If you read the other post, you would have seen that tier 1-3 will be moving to digital. There's your bandwidth.

Like anything with Shaw, I'll believe it when I see it.

I understood the link to infer that new HD in the fall, mostly digital line-ups early next year; meaning there is a time where there will be new HD and full analog. I'm not meaning to split hairs here, sorry. It was more for discussion ...

*** Disclaimer ***

This morning, I was literally fired from Shaw (yes, I was actually an employee). The post I made about the upcoming channel launches and the shift to digital was considered a violation of my non-disclosure agreement, so all you Shaw techs/CSRs/TSRs who frequent this site, consider this fair warning. It doesn't matter that the CSRs are telling customers via the call center *or* that we were directed to do so *or* that some of the information has been previously released in press conferences ... post here about upcoming technology or channels at your own risk.

To the Shaw customers ... sorry. All I wanted to do was give you some good news.

Sorry to hear Thruxtonian. This has happened before on this site, so, yes, if you are an employee of a company, unless you are authorized to talk about company information on this site, please refrain from doing so.

It's perfectly acceptable to post on this site about other (non company) issues. It's also a good idea to keep your anonymity by appropriately choosing a username.

Thanks, 57.

As for the username ... that's what nailed me. I drive a Triumph Thruxton motorcycle to work every day and someone put two and two together. I guess I should have been more careful? LOL.

It was a long overdue move that I should have taken care of myself ages ago, so I'm actually relieved.

Thruxtonian:

I am sorry to hear of your firing. We did appreciate the news but I do understand why Shaw would not want the furture timing of events to be public knowledge. Shaw does not want Telus or E*Vu to know the timing of their moves. What will the competitors do with the knowledge that you give them.

The call center staff have been telling everyone, with the full knowledge of the supervisory staff, since the channels were announced at our spring meeting. I was specificallly told by my supervisor to give this information to customers who were thinking about leaving to competitors over channel selection. 3000 people a day call into that call center, so that 'secret' was no longer a secret after the first day.

Had that supervisor not given us the green light to use that info, I wouldn't have posted it.

Then it sounds to me like you would have grounds for a wrongful dismissal suit.

God knows, you'd think getting good, positive news out to customers would be considered a good thing. Guess not....

I don't own one yet, but I've had a chance to take a look at HDDVD at a local A&B store. My impression is that it's not much better than cable HD. Unfortunately, the quality of HD often depends on the source material itself and it would have been more meaningful if I had both a Shaw version and HDDVD version of the same movie for comparison (which I did not have).

I was planning to pick one up, but after seeing the demo and the sparse selection of movies (I think they only had 4, hehe), I decided to wait.

And just to stay on topic, just noticed this rumor on new HD programming (according to his sig, he's suppose to be a shaw employee) :

I just noticed that we're no longer getting NBC HD from buffalo (in winnipeg), it's showing the detroit one. This is the same station that always used to have tons of problems before they switched it to buffalo. Hopefully those problems have gone away!

Hopefully shaw takes after rogers and increases their joke of a bitrate up to the maximum. Id forfeit an HD channel or two for that.

Whoa, lets not talk about giving back what little we have gained in the HD lineup.....

Actually I meant with the new channels that they are proposing. As in, instead of 9 new channels, give us 7, or whatever the numbers may be.

Just noticed this A.M. in Cranbrook that we now have channel 306, TSN-HD on the old channel guide, no picture yet but all the program info is there.
Typical Shaw, give us TSN-HD one day after the last HD hockey game of the year on TSN. Oh well, better late than never.
Now up to 6 HD channels, can ABC, NBC, PBS and CTV be far behind?
One other question, on my DCT6200 when you hit HD channel services it says:
CBSED CBS east
FOXED FOX east
so on and so on
(does that mean CBS west and such are coming as well-HD timeshifts?)

But on my 6412 it says the old standby
CBSED Requires DCT5100/6200
so on and so on.

How or why are they different, if anything shouldn't they be reversed with the newer info on the 6412 box?
thanks in advance
