With the 9200, is there any problems or benefits to having the unit continually on or turned off when not in use. I always leave mine on. Just want to know if it could harm it.

It never actually turns off, so it doesn't matter.

The receiver does extra tasks, such as downloading the guide, when it is "off". This is the only reason I can think of for turning it off. Now, if they would only fix it so the disk drive spins down...

If you have "automatic updates" enabled, the guide will load at the time you set, even if the unit is on.

The only thing it won't do is load new firmware. You need to power it off for it to detect and load the new firmware.

I have automatic updates disabled. I don't want it automatically loading questionable firmware, not that I am sure it prevents this. The downloaded guide is almost a day old by the next evening anyway so I doubt automatic updates are much good for keeping the guide up to date.

That part of the menu is only to force a guide download at a certain time. There is no option on the 9200 or 5200 to not accept a new firmware. Even on the stb's that do have the option Bell can do it anyways.

Does anyone know if the 6100 draws any more power when on as opposed to turned off? Is it worth it for me to just leave it on all time?

Is anyone else having a problem with this feature? I disabled the automatic download of the guide and now the guide is not updating at all, even though I always turn off the receiver...

I believe it's a good idea to turn off the receiver when not in use, or else it's constantly buffering the last hour from 2 channels to the HDD. If you turn it off, you don't hear the drive heads ticking constantly anymore, except for here and there when it's updating something, but should save some wear and tear on the drive.
