We saw King Kong last night with some friends and overall I'd say we all really enjoyed it. I have never seen the original but two of our friends who saw it a few nights ago said that Peter Jackson's was faithful to the original in many ways. What I can comment on is that special effects really are fantastic, sound is phenomenal, and the acting is pretty decent. It's a long movie - 3 hours - but I never found myself wondering 'when is this gonna end!?' (except when I had to take a wiz really bad towards the end). I think what I appreciated the most was the fact it was a really good movie with no swearing, no sex, and no graphic violence (some many debate me on the former but I felt the violence wasn't 'over the top' like it easily could have been). I'd give it :D :D :D out of 4. How about everyone else?

Good popcorn flick. My fav action flick of the year remained Batman though...

Loved it. Excellent movie. I only go to like 2-3 movies a year (I dont remember if I went to anything this summer at all), and Im glad I went to see Kong.
Peter Jackson ain't no fat Kiwi anymore, now hes just a great director.

Kong was absolutely terrible... I thought it would never end. Absolutely every cliche in movie history was used. Relentless irrelevant dialog scene's. At least 1 full hour of this movie should have been on the cutting room floor.

I am advising people not to waste thier time going to see this one. Judging by the less than 1/4 full movie theatre last Saturday, I am not alone in this opinion.

I went to see King Kong on opening day. Overall I liked King Kong even though I did find that the movie was too long. I was surprised to notice that half the theater was empty during an evening showing of the film. Due to the hype and publicity that this movie received in the media before it opened I anticipated that a bigger crowd would come out to the theater to watch it. I had no trouble getting in.

Yeah, I think this movie was a huge waste of cash ....of course, that's the decision of the Producers and Financiers, I guess.

What's the point of re-making a classic? All the imagination was in the original film, in this remake they have nowhere to go with the concept except to crank up the volume: in the original, Kong fights one T-Rex...in this one he battles three of them. To be honest, all the CGI effects are starting to bore me.....still, the movie certainly looks and sounds gorgeous.

In the first movie, Kong is just a monster.....there is no explanation for his existence except to drive the horror of the movie; in the remake Jackson seems to be trying to make a real animal out of him, but then you must ask yourself: how can a beast that large survive? He would be far too heavy to move, let alone leap about like a jackrabbit. I have the same problem with the rest of the animals on the island...they seem to have nothing better to do than to drop their food and go careening off after Naomi Watts. I mean, I can see why *I* would wanna chase her, but 3 T-Rex's....??? She wouldn't be more than a mouthful for them....

Oh, well, I guess it's all harmless fantasy. I liked the scenes of 1930s New York, however....

The "irrelevant dialog" was integral to the character development. It can't just be 2 hours of Kong smashing things, as much as some people would like that.

There are a number of "in" jokes a lotta people may not get....such as when Carl Denham asks his assistant if "Fay" is available to do his picture and the guy tells him she's working on a picture for RKO.....(heh-heh!). I think Denham then replies that she must be doing a movie for "Cooper".....

Anyway, once something becomes too self-referential, I think it's a sign there isn't enough original thought taking place.....

Saw it this weekend and loved it. Yes it's a bit long but still great. I loved the ending. I was getting vertigo during the Empire State scenes.

Still think they should have trimmed it a bit more (Jimmy & Heart of Darkness?). Found the "Capture" scene the most emotional one...Ann should have grabbed the harpoon & shot the captain with it! I was always CHEERING when Kong got a plane or threw someone away! Yea KONG!
They SHOULD do a re-make where he's captured and returned home...

For me it was the effects used - minitures etc - I did find the Trex fight a little long.

The only real thing I didn't like about this movie was Adrian Brody.

Actually I found Adrian Brody & Jack Black ANNOYING....wrong casting in my book. I can see why Ann would prefer Kong over Brody. And Jack Black quickly returned to his standard "I'm Jack Black and i'm a funny guy".

Can't get myself to go to the theatre to see it. 3+ hours in there with no breaks and no beer (gotta my beer with my popcorn according to the liberals)....

I'll wait for the DVD and watch it with my projector.

I thought Kong was very good. About 20 minutes too long on Skull island, and a few other minor things that didn't work for me, but otherwise good entertainment.

I thought Jack Black and Adrian Brody were fine in their roles. Black was maybe a little too "cartoon-y" at times but Brody was fine.

Universal is planning to release(DVD) Peter Jackson's King Kong on 3/28.
