I see a lot of people like Stern. If you ask me he is a crummy talk show host. He goes on shock value, but the reality his it's a boring show. If he's not on, I'll be glad, because it frees up two channels for decent material, not crap.
My 2 cents, since everyone else is giving thiers....

Sadly it looks like Sirius Canada is giving us a lot of crummy programming.
I've been Grey since July, it was easy and I am glad I made the move.

Can you describe what happened on the Howard Stern show when you were listening that you found boring, which interview did you hear? How many shows did you listen to?

I really think there is a bigger picture here . ........ It's not really about Stern,
or if you like him or not , its about being slammed by our government (CRTC)and told what to like and how much to pay for what we are told that we want!
I think we are all sick of being regulated to death on trivial things IMHO .
Who do we call ? who do we e-mail ? ...

I agree. This ISN'T a matter of who we email or who we call.
This is about who we VOTE for. You will get your chance early 2006.
No coincidence the mess over sat tv and radio has happened under a "red" watch.

The Sirius lineup will obviously include the CBC (duh)

When they say "Radio One", will we get the local / regional R1 programming as well?? Certain programs are national such as The Current, As It Happens, etc, but will we be able to also get the regional early morning and 4-6pm programs as well?

I'd love to be able to tune in to (say) the drive home show from Vancouver or Halifax once in a while.

Anyone have any insight into this? (My question on the Sirius website has not been answered)

Likely, very likey, they will air Toronto to begin with. Whose to say they will do regional CBC channels or not, or find some way to air the varois regional programs on a channel.

It is pretty safe to say that CBC Radio 1 Toronto is the only CBC Radio 1 station Sirius wil carry. They could hardly make room for 10 Canadian stations, it is hard to imagine they will add anything else Canadian ever again, and even less likely to add regional versions of already carried station.

If that's the case, then this definitely sucks. For two reasons:

1. More Toronto-centric, centre-of-the-Universe we're soo important crap. (and I LIVE in the GTA, and
2. Why get satellite radio if I can just tune in to the local CBC FM Radio 1 transmitter?

I am starting to have doubts now. But I guess I'll wait for the official answer from the ever-silent people at Sirius Canada.

To meet their license condition they would have to change the programming by at least 50%. The license states the following:

Quote from "Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2005-247"
"Consequently, the Commission indicated that it would require licensees of such undertakings, including Sirius Canada, to distribute a minimum of eight original Canadian-produced channels from the outset of operations. An "original Canadian-produced channel" is defined as a channel produced in Canada that consists of programming not less than 50% of which is produced for and broadcast for the first time on that channel. Consequently, it will be necessary for Sirius Canada to ensure that at least 50% of the programming on the channels on which it originally proposed to distribute Radio One and La Première Chaîne qualifies as original Canadian programming."

This seems to imply that they have to somehow consider the sat side of the business. I think I would submit a complaint if Radio One was just the feed from Toronto. They could re-broadcast regional shows during the day with at least 12 hours of original sat based programming.

Time will tell

As Yoda would say
"Patience I have not for this"

Sirius Canada announces 100 Channel Lineup (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=762&Itemid=34)

Looking at the web site channels there only seems to be 61 listed on the site.

As we are only a few days from Launch day, if Dec 1 is right, I would take this to mean that Sirius has run into bandwidth problems in being able to add the Canadian Channels. Maybe a later lauch date for Canada is in the works?

I would really like to see the complete channel line up before jumping into the Canadian system as I think it is beyond there realistic expectations to expect people to just buy up to $400 worth of equipment product unseen to be ready to sign up on Dec 1st.

The business plan for this roll out in Canada seems like it was made in Hell. Start business with no customers on start up date. Don't let them know what channels are to be recieved, and still think of them as a good company to buy service from. So far I don't think so! Oh and I forgot, don't allow any US sets to be registered in Canada.

Maybe the business plan, is to see which company will survive the longest in the red and the winner will take the spoils of the competition to make one satellite service provider for the US. Then maybe Canada could pick up Sirius for a song and have its own satellite radio service which is better orientated up to 64 degrees north to provide a fully Canadian owned service under CRTC control. Its not that far from becoming a reality from the looks of it.

Which website are you looking at? Does it have the channel numbers?

I've searched www.sirius-canada.ca and I only see their original news release (mind you, I think they have added actual channel names since the last time I actually opened that particular news release).

Yeah whats up with censorship anyways??? Geesh for a country thats been quite liberal minded, quit shocking that censorship is such a big issue in this country.
And definitely dont expect the Mr Harper- Bush to change this if by god he gets into the govt in January. That's the last person that would do anything about censorship.

I don't for a minute believe that Harper and his minions will let us listen to Stern... You think the mess is bad NOW, just wait - if the Republican-lites get in, things are gonna get REALLY bad...

Why Stern is not on Sirius Canada is not necessarily linked to censorship coming from CRTC or wherever else. The biggest problem people on this forum have with CRTC is that its mandate is abused to protect the interests of Liberal government friendly business interests. I don't see how Liberals being voted out of power would make things worse.
BTW, Canadian conservatives are left on the spectrum, compared even to US Democrats. The type of FUD you are spreading is the typical Liberal weapon - vote for the devil you know, because the others MIGHT be worse. The Conservatives have voiced opinions which are pro open market, meaning less CRTC intervention. Your statement is competely off base.

Bingo!

The single reason Canadian TV and radio is so lame is "Liberal government friendly business interests". This isn't about politics, it's about corruption and machination.

I don't mean to say the Conservatives or NDP or any party would champion Stern but I do think that they would be open to change and be understanding of what Canadians wants.
