Yes, the plasma displays are quite sensitive to burn in, even more than CRT television sets. The DLP projection TVs are immune to this. LCD is less prone, but you can experience stuck pixels if you leave LCD for too long with the exact same display. With the cost of the TVs along with electricity it seems somewhat wasteful to leave your TV on an imitation fireplace channel.

Lets all sell our crappy gear on e-bay and go read a good book!
Oh wait, we might spill milk and cookies on it and books aren't cheap nowadays.
Maybe it's just safer to walk the dog for a walk, what harm can come from that, except maybe the pooper scooper breaking!

On a serious note, it's my understanding that the latest generation of Plasma's do not suffer burn in, is that correct?
Does anybody know when SED's wil be out to test drive?

Modern plasmas from the top manufacturers are quite resistant to burn in -- you'd have to do something quite silly to get it (e.g., display a static image for days on end).

You will still occasionally see temporary image retention, but that goes away as other programming is watched.

Bottom line is that if you don't worry about burn-in on a CRT, you don't need to worry about it on the newest plasmas.

Back on topic, I don't like this years "Fireplace" as much as last years Yule log. To me, it looks and sounds too fake.

The cracking sounds like someone in the background popping bubblewrap to me. I like it though, I didn't see it last year, but I think it could be nice to fall asleep to.

The sound this year is BRUTAL

I suppose I could just turn it down.

It has a different set of logs this year, even has someone coming in and stirring the fire and adding a log.
