The framing was completely wrong throughout all 3 movies.

Not completely true. The matting applied was off on some scenes on two of the disks. I had mind replaced free of charge.

And contrarey to another post, the aspect ratio was not incorrect neither.

Completely irrelevant to the topic, but it was not "some scene" has discussed heavily on the home theatre forums.

no i did not see the memo, but store manager is a friend of mine so why would he lie. as he stated this is the final version they were shipping to canada, universal intended the disc to be this way, dont ask why, cause i sure as hell dont.So all this is wrong?! Perhaps you need to speak with your friend again and asked him why he, ah, misdirected you.

the info he gave me he got from universal, maybe enough people complained along with retailers that were shipping all their island dvd back to them, either way its good they are replacing discs. the only bad thing is we have to wait a while to get these new discs. as for the rental market. rogers, blockbuster, i asked if they have heard anything from universal to replace the discs but they have heard nothing at all.

I just got the exact same email from Universal.

Luckily I already returned the DVD to the store. I'll just re-purchase it when they re-release it in March.

I went though hell to get my Jurrasic Park DVD exchanged when it had that bass problem. Drove way out of town to the head office for them to give me a new disk. Never again.

I am glad that Universal will be re-releasing this DVD with the 5.1 track, this movie needs the surround track.

A few things I did notice...

when I rented it and poped it in my DVD player it started with the French track by default. It wasn't until I had to go to the audio menu did i find that there was not the 5.1 english track. I called Rogers Video and they knew nothing about it, the woman checked the other boxes and said they all said they had the 5.1 english track. Could it be that Universal packaged the full French version for Quebec for all of Canada. Don't know if anyone else experienced this.

Also I was in Bestbuy the other day and noticed all the copies they were selling had a small sticker with Dolby 2.0 english stuck over the 5.1 english on the package. The sticker was put on the outside of the plastic wrap which I found quite humerous. Of couse the sales guy knew nothing about it when I questioned him on it. I don't think he even knew what a 5.1 surround track was!

Anyway looking forward to buying when they get this all straightend out.

I know I am either going to order a US Edition off amazon...or stick it out for the 5.1 Canada release.

My only concern....

How will you be able to tell the old stock from the new 5.1 stock. Especially if all the packaging already says 5.1 on it!?

I noticed the movie Match Point setup choice offers no 5.1 choice.
Mono english or mono francais.

All the Woodman's movies are mono. And no extras, neither. That's the way he wants it. Cheers.

The Island is coming to TMN-HD on July 15, supposedly with DD5.1 sound.
