: Digital messages - enough already!

Anyone else getting annoyed at all the digital messages we have been receiving lately, mostly for PPV hockey. Maybe I need to take a happy pill but it is starting to bother me. Worst part is they don't use the capability to send meaningful messages. I still have not been informed officially that they have made TSNHD and CBCHD available.

I agree 100%. I've got 3 boxes and have to fire each one up (the little red light bugs me) to get rid of yet another PPV Hockey message.

This feature should be used for MESSAGES...not advertising PPV!

(FYI I did get a message about TSN a few days after the fact but not for CBC)

I think it is appropriate to send a message about a new feature like the special PPV hockey, but just ONE!

I would like to see messages about service updates more often.

Wow! Slingo56 has been reading my mind!

Just last night I got yet another PPV message on my 4 boxes. And it seems like the last couple have all been for Calgary Flames games.

Somebody should explain to Shaw how effective their digital messaging system could be if they only used it properly. Selling PPV hockey games and fights is certainly one use but I'd be less annoyed if there were actual informative messages from time to time.

I think in the years since I got my first digital box I haven't had one useful message. The information ones are usually too late or out of date and the PPV ones are useless. What a waste!

I agree with the advertisement part, but I am of the opposite opinion when it comes to digital messages.

It is underutilized and Shaw should take advantage of it more to let us know what is happening.

I know they have to pay to broadcast messages (which is why they use it for something that generates revenue like PPV hockey), but they would save a bundle in man*hours because of lighter volume of phone calls on "hot issues".

Hmmm......must be a Winnepeg thing. Haven't been getting a lot of them here in Surrey. I don't mind them too much tho. But every time I see the little red light I am hopeful of some exciting Shaw announcement. I'm disappointed every time when it's just an add for a PPV fight between two guys I've never heard of. I agree that it is an under utilized feature that could be used to inform Shaw customers.

Similar complaint is Canucks PPV channel 200 in the guide always looks like there is a PPV game on at the moment but it just some form of advertising for the channel. Find it annoying when your trying to figure when the real game is on.

Have not had the red light go on for our 2 boxes since we first got them 2 years ago. If it ever does light up I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Maybe when we get more than 4 HD channels it mite lite up.........

10 secs times 4 boxes. That's 40 secs. I could use that time to make a bid on e-Bay or get a snack or read new messages on this forum. :D

And now that we've got more HD what else is there to complain about?

Or, you can do nothing and let the Event based PPV messages delete themselves on the other boxes after the event occurs. Time required = 0 secs.

I was hoping that by turning the message notice to off
in the settings would solve this annoyance.
Nope.

I guess that setting must be for messages from Pierre T.
out their in the great beyond.

Guess what! If you go into the settings you can turn the little red light off! You will still get the messages, but the light won't bug you.

He's only in Colorado, but compared to Dallas that is the great beyond I guess :)

I emailed em twice about the red light for Messages.
I have two terminals and also have the Messages OFF. They said it was a software glitch at their end. Thatw as mid Dec. I just got another message last week (1st week of Jan.) and I cleared one, and the other cleared itself after about 3 or 4 days.

You are supposed to theoretically be able to turn the light off... I have heard some pretty strange stories now that I work for Shaw... like people thinking the red light is Shaw spying on them... oh yes. I am not kidding.

How true it is...I've seen some "interesting" emails from customers...

I wonder why they chose such an arresting colour as red. There is an old lady in my building that calls me up in a panic every time the red light turns on. She thinks something is wrong with her box. The light should have been green.
