Great News, it looks like it was a 'forced' download and not the 7 day overnight opportunity download bantered about.

i prepared a huge list of problems that i have been having with my 530 and i called starchoice this morning and asked to speak to a manager. the csr wanted to know why i wanted to speak to a manager. i started reading the list of 20 some odd items. she put me through to a supervisor before i finished reading the list. i read the list to that supervisor and told him it was unacceptable. he put me on hold and came back to say that he contacted some other department and they would try to get me upgraded asap. around 6 pm this evening my machine rebooted and went through a series of numbers. i now have BC and am very happy about it. so far it seems to be working really well. i have not had much time to test it, but many of the bugs i was experiencing are now gone. two bugs that are still there are on playback of an HD program, if you press pause and then press MENU and then EXIT, your entire screen goes black. this only happens if you are using 0000 mode. at least it comes back on when you hit play. the previous version kept the screen black even when pressing play. so i can live with this. the 2nd bug is the dvi output still does not function as it should. the other bugs i have not seen yet. i really love the fact that the name of my show is now showing up in the timer list. that is very awesome. it was so difficult to determine what was being recorded previously. even fixing some of the bugs makes me happy. it gives hope. i will let you know if i find anything else.

It seems tricky for the box in 0000 Native mode doesn't it?
It must be all the extra scaling and switching between the graphics and the video operating at 2 different resolutions.

I bet it's quite solid if locked at 1080i or 720p.

I don't recall on any of the alledged fix lists posted here, their being any mention of DVI improvements.

I thought the plan was to wait and do it right and do HDCP at the same time.

Wait until when exactly, the Christmas 2006 bug fix? It's not unreasonable to expect the DVI interface to work with or without HDCP. Sheesh!

i don't know about you guys, but for me even waiting 1 week for this machine to work is 1 week too many. maybe i have been lucky. i have never purchased anything before that was riddled with so many bugs. granted they tried to do what they could for me today by giving me the BC version. i still have not had much time to examine that version. in any case i am not happy that there are still some things not working. i am sure lots of effort was put into the fixes. this probably would have been a better time to fully release the 530. not back at the beginning of the year. i believe the gun was really jumped with this unit. the dvi connection should be working like other dvr's. it's not a huge deal considering we can use component for now but it does cause concern.

So a few of you guys are saying you contacted *C and they forced a BC download to your receivers?

I'm going to contact them right now!!!

You've gotta love *C. I requested the BC code last night on Dialogue Zone and got the feedback today...my DVR 530 is getting upgraded as I type. It should take 1 hr to complete the download/reboot as per *C.

I used Dialogue Zone last night as well, and received notice that they will be doing the upgrade this afternoon. I can see the display on the front of the unit counting upwards, presumably counting packets or bytes of transfer. I'm looking forward to testing the upgraded code.

I contacted SC through Dialogue Zone this morning about the BC code and received an email back stating that they will perform the download.

I hope it's all done and ready to go by the time I get home tonight. :D

Here's a list with some of the features I have been able to test (these are from the original posts by other members)....please add/update...


1. ..... Press "Info" and then select a new "2 Go To" menu item and then enter 120 which would take me 1 minute 20 seconds (or 120 seconds whichever is more intuitive) into the recording. No need to fast forward, skip etc. This works in HOURS:MINUTES

2. .... What if we had a feature where if you are watching a live/recorded show and I press 10 (1 then 0 buttons) and then the Skip Backward button, the show would Skip Backwards 100 seconds (Assuming the default 10 sec Skip Backward). This allows you to for example skip an advert where you are normally pressing the Skip Forward button 6 times, press 6 then Skip Forward. It would be limited to 99 auto presses as 3 numbers would select a channel.

3. .... the receiver has problems playing back when there is no tuner input - you need to turn off the buffer to solve the problem.

4. Confirmation of Delete shows.

5. .....A browse bar that goes beyond the next program and a time remaining clock in playback and stuff.

6.Wrong show does not Pop Up when DELETING shows. Also, CONFIRMATION Message is displayed when deleting.

7. RESUME function works properly

8. ....some sort of time clock available while you are watching recorded programs, so that you can know how much you have watched and how much you have left.

It makes it difficult to know if you already have selected a show for recording. Even the INFO button does not do anything on that screen."

11. "...I LOVE the fact that the machine remembers your position that you left off at in all recordings. That is one thing that the Scientific Atlanta PVR did not do. If you stopped a recording and started playing another recording, you would lose your place."

12. FUTURE: "......The guide for the 530 series will be pushed ahead from 3 days to 2 weeks. I think it will be included in this download. ...it's not coming next week or next month even but maybe in the summer or @ the end of the year!"

Just got a forced BC download.

Anyone else notice a screen flicker when entering option 4 system settings, and then slow response when in option 7 system status?

I never had this with A8.

Some more BC features:

14. OPTIONS, MUSIC SETTINGS now has SCREENSAVER TIMER option

15. OPTIONS, 6-4-8-1, DVR settings has a RESERVED setting (don't know what it does)

16. Broken Recordings indicate the Reason for the same (in my case power failure)

I suffered from the first lockup after BC upgrade today. I moved from a channel out of my favorites settings (298) to another in my favorites settings (293). After that, the receiver was locked at 293...green satellite, but does not respond to the remote. I had to reset it to get control back.
