Take a look at the Digimate 37" LCD(http://www.emiglobal.com/lcd/dgl37.html) PQ is fantastic out of the box.

I've got the Prima HD plasma and have not noticed any image problems in 480p, 720p, or 1080i. Also, the box and manuals do say 10000:1 contrast. I wonder if there are different versions of this set out there

HD football was awesome last weekend - I even got my girlfriend to watch for a while, and she has never watched football with me before :)

I got my Prima on Boxing Day ($1899) and have had no issues. I didn't bother with the HDMI as component cables were provided and my Rogers HD box would have required a DVI to HDMI adapter ($40). So, My DVD (component 1) and HD Television (Component 2) are working and looking awesome!

I'm wondering if the people with the horizontal line problems have tried using a component hookup? Also I have found that I get the best picture results using the "Weak Signal" preset.

As for anybody contemplating the PRIMA, I highly recommend it as it has actually exceeded my expectations as to how it would perform!

I bought a Legend 40" LCD HDTV on boxing day from The Brick. Legend is just a rebranded Prima unit and it's an identical unit as this Prima

http://www.primaamerica.com/calc40t17.asp

Except that it's all black. Totally satisfied with this unit. The only problem I have is that I can't get my Harmony 628 remote to make it change input. Been pulling hair for the past two days with it and I guess I'll have to call Logitech.

Has anybody got a Harmony remote to change source fine with a Prima TV?

I had to use the "learn" feature to apply the input selection to my Kameleon remote.

On another note, does this tv do PIP? I don't think mine does but this site indicates otherwise

Is that TV not on the Brick's site? I see the black 40" lcd, and the silver 42" EDTV but no 42" HDTV.

I can't go check. The Brick's site is blocked by our corporate proxy server because it's seen as a auction site. Go figure..

Sorry didn't read your post closely enough! That would be a 40" lcd.

Hey, I'm interested in purchasing the Prima HD amd I was wondering if you guys could get the settings on the tv to display an acceptable level of detail in dark scenes. I saw this set at a BB and the dark level detail was a bit lacking imo. The picture looked a little washed out as well, just wondering if you guys are experiencing this as well. Because I don't totally trust the displays at the stores.

Firstly, don't trust the appearance of low end displays at BB or FS. I am convinced that the purposely screw up the image on low priced models to steer you to the higher priced and higher commissioned name brands. I'll put my Prima's "out of the box settings up against any plasma I've seen.

As for black level, I found that on the factory preset "Weak Signal", black level is perfectly acceptable.

The dark level detail is lacking out-of-the-box, and many plasmas I've seen have this problem. The default contrast, brightness and color are all 50 out of 100. I upped the brightness to 75, left the contrast at 50, and lowered the color to 45. I find this gives a much more natural looking image with pretty good detail in all areas. The only issue is some visible noise in very dark areas of a single color (where on the default settings it would just be a solid black area), but I have to actually look for it to really notice it.

My brightness setting may seem high, but this setting actually affects MINIMUM brightness, so areas that are already bright are not affected by this setting, only darker areas. It won't have much affect on the lifespan of the screen or burn-in. It's the contrast setting that controls the MAXIMUM brightness and I find that this can be left at the default setting or even lowered a bit as this screen is quite bright.

This is all when hooked up to a Motorola 6200 HD receiver. I have different settings for my LG DVD player, but I don't remember what they are as I haven't played a DVD for weeks - the HDTV signal is so good that's all I watch!

I just bought an Insignia INP4227 from BB which is a Prima PH42T7 in disguise. Great picture, and quite happy with it……. I just a few questions regarding a few things.

I have it presently connected to my (Shaw 6200 HDTV Box) with a DVI to HDMI cable and in HDTV resolution (19?? x 1080 x 60Hz) it looks great. When I am viewing a non HDTV channel (4??x9??x60Hz) the pictures looks great but it appears I need to shift the image over to the left a bit account there is a small vertical ¾” black line along the left edge of the image. When I try to go into the options, the picture center feature is greyed out. Have anyone else exp this? This line does go away and the picture is properly centered when I switch over to a component connection with the Shaw box. One thing I noticed, when I switch from DVI to Component connection the resolution info changes from 60Hz (DVI) to 30 Hz (Component) Why does this happen? And what difference will this make to PQ? Also, while watching last night I noticed the screen to rapidly flash or flicker at times, seemed to happen more often when a large white image would appear or if I changed channels to a white image.

I did notice Samsung all over the circuitry boards when looking through the vents at the back of the case.

I think it’s a great plasma for the price..

Yes I got mine on Wed. of this week after taking back 2 of the older HDPLTV42 Insignia plasma's for the same reason I have the same problem when I use the HDMI input for HDTV box or my DVD player the image is shifted call PWW www.pwwservice.com and ask to talk to the tech. not the customer service rep they don't know crap I talked to him and he said that they where working on the problem but the more complaint's they have on it the faster they will find a solution I must say now that I have the INP-4227 that the older HDPLTV42 is not even close in picture quality.

*** UPDATE ***

I have fixed my resolution and image shifting problems. In the setup menu of my HD cable box, there is a default setting when the cable signal is not HD. The factory default is 480i, the other option listed in the manual is 480p. I choose 480p and all looked ok, except the image shifted left, leaving a small bar on the right side. So I went back in the Cable Box set up and found another option in the default option that is not documented "stretch". I selected stretch and now all is ok. Not only are the images filling the entire screen, the tv no longer switches from 1920x1080x60hz to 400 x 720 x 60hz, it stays on the high setting of 1920 x 1080 x 60hz. Every channel now looks awesome, clear, sharp, and bright.
I am a little confused of the definition of resolution (1920x1080x 60Hz) is 1080p not 1080i. 1080i is defined as 1920x1080x30 Hz. So what does this mean? Does this Plasma do 1080p if so then wow............ what a deal!!! This resolution occurs only in the DVI to HDMI connection config, when componet cable is used the tv drops it to the 1920x1080x30Hz resolution.

From what you are saying you have not fixed your problem because the set should fill the screen without stretching the picture digitally it still has the problem also did you try your DVD player on the same resolution though DVI or HDMI if it still has the line on the left side as mine does its still a default in the TV.

Your probably correct, as the stretch option is mearly a band aid and not a true fix, but I am happy with the picture this provides. What I wonder about is when I select the other two default res options 480i or 480p on the cable box the plasma set will bump down the res to 4 x 7 x 60hz, with non-HD channels and on the stretch option the set stays at the 1920x1080x60hz resolution?
Also, with my dvd I can only connect with components as it does not have a digital video output. With the DVD player output option set to 16x9 the image on the screen is centered and looks great, it does have the bars on the top and bottom as the movie was a wide screen format As I mentioned above, when the set is connected with the component cables to the cable box, the screen is centered.

I purchased this tv in janurary. and so far, I LOVE IT. so cheap too. People say PQ is not as good as the higher end models. but you cant tell, especially when you dont have other tvs side by side when you bring it home. HDTV programming is superb.

Only minor draw back, is that red text look a little blured. no horizontal line problems for me so far. Love the connections at the back, DVI + HDMI + 2 HDcomponent. Currently I have upconverting DVD on HDMI, Computer on DVI, HDTV on HDcomponent.

My recommendation is to not get Upconvertiing dvd player, I see no difference what so ever. I rather you buy a cheap divX progressive scan save your money for Blueray.
