Any idea if it is the same kind of compressed signal?

As long as they dont start charging more for the timeshifts and call that "Tier 2 HD Plus"

Most systems charge between $7 - $10 for extra HD channels other then the basics (ie ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, CBC and CTV). I think the reason CTV-HD is in the Plus package is because its an out of market local for Shaw customers out west (except for lower mainland)

Hey guys, I couldn't find any reference to this but I just got a letter from Shaw saying they are adding 5 new HD channels.

- CTV HD
- Discovery HD
- A&E HD
- National Geographic HD (launching Nov '06)
- Showcase HD (launching Nov '06)

They are bundling these channels with TSN and Sportsnet and will begin charging $9.00/mo for them.

Looks like if your an existing HD customer then you can trial these until Dec, for free.

What does everybody think? Shaw finally doing something right? or is it too late?

I for one thinks that 13 HD channel for $9.00 a month is unacceptable, I believe Bell's offering includes 29 channels for $10 a month. I would like to see time shifting HD.

I know an extra $9/month isn't going to kill me, but it all adds up. I currently have the "Total Home Bundle", plus I rent my modem, so I'm already just shy of $100/month...my wife is going to kill me ;)

The 29 channels include channels you can't get and PPV.

Like I said earlier I am all For More Hd Channels. But If You Add up the Additional Charges + Rate hike of $4 IN September + $9.00 for the Hd PLus Thats $13 Extra then We Currently Pay. and for 4 Months of Nfl Sunday Ticket $32.95 a Month and In Both of the Packages Still Get Less Hd channels/Coverage Then you Get with Bell Expressvu.

I would be willing to pay IF we also got HD PPV.
SD PPV sucks and I'm far too lazy to go to the video store.

At least with only 6 HD channels in parts of Shaw-land we will not have to worry about all those pesky extra channels and a new charge on our Shaw bill for probably a very long time................sigh.
Krap.

I can't say that I'm too thrilled about this. I personally have no interest in any of the 'new' channels, but I do like TSN & Sportsnet. Now I need to pay $9 monthly for thos 2 channels. I think I'll stick with SD sports when the time comes. Just my 2c...

I probably would have paid extra for more HD channels, but it ticks me off that they pulled TSN & Sportsnet to try to force us to get the upgrade. I don't ever remember them ever saying that these 2 channels were part of a complimentary trial when I signed up and bought my $800 hd/pvr cable box. This part seems like a downright lie!!

quote:
"TSN HD and Sportsnet HD will also become part of this new package. You've been enjoying them up until now as part of a complimentary trial, which continues until December 31, 2006"

Did anybody else ever get told these were part of a trial? Who can we complain to? CRTC?

Does anybody have any information about Showcase HD, A&E, Discovery HD, National Geographic as far as what percentage of all programming is in true HD?
