: Cable FM?

Hello everyone,

I just read in another thread, that someone uses a split cable connection for FM radio for their receiver....Does Rogers offer this? I ask because we had some internet problems, and when he was here replacing the cable for that, we had him test our cable to the big screen to see if we can handle HDTV, he said it was on the border, so he ras a new one. Therefore I have two runs to my receiver that I won't need (unless I go DVR) can I use one of them for this FM cable stuff?

If I can, do you just use the tuner on the receiver like I do with my normal antenna?

Thanks!!

~Andrew

Yes, the cable carries the FM as long as you can connect it to your Receiver. The cable companies have applied to the CRTC to drop this service so it may not be there much longer.

Thanks Mole!

If they do drop this service, they should replace it with FM channels on the digital STB, and while add it, add more out of town stations.

Basically stinks, I remember when a lot of Buffalo stations were carried in the Toronto area on cable fm. Now there are endless duplicates of Toronto am stations on the FM band

I only have the one main cable going into my stb. My audio receiver has a FM input. What splitter would you guys recommend that I get. I don't want to lose my signal quality to my stb. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There's a fairly long thread on this topic. See:

Any splitter that's capable of 5-1000 MHz will do the job. (as indicated at the end of the previously linked thread...)

I saw this posted over at the Shaw side...Looks like the CRTC has cleared the way for Cable ops to remove Analog cable FM.

They will still be required to carry public radio (CBC, RC) and Rogers may move some of the commercial channels over to the digital side along with the Galaxies...

I believe Rogers made an announcement just recently that it HAS decided to drop most of the FM stations very soon in accordince with the CRTC's decision to allow them to drop it, and will probaly drop the remaining ones later on. They have some sort of plan to incorporate the FM stations or similar type of broadcasts on digital cable audio channels to replace them.
