Fill 3 gallon jug, empty it into the 5.
Fill 3 Gallon jug again, fill the remainder of the 5- leaving 1 gallon in the 3 GJ.
Dump the 5 gallon jug out.
Pour the 1 gallon that's in the 3 GJ into the 5 GJ
Fill the 3 GJ again, and pour it into the 5 GJ

Or, just fill the 5 GJ 80% full. :D

Connect all the dots. You can not lift pen/pencil (anything). You can only use 4 lines.

The O's are the dots and the ........... are just spaces which should be ignored.

my terribly rudamentry jpeg solution...

A little one to tide us over in the interm...

Tarzan and Jane are having guests over for dinner. Jane tells Tarzan to rush to the market to pick up 3 melons before the guests arrive. The market is on the other side of the river from them, so he crosses the bridge and gets the melons. As he is returning he sees that the guests have arrived so he better book it back home or Jane will be upset he's late and claim the whole night is ruined (only those with wives will appreciate that). One problem though: the bridge only can hold 200 pounds and he weighs 196 pounds while each melon weighs 2 pounds, for a total of 202 pounds. How does he get them across?

Why not just set one melon down, take the other 2 across, and come back for the last one?

Or am I missing something.

Found the triangle puzzle but it is a picture and not sure how to load it. I can't put on sympatico web page till I get home........any suggestions.

Sorry I shoulda been clearer myself...

1) He's gotta get there ASAP or Jane will get mad - no time to go back and forth

2) No trees near the river - thus no vines

3) He can't throw em or they'll break

4) He can't roll them or they might break or fall off the bridge

5) Jane can't leave to help because the company has already arrived

6) And she can't send her company cause that would just be rude ;)

Connect all the dots. You can not lift pen/pencil (anything). You can only use 4 lines. You forgot the word "straight". Without that word, I can connect the dots with one curved line. (My math/science teachers always "hated" me).

I'm quite capable of "thinking outside the box".

Your right. It is supposed to worded with straight lines.

Ya I had a love/ hate relationship as well. They hated when I had to correct them or gave them alternative.

Here's Joe's Triangle puzzle:

I don't see what there is to solve - isn't it just more of a "well isn't that interesting" sort of thing? The peices have simply been rearranged so it's no longer a complete triangle.

If you look at the size of the triangle it is the same.

It was not something interesting to me. I had to figure out why there was a 1X1 open square when the pieces were re-arranged.

There is a fairly simple answer. However seeing the answer is not easy. It is possible to figure out. In the math class I think myself and one or two other people figured it out.

I will give a clue later in the day.

How did Tarzan do it??

Are they actually triangles? It appears as though the first one's top line is lower while the bottom one's top line is higher. Are they actually different images?

Without giving anything away. You "might" be on right track.

Every coloured piece is identical in size.

I think acSlayta is correct. It's more of an "Illusion" than a puzzle. The only way to really prove that theory is with a bunch of math that'll make my head hurt.
