where do you have your CS5 mounted?
Rooftop but not at the very peak (I used the sat dish J-pole left by the previous home owner)

Thanks builder. I'm looking at getting a CS5 for my needs here in Niverville. The fact that you only getting 40% while pointed at KNRR is making me pause though.

I'm in West Winnipeg - St. James and have a Winegard MS2000 on the roof (replaced an old satellite dish). I'm receiving:

CTV
Global
CityTV
Joytv

Interestingly, I only got CTV when I plugged in the pre-amp, even though it should have a stronger signal than the others. The other three came in fine without the pre-amp.

Now to wait for CBC to get its act together! Hope they don't take the full year.

I live iin downtown Winnipeg and I am using an FM wire lying on the floor to receive OTA. Global has been strong since day one but I can't get CTV and A channel is sometimes blockie. Channel 11 is also not there. Watched Price is Right today and wow the picture is outstanding.

They only have a one month extension, as Winnipeg is a "major market". So the Jets games will be super, unless some other "transmitter issues" surface.

Here's what I was picking up in South River Heights last night and early this morning using an AVerTV Volar Hybrid Q USB plug-in and three types of antenna: the tiny UHF antenna that came with the product, a traditional rabbit-ears antenna and an old police scanner antenna with a BNC-to-F adapter.

CKY 7.1: Nothing, though the scanning process seems to pause at about that point, suggesting it detects something there. Reception possibly impaired by neighbouring high-rise to the south.

CKND 9.1/40: Excellent reception. Barely even need the antenna!

KNRR 12.1: Nothing.

CHMI 13.1: Was able to pick up a 60% signal using the rabbit-ears. It should be stronger, since I'm 19 metres above ground with a clear, unobstructed view to the west.

KMDE 25.1, plus subchannels (Prairie Public, Devils Lake, ND): This was a surprise. Had them coming in last night at a steady 90 percent from 254 kilometres away using the tiny UHF antenna included with the package. Nothing this morning, so possibly tropo. Will check again tonight.

CIIT 35.1: A bit weaker than Global, but good overall.

As more people use laptops and mobile devices to watch digital TV, the UHF stations will be the big winners. VHF is to digital TV what AM is to Top 40 radio.

Great! I wasn't aware of that. Here's some more detail:

So I got the antenna up and running. I tried using the preamp and amplifier, but the signal quality was crap. I'm in St. Boniface Winnipeg. I get CKY and CKND with no problems. JoyTV isn't bad, and CityTV has the occasional glitch. No KNRR.

I had to twist around the antenna to find a happy medium between Joy and City

Doctorzero: Lucky bugger. :) KMDE doesn't even show up in my TVfool (http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d9e74be5e589192) report. Perhaps it's because I'm more central than south. Perhaps I should put up my Gray-Hoverman and see if I can possibly get something with it.

Anyone in Saskatoon know if CBKST is still on the air?

Supposed to on the air, just with severely reduced power.

I am only getting CKND-DT in North Kildonan, Winnipeg... I have tried a KTI round powered antenna, a 5" or 6" 1/4 wave and bunny ears. I only get CKND.

Are some of the channels in the VHF band, maybe that is what I am doing wrong?

I thought I would have got all channel with the bunny ears? Will try extending the VHF antenna on the bunny ears.

I've only ever used rabbit ears, it would be much appreciated if somebody could give me some tips on how I might be able to get more digital over the air. I have a basic rca antenna 401 that I got at Walmart years ago, and it had been decent enough with analogue signals.

Currently, I only get Global (it is pristine) and JoyTV sometimes. I am wondering what I can do to get CTV and CityTV over the air.

Hey, whitefish. I'm not giving up on this CS5 here in Sanford. According to stampeder's antenna chart (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=97121), it's classified as a medium VHF only antenna. In my mind, that's perfect for me (and likely you too in Niverville?) since all the VHF channels aren't too far. So far it's living up to it's billing as all my VHF channels are very stable. And even exceeding expectations by bringing in WDAZ yesterday. It's the UHF ones that seem to the the problem. Luckily, the UHF channels are all close by so if the CS5 doesn't end up bringing them all in after CBC switches over and a little more experimenting with it's direction doesn't work then I'm planning on adding a small UHF only antenna as well (the CS5 came with a diplexer already so all I need is the UHF antenna)

I tried an RCA CANT1450B Digital Flat Amplified indoor antenna in Elmwood near Redwood Bridge.
Poor results - only CKND.

Then I tried a 45 year old antenna in the attic (from the KCND days of the early 60's). Still pointing south to Pembina. It brought in CKY (90%), CKND 99% and Joy-TV at 67%.
With some luck it will get CBC too in a month. It only missed the CITYTV station in Portage.

Cecilia, you will likely have to install an outdoor antenna to get CTV and CITY tv. The forum sponsor has some good products that can be mail ordered. I am not sure where to go in Winnipeg to get one anymore. I have picked up all my store-bought antennas cross-border so I could look before I buy. Wal Mart, Princess Auto, etc have RG-6 ready made cable in various lengths so you wouldn't have to order that and save shipping... Maybe Princess Auto has antennanas?? Maybe someone can varify...

Princess Auto indeed has a outdoor antenna made by phillips. Log periodic array for vhf, and a uhf yagi with corner reflectors mounted in front of the lpa. seems like it would be an ideal antenna for someone in Winnipeg.

9-1 was dropping out completely during the last night's rain, and lost a lot of signal on 7-1 and 35-1.

Remembered I had an OLD signal amplifier up in the garage attic (10db, 50-900mhz). Gave it a try and got great pictures again.

So in addition to building a "real" SBGH with reflector/rods, I'll probably look for a newer/better amplifier. Something with built-in distribution/splitters would be ideal.

EDIT - ADDITIONAL INFO Realized signal strength on 7-1, and 35-1 were already at 100% before adding the amp, so I took it out later to avoid the risk of damage to the tuner. Thinking I might check with LG to get their opinion and/or if my model has some sort of signal overload protection.

Attic mounted SBGH made from 14-gauge wire thumbtacked to a piece of plywood, no reflector of any sort -- 25 feet of RG6 from antenna to amp (10db, 50-900mhz), another 25 feet of RG6 to surge protector then to TV.

CityTV is finally coming in nice & clear. Last night, very pixally. We adjusted our antenna yesterday & it seemed to have helped some. Hopefully, it'll keep on being this good. Now, just to wait for CBC.

That's the one I'm using. It's able to pick up CHMI, but it's pretty spotty. I was getting next-to-nothing for a signal this morning. I'm guessing those in the west end of the city will have much better luck with that one.

I picked up an outdoor antenna at Princess Auto and Boom - 5 digital channels in Regina - all near 98% according to my old sony srxd.

Five stations? Cool.
There are only four local DTV stations in Regina. What's your fifth catch?

There are 4 HDTV and 1 SD

CTV - 1080i
Global - 1080i & 480i
CBC English - 720p
CBC French - 720p

CBC is using a satellite feed @ 720p (H264) to provide CBC National programming and the local news is in hd as well. Very good picture quality

CTV must be using Bell Tv for National programming - I can not confirm but they typically use 720p H264. Local news is not HD

Global must be using Shaw Direct for National programming - I can not confirm but they typically use 1080i MPEG2. Local news is not HD

CBC French - Same as English Service.

Has anyone in Regina ever pulled in a US signal?
