The commercial (or industrial) model Panasonic plasmas will not be sold by any brick and mortar store such as Future Shop or Best Buy or most other electronics stores. They are usually sold by specialty retailers, mostly online, but some in-store. Do a web search. I purchased mine via complete-it.ca and was very happy with the service I received.

Hi Guys,

I'm a new member and this is my first post . I have a TH-42PHD8UK on order and have a questions about mounting . I have an oddball set-up that precludes the use of a stand or a wallmount . I'm going to build my own mounting system but need to know the type of bolt needed . I had a quick look at the back of one of the monitors in a store . It appears as if a fairly long bolt is required. Can anyone help me out with this?

You might find something at BruZZi's Panasonic Plasma FAQ (http://www.glaucobruzzi.com/plasma-faq/index.php?) site; if not, I'm sure it's been discussed over at AVS Forums. (I went to search, but it's down at the moment.)

A question for you: where did you find these in a store? ... or were you looking at the consumer model?

Good luck... Perry.

hey guys
i was just wondering where you guys found this TV
i can only find it at Panasonics Industrial section
Is there a store that sells it
Try avdeals.ca . I got a good deal in november/december 2005, shipping was fast and it is not gray market stuff so Canadian Panasonic warranty is OK. Availability might be difficult as it is a very good screen.
Good luck.

Don't have that info on the FAQ but...

The screws used for the Wallmount are:

1-inch long including the head (M8 - 1.25)

Hi PHD8UK owners,

I'm seriously considering the TH-50PHD8UK (or the 42 if budget does not permit). One thing that I haven't been able to verify is SD picture quality... would any of you care to weigh in an opinion on this? I'm switching from an SD 27" TV and unfortunately at least 50% of my TV watching will still be in SD. I know this is subjective but I'd like to hear an opinion or two...

Yikes! IMO your Picture is set way, way, too high. I have mine set around -10, and right at 0 at absolute MAX. At +20 my eyes would hurt after about 5 minutes. IMO as long as white is truly white, then that's the sweet spot for Picture/Contrast. At first it might look a little dim but if you try it for 2 weeks you might find you could never go back (like I found myself) If you've already tried it, or if you have very bright viewing conditions then by all means go with what makes you happy.... IMO that's way to bright though.

Also I have found that on DVD and HD, brightness of something more near 0 is a little better. You get more shadow detail and the black doesn't really get any lighter than at -5. Again though if you used DVE then maybe that's just your preference. I suspect some shadow detail is being crushed though.

For Just/Stretch modes, my personal preference is to use Full, but then also be sure to shrink horizontal size (can get about an inch on each side of the pic usually) and then also increase vertical size to your liking (to fit scores, etc on screen). Doing this a) makes the pic better because more data goes into making the image, and b) makes the widenning effect much less severe. For DVD you should set the borders to perfectly fit the screen (assuming your player doesn't crop) because that will be the proper aspect ratio and also DVD's are quite consistent with encoding to fill the whole resolution. The Avia pixel cropping pattern works best for this (and identifies if the player drops pixels), but if you don't have it then just be sure to put in a 1.78:1 disc and fit the pic just inside the screen.

SD can look 'ok' if it's a good clean signal. Typically clean analog is better than overcompressed digital...
