....and did it work?
I heard Videotron has to be advised so that they can activate it. Is this true? Do they charge an extra fee?
Also, what brands are recommended? I'm looking at Maxtor.
Any help with setting this up and the associated costs is greatly appreciated.
For background information, for those not familiar with the subject, here's the previous (very long) discussion on the Rogers SA8300HD...
I searched the whole thread and only got 3 hit for "Videotron". They were talking about firmware so it does not look like you will find any useful information there. Feel free to start a thread with your Videotron experiences here. ;)
I saw the 300GB Maxtor going for $125 from TD and was tempted. Plus the fact that my 8300HD is at 90%. Oh well it looks like I will have to start purging for now. :(
In the other thread you will find lots of information on cables and enclosure costs so be sure to check there first for feedback from users on what works and what does not.

Thanks for the replies.
I checked the Rogers thread and got some ideas as to what to buy. Still a little unsure of the right cables but I'll do some more homework. Mind you, I could just buy the Maxtor QuickView but that seems more expensive than putting one together.
Sad to learn that you can't choose the drive to save on. I would have liked to use the external drive as an archive and the PVR for day-to-day recordings. I have Sin City, Hellboy, & Jason vs Freddy recorded which I wanted to archive.
I'll post my experiences here.

do a search here:
...apparently it's not a problem and one guy even went as far as to open his box and replace it with a 300gb
....but do some serious homework before anything.

I bought a Vantec Nexstar3 external case that has the eSata cable.
I already had a 200gb sata drive...
After connecting the kit... the 8300Hd detected the drive now
I have 200gb available!
The case is about 50$+tax
