Exactly, what can we users of the 530 do? My receiver is plauged by multiple bugs!! The skip forward function no longer works. Many season finales were not recorded last week. Half the time the sound is not recorded, especially on ABC east. Why are we paying upwards of $80.00 per month for a product that doesn't work?

Sounds like you are having more than the typical glitches. The skip button shouldn't stop working as well as not recording sound. Have you reset the unit (held down the power button on the front of the the unit....not the remote....for 8 seconds). You may need a new unit anyways.

Why are we paying upwards of $80.00 per month for a product that doesn't work? That's the exact question I've been asking myself Shelley, but the answer to that is simple - we've already invested $805 into the DSR530. Unless you are some kind of a millionaire, shelling out another several hundred bucks in the span of a year for TV is unlikely. StarChoice knows this, and they know they got us by the you-know-what. The only thing we can do now is warn others about the DSR530. It's obvious that a fix won't be coming any time soon. We have all been waiting a year and for the life of me I don't know where some get their optimism. I guess you can beat some people over the head dozens of times and they will still think you are a great company. Too bad StarChoice was not as loyal to their customers as some of their customers are towards StarChoice.

In the end though, we will remember StarChoice for this huge blunder. When something else comes along like HDTV via Internet, that's when we can say bye bye now.

I knew it!! I knew that this would happen. See already internet TV is starting to make a presence and it won't be too many more years before the dishes will be coming down.

Thanks for the great info.

My internet connection (in the middle of the city) can barely even stream 300K video in a tiny window. Its supposed to handle HD-quality video how?!

Not to mention the piracy/copyright concerns, I think true TV over internet is a loooooong way off.

Maybe, but the only reason our speeds are slow here is because of the CRTC. Japan, Hong Kong, and other countries have much higher speeds than ours. We're only allowed so much due to the CRTC. This will need to change, and I'm sure it will otherwise Canada is going to be in trouble. Canada and the US used to be on top when it came to new inventions and good customer service. We are still on top in some areas, but we definitely need to be versatile enough to keep up with what's going on out there.

I sure hope that you are wrong as i do not have internet in the middle of nowhere. Never have and never will because the area is so remote at my cottage.

This would really be bad news for those who owns a cottage and have a second dish just like me.

No worries, you'll just use a dish for Hi-Speed 2-way interent at the cottage.
I've seen the new Anik F2 KA Band internet product. Other than a slight latentcy for gamers, every bit as competative as cable broadband.
Just the price is a bit high right now.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Did you not read that Starchoice is under attack for allowing a "free" reciever at the cottage. The cable companies are screaming that this is unfair and want it changed.

So don't tell anyone where you dishes are.

(come up with a stall tactic if SC phones and want the numbers off the recievers that are supposed to be in your house)

Doesn't Shaw CABLE own Starchoice?
I don't think the CAB (Canadian Association of Broadcasters) represent their views and in fact are generally considered unfriendlies.

Shaw even dropped the membership in the CCTA (Canadian Cable Television Association) and then CCTA folded soon after.

I think you'll find it's a conspiracy by those businesses who are just plain greedy and want a bigger slice of the pie than they already have.

Almost sounds like a Bell tactic based on their past flimsy complaints like Omnibus and other such lame complaints.

I have heard that some people are claiming to have extra receivers in their homes, but in fact the extra receiver is hooked up to their next door neighbour's living room. One guy I know told me that he has 2 Bell receivers, but one is hooked up at his brother's house in Kingston which is miles away from here. I guess these people are getting somewhat of a deal, but should they get caught it could be trouble. It's amazing how some people will brag about stealing services to people at work and to their friends. It's one thing to do it, but then to broadcast you are doing it is totally senseless. This is how people eventually get caught - they tell the wrong person.

Seriously. Some people are actually proud of themselves. Can you beleive the people my wife and I are buying our new house from actually offered to sell us, and I quote, their "illegal satellite system that gets 500 channels for free." For a moment I considered telling a fib and saying I was a Police officer just to see their reaction, but thought better of it in the end....

Unfortunately I believe it worked perfectly last time.

Lets hope it doesn't happen again...

Brief history - had the first 530 and the BC Code. Worked fine (with most of the inherent bugs) until the new code killed the unit. Since I installed the replacement I have been plagued with audio dropouts and slight video pixalations in my recordings. We don't watch live tv as we record everything. Had a factory reset which seemed to cure it for a while but I am now getting the dropouts (mainly audio) on PBS Sportschannel and several other channels. Have tried all audio settings and inputs to no avail. My signal strength ranges between 69 and 85 depending on channel. The dropouts occured during the sun phases which can cause this problem but some of the dropouts are occuring at night when I have recorded boxing events. I have changed cables and still no go. I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing such problems and if anyone has any ideas as to the cause. I really don't wish to go through the reset again.
Thanks
Lester

I had a 530 that exhibited some of the same audi issues that you are having. I swapped it out and the audio problems went away. I suspect that there are units in the spares inventory that are returned and tested as 'No Fault Found' and just put it back into inventory.

I wonder if the SC repair techs ever check the UA to see what the history of problems has been?

Thanks for responding Osmosis. This only happenned after I exchanged the unit so what you are saying makes sense. However, it does not happen all the time to all stations. I would like to hear from anyone else who has experienced these Audio dropouts.

Talking to a *C TSR today and he told me that Motorola handed over the code writing for the DSR530 to *C. Anyone else know anything about this.He also said that the new code could be available any time from 2 weeks to 2 months. Hope its sooner than later.
