: How to do timer recordings with I-Guide!(6412)

I have noticed that a lot of people think there is no option to do manual series recordings or "timer" recordings. That is because the option isn't very easy to find. So for those who don't already know:

First, select "DVR" in the menu.
Then select "set a recording".
Pick your start and end times, and also the date(start date).
Select "confirm"
Then pick the channel you want to record.
It is on this third screen that you need to select "recording options".
This is where you can set the frequency and the intervals of your recording, how many shows to record before overwriting, etc.

Hope this helps:)

I assume you're using the 6412? The record options with the 6208 is the same as the old guide.

Yes, sorry, I was talking about the 6412.

Wow, I knew that existed. No intuitive. Thanks Pooper. The only problem with this method is that when I look at Future Recordings, it doesn't say the "name" of the show....just the "time".

My 6412 is really bugging me today. A bunch of Series Recordings are all of a sudden not working. And I have always had it set to tape "all recordings". I'm glad the manual recording works. But Cogeco needs to fix this.

I also had so much trouble watching both the Leaf and Raptor game tonight. Two tuners. ha. It's hit or miss when you go back to the other tuner to see if your program is properly buffering. I thought I found a way around it by setting both programs to record, and then instead of "swapping", just accessing each program through the DVR menu. Hit or miss. I miss half the Leaf game.

It's too bad to hear about all of the problems people are having with their boxes/guides.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, because I haven't had any of the buffering or fast-forwarding problems(crossing fingers).
HD-DVR's are still a very new technology, along with our three-week-old guide.
So, I'm sure all of these problems will be fixed with time.

Would you hazzard a guess as to why there is a fast-forwarding problem with series recordings but not with a program that is recorded individually? Once when I set a series recording for "Rome" I was not able to fast forward it, but when I selected the next showing of that episode as a stand-alone it worked fine, as do all my stand-alone recordings. By the way, I was able to cancel out the series recording for "Rome".

I have noticed that a lot of people think there is no option to do manual series recordings or "timer" recordings. That is because the option isn't very easy to find.

One reason is that it isn't easy to find on your own. A second reason is that it isn't mentioned anywhere at all on the Cogeco website nor on any materials from Prevue (the supplier). The third reason is that even the Cogeco front-line CSR staff and Level 2 folks have no idea that this exists (trust me - at least 10 calls since launch made by my wife to ask questions, clarify, and double-check previous answers).

Attention Cogeco Insiders - please pass this nugget from pooper along to the web team, marketing team, and CSR team. Please.

My FF and REW probelms aren't with Series Recordings (if I'm lucky enough for the Series Recording to record). I notice the FF/REW issues when I am swapping tuners and trying to watch two shows at once. Or, when I try watch a show from the beginning while it's recording.

I believe the current software is 73.41, and firmware is 10.10. Do you think these issues will be fixed with software or firmware? I ask because I occasionally check to see if either the software or firmware have been updated. Is it safe to assume that as long as we have the same versions of software and firmware, that these issues will not go away? Or are these problems related to the provider of the program guide?

Hey, good news....I think. I figured out a way to setup Series Recordiings, which I haven't been able to do the last couple of days.

I wanted to setup Marth Stewart's Apprentice. So, I would scroll to Global (ch3) and select the show and setup a Series Recording. Then I would look at Future Recordings....nothing there.

Here's the trick. Do a Search for the show. When you find the show, look for Upcoming Times. Guess what?!?

Martha on Global (ch3) at 9pm on Wednesday doesn't show up on the list!! It's like it doesn't exist. However, the WGRZ (ch11) American channel shows up in the list. When I set the Series Recording with this version, everything sets up properly.

Y&R wasn't working for CBS-HD Detroit. But it works for CBS-HD Seattle. I kept trying to setup a Series Recording for the Detroit version. How could I be so silly!!

This also happened with Trump's Apprentice on Thursday nights (WGRZ works, Global doesn't) and Survivor (WIVB 5 works, Global doesn't).

On another note, any Series I setup BEFORE the IGuide with the old style setup (MON-FRI, once per week) are all still working fine (Prison Break, Ebert & Roeper).

Can anyone tell me how to permanently cancel a weekly recording that I set up manually?

The series that I wanted to watch is over - For the past two weeks I've cancelled the recording from my 'future recordings' menu but it keeps re-appearing each week.

I know that before the upgrade if you cancelled the recurring recording even once it cancelled all future recordings (which drove me nuts!) but now I wish I could still do that!

Any ideas or what I am doing wrong?

I'm not in front of my TV right now so I'm trying to visualize the dialogue boxes, but is there not an option to modify the recording? Make sure you make your changes in the Series Recordings, not just the ordinary recordings. I know I've cancelled Series Recordings but I just don't remember how I did this without the menu in front of me. Also, you may have to do it several times, but I know it can be done. I hope this helps.

Computers. It sometimes helps to first change the Series Recording to a one-time recording. Save your change. Then delete the one-time recording.

Go to Settings button, then DVR, then series recordings and delete from that list by selecting it.
