Hello,
Just wondering if anyone thinks the early problems are enough to stop them from buying the 360?
They are apparently shipping more out this week, so would the problems be addressed and corrected?
As well, if I bought one and it didnt work...why would you send it in for repairs? Places like BB and FS have 30 day return policies dont they?
Lot of ?s.......sorry, but i am a bit confused as to whether to buy or not.

I am not buying. The reason is I want to compare it to the PS3 when it comes out. I do not game enough to justify both systems so I think the smart thing to do is wait and so which one better suits my needs. The problems that have creeped up for the 360 have just fuelled my reasoning to wait. Just my .02

I mentioned in my tread...Not the Ring of Light, that I would wait until Microsoft responds to the "mess."

But Call of Duty 2 really got into me (was never really into FPS) and I can't wait to play it...!!! I will buy it if I see it, I'm not going to look for it.

I'm no the type that can send my "toys" out for repairs knowing I can exchange/return it.

This whole "mess" as you call it is being blown out of proportion. There are no more problems with the 360 (less then 3%) then any new electronic device, and actually there are less problems with the 360 then there were with the PS2, PSP and Ipod Nano.

A co-worker of mine told me that his good friend bought one and only half of his originaly XBOX games work on the 360.

A co-worker of mine told me that his good friend bought one and only half of his originaly XBOX games work on the 360.

here is the current list of games that are BC:

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

They are adding to the list all the time as games pass certification through the xbox emulator on the 360. you don't buy a 360 to play xbox games, but if they are BC, its a bonus.

and yes the "issues" are being blown out of porportion.

I agree with Becks. I've had no issues with my 360 since I bought it on launch day. I haven't had it on 24x7 but I've had a couple of hour+ sessions with it and no issues.

Game compatibility was known at launch. I'm disappointed that Star Wars Battlefront 2 isn't compatible (yet) but I'll just keep my old xbox until it is.

Myself and 3 other coworkers lucked out and all got systems (from 3 different stores) on launch day.

None of us have had any problems.

How often do people come to a message board and say "I bought a XXX and am having no problems!".

How often do people come to a message board and say "I bought a XXX and it's broken, I'm not happy!"

Anyway, chances are you probably won't get one till next year if you haven't done any research on where to find one.

As for waiting for PS3, that is a good idea... if you don't mind to wait until this time next year before getting a new console system. The PS3 won't be on north american shores until late fall 2006.

There are enough things to keep me happy about the 360:
1) xbox live
2) launch titles (There are at least 2-3 other titles on top of my current 2 titles that I'd like to play)
3) live arcade (co-op gauntlet or SmashTV anyone?)
4) Media Center (oh man this stuff is great)
5) photo and music streaming (entertaining people at xmas is going to be really easy this year :) )

No problems here either, everything works great and it's a blast playing games in HD. Have had a number of multi hour long game sessions without a single problem.

no problems here. my xbox doesnt even really feel abnormally hot after many many hours of running either.

as for why people dont just exchange it, well...because you cant. the store you bought it from doesnt have any in stock to sell to new customers, let alone exchange systems for existing customers.

Microsoft is hosting a customer appreciation night for my company tonight and from what I heard they are giving away an 360 system.

Wish me luck!!

I agree its been blown out of proportion...
I was at EB games last night, and I chatted for a couple seconds with another customer and first thing he mentions is "all the systems that have gone bad"... I had to clarify that it was really not as bad as anyone says, and that with just a couple going bad everybody would talk about it....

That said, he and his kid will probably get one next year once the bugs are worked out.
Personally I am sticking with my xbox... cant wait for the games to get super cheap. I hate paying $60+ per game!!!

Same here! I got my Xbox at launch and had to get it fixed. I can wait for the price drop on the 360

I'm waiting. Not because I'm worried about the "stories" of failure, but because I personally have no reason to purchase a 360. I'm very happy with my current Xbox in it's *ahem* modified state and to be honest I don't think the 360 games are that much better than the late-generation xbox games. I'll be getting a new 50" HDTV in February and the plan is to wait until the PS3 comes out to get a new gaming system. If the PS3 blows the 360 out of the water, which I have a feeling it will, then I'll go that route. Otherwise, I'll pick up the 360 after the first price drop.

Yep..
Widespread reports of failures is a load of crap.
Well over 500,000 in use and less than 3% have reported issues.
This is well below the norm for 1st generation electronics.
Welcome to the internet ! It makes it soo much easier with the internet to quickly spread rumours and blow things out of proportion.

I've been running my 360 for probably 4 hours a night for the past 6 nights (yes.. It's fun and addicting !!) w/o a single problem.
I even checked the amount of heat on the unit, hard drive and power supply. Not hot at all !!

4 hours a night? Amateur!:p

Being on night shift this week I have had the opportunity to have several 8ish hour gaming sessions with no heat and no problems.

I am have to say that I am getting one :) my wife got me it for christmas and it sucks that is is just sitting there under the tree! As for how she got it, it was so easy, my boss from my work stood in line at sams club and was first to get the premium package with extra bonuses on top of that. he bought it to sell on ebay but then felt bad for doing that to someone, so he sold it to me(my wife) for the cost he got it for! No standing in the snow for me :p .

nice, wish I had a boss like that.

my boss would make me stand out in the snow to get the 360, then kick me in the groin once I got it, take the 360 then say I'm fired.
