: Activation Fee

Just contacted XM and they confirmed that they are not willing to waive the activation fee to match the same offer by Sirius. Just another example of companies spending millions in advertising to draw in customers and when there is an opportunity to get a customer, they close the door in his/her face.

Realistically, the trade off for a $15/$20 fee is potentially a lifelong customer.

Yea, I know it's not a lot of money but an activation fee here and a service access fee there, all add up.

One positive point: it makes selecting a service that much easier.

C'mon you would really pick Sirius over XM for $20?

I mean what about the $24 a year you save with XM on monthly programming?

Activation fees are a standard business practice for satellite radio. Even Sirius Canada has set a cap of 50,000 users and then they will start charging a fee.

That bites. XM US just announce free activation if you subscribe online by Dec 31.

That's not really a fair comparison when Sirius offers roughly, an additional 20 channels over XM.

Also, Sirius offers a free month if you pay a year.

One big issue with Sirius right now is there is no decent recievers at dealers around in Edmonton. Maybe they just don't have decent recievers period.

Now not sure how that goes for the rest of Canada though.

The Audiovox XCS9 for $79.99 kicks butt over Sirius models at the same price or even $20 more.

I wasn't making a comparision, I was simply incredulous that you would pick Sirius over XM for $20.

Hey Guys..

Just watch how XM Canada charges you. I got hit when I activated my second radio on-line. They charged me double in terms of the second radio - full price as if it was the first. I had to call Toronto and get them to place both units onto ONE account , not two. I think that the second unit on should be activation free. I was close to trying to get activation under a US address but backed-out as to keep my money in Canada. I also wish we could get the extra channels toooooooooo !
