: Toshiba 42HPX95 Plasma
ewerx 2005-12-01, 06:02 PM I don't think there is already a thread dedicated to this TV yet. :)
Toshiba Product Page (http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.grp?lg=en§ion=2&group=6&product=5145&category=)
MSRP for the 42HPX95 is $4500 (as of 01-Dec-05), and London Drugs price is $4000 (but website says it's out of stock). Anyone seen it anywhere else? I read in another thread someone got it from AVU for $3400. That's a nice deal. I also read that Costco might carry it, any word on that?
I believe this is the same panel as Panasonic 42PX500 and HP PL4200N. For those who already own this panel, any particular reasons why you chose it over others?
BaldWookie 2005-12-01, 08:55 PM I saw it today at Oakville Sight and Sound for $3500.- on their Christmas sale.
Looks like a nice TV. I am considering it..... Actually looks nicer than the Panasonic. If the panel is the same I would prefer it, since it has 2 HDMI inputs (one for Sat and one for the DVD).
Anyone own this panel? Any feedback would be appreciated.
mrhooie 2005-12-02, 11:12 AM we just got one of ours in yesterday. haven't set it up yet. we also hhave the EDTV version and I'm pretty impressed with it
we've fed it 480p from DVD and 1080i from a Sony HDTV HDD and it looks pretty crisp
merlyn 2005-12-02, 12:57 PM I've had mine on order at AVU. Got it for 3400. Hope they come in soon, i was hoping to have it this week.
ManoNegra 2005-12-07, 04:17 PM Hi folks ... I own Toshiba 42HPX95 for more than 2 weeks now. I was sold 100% on Panasonic px500U plasma and as far as I can remember that TV was always my first choice. Not long ago I had a chance to compare these two sets one beside each other (Golden Electronics). They didn't have px500U but px50 ... anyway these two have the identical PQ. After 20 minutes of watching both screens, I couldn't find absolutely any sign of Panny's superiority in any shape or form. In fact, Toshiba's picture had more depth, more details and blacks really looked black. I was absolutely amazed with this TV! The deal breaker..... More options, additional hook-ups, 2 HDMI ports and $500 less than Panasonic. BTW, glass on 42HPX95 is made by Panasonic.

Sounds great ManoNegra. I am also considering this over the Panny. 2x HDMI inputs is a real bonus. And $500 less than Panny makes it same price as a commercial model Panny! How much did it actually cost you?

Hi there,
I have 2 questions...
1) How much did you pay?
2) What was dealing with Golden like? (I love the prices, but I'm afriad to purchase because I'm nervious that if I have a defect they'll sned me to manufacture...instead of swap out like FS)
Thanks in advance.
SiGuy33 2005-12-07, 09:23 PM I've had a 42HPX95 for a couple weeks now... first one in Western Canada as far as I know, lol. I bought it from AVU for $3399, I ordered it at the end of October. Anyway... everything you hear about this panel is true. It is beautiful. I am a huge Panasonic fan but I simply could not turn down the extra features/options this TV has for the price, and the PQ is stunning. Xbox 360 in HD looks incredible. The panel is made by Matsushita (I have posted proof on www.avsforum.com) and since my panel itself has a build date of July 2005 and the with the PQ being what it is, I am sure it is 8th generation. If you are sitting on the fence thinking about this set, at least give it a shot, take it home, and spend a few days with it. I would be amazed if you return it.
leede 2006-01-16, 01:28 PM I'm trying to decide on whether to go for the 42HPX95 or the 50HPX95. Whats the best rock bottom prices anyone has seen (or gotten) on these recently?

Hi SiGuy33
I'm interested in this TV, I read in the official xbox 360 magazine that plasma has burn in effects. Which turns me away from this TV. I'm in a cituation where I have been waiting for a Toshiba 52HMX85 for almost a month now and the local salesman at my AVU store here in Vancouver is giving me this plasma at cost. I game alot and if i'm gonna spend 3000+ dollars I don't know if it will be worth it.

How much are you getting it for?
kingstonmike 2006-02-13, 08:21 AM What's the PQ of SD material on the 42HPX95?
I'm interested in this set or the 37HL95 LCD and we still watch some SD TV.

I just picked up the 50HPX95. SD is a lot better than I expected (using a digital cable box). If I was you I would go for the plasma over the lcd. Better pic quality on the plasma hands down.

leede, I was also considering this set, the best price I got so far was $4400 + taxes. How much does it sell for in BC? Any opinions of the set so far since you've had it? PQ, black levels, colours, etc.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers!:p

Got mine for $4250 (including delivery!) + taxes. I couldn't resist at this price.
As far as I can tell you so far, this tv is the best value going in the market place. I analysed everything to death before I made my choice and I'm happy so far. Picture quality is superb but you have to adjust it from the factory settings. No big deal.
It would appear that now is the right time to make a deal on this model. I wouldn't be surprized if you could get this 50" plasma for $4000 if you pushed it.
WooHoo
I just picked up the 50HPX95 for $3298. Twas a floor model, though, but not too many hours on it.
It's gorgeous.
I like the PQ better than the LG 42PX4D that I bought last month.
Q: Anyone know why they don't want you to hook up a PC via the HDMI ports? I'm using the 15-pin RGB at the moment.
Arcanum 2006-06-06, 05:12 PM Hi:
How do I get this tv top stop bringing up the tv guide setup every time I turn it on? It is my parents tv but I have the 56HM195 DLp that seemingly has the same menu. I don't have an issue with mine, but the setup guide comes on every time the tv is turned on on the plasma and I can't seem to get it to go away - even after setting up the tv guide function.
Thanks
tonyc11 2006-07-12, 12:55 AM Press TV Guide on the remote

Use the (up/down) buttons to select " General Defaults", and then press ENTER

Use the (up/down) buttons to select Done, and then press ENTER
There you go i hope you get this!
