays in HD?

If not, No Thank you.

I though SRC-HD carried the HD game no matter what, while SRC uses the RDS feed of the game. They don't produce Habs games anymore (that I'm aware of), and RDS does all Sat Night Habs games..

Is there any word on when Shaw might add discovery theater HD to the lineup.

I was just on the Novus Telecom website and they are now offering the following HD channel to the Vancouver market: [notice the last 3]

301 FOX HD
302 MOVIE CENTRAL HD
303 ABC HD
304 CBS HD
305 NBC HD
306 PBS HD
307 SPORTSNET HD
308 TSN HD
309 CTV TORONTO HD
310 CBC TORONTO HD
311 GLOBAL EAST HD
312 CITY TV HD
313 DISCOVERY HD

So I would assume the Shaw would be introducing Global East, City TV and Discovery shortly.

Only speculation on the previous post but....

Yahoo! Global Simsubs... can I pay extra for the privilege?

The ONLY advantages for Global HD EAST (CIII-HD Toronto) would be an East coast timeshift of American HD programming and more Bills games (in upconverted SD goodness) for those who are so inclined.

Hmm, what are the chances of Global sneaking in on the air just before kickoff on Sunday, February 5th?

I remember talking to the Calgary Shaw manager (let's call him Dale) and saying to him, "Who in their right mind would want Global-HD?"

His response, "I think their would be plenty of people."

SCARY!!! :o

----
Looking at Novus' website, their HD feeds appear to be East Coast US feeds of everything. I wonder where they are sourcing the Global and Discovery channels from since Cancom doesn't offer them (yet?!?). However, 301 Fox HD says it is from Rochester, which can't be correct, since neither CANCOM or Evu use the Rochester feed. So how correct can their website be?

Just noticed tonite the Superbowl is only on Global and ABC.
I thought it would be on Fox or CBS.(should have checked earlier)
As usual the little people in Shaw-land who only get the 4 hi-def channels get the shaft(MC,Sportsnet, CBS and Fox).
So now not only do we get no hi-def hockey or olympics or anything else for that matter now no hi-def Superbowl either.
You would think the brainiacs at Shaw mite think, hey maybe we can somehow switch 1 hi-def channel like sportsnet(who show nothing in hi-def) for one day and give our customers something like ABC and the Superbowl just to show we appreciate all the money our customers spend with us.
But no-that would make too much sense and good business practice.
Maybe I am wrong and they just don't have the technology to accomplish that little feat, but somehow I doubt it.
Am tempted to go buy a chainsaw, cut down all the trees around my little shack and go get the Bell dish, or get 200 feet of cable and find a clearing.
So for all you fine folks out there who complain about no discovery HD, no CTV HD or the odd little burp in the picture, it could definitely be worse.
Ok, now time to email and phone Shaw and tell them the exact same thing.
Mite as well have rabbit ears.
Sorry, had to vent.

Switching feeds isn't as simple as it sounds. Chances are the equipment they use to source feeds from CANCOM will not allow this withough switching two channels.
