Well I just went and looked at the 56HM195 and it was beside the Toshiba 46". While the picture was very nice the 46 looked a bit better. I have to wait to see the MX series to see if there is any difference but there shouldn't be. But wait, I just looked at the manual and you can change the color settings in more detail. Now I have to see the MX series.

They have the 56MX195 on order.

So you're saying the 46" 720p looked better than the 56 1080p? Uh-oh... don't like the sound of this. Do you think the smaller screen size with it's resultant closer spaced pixels was a factor?

Toshiba told me they would not offer 56MX195 only 56HM195... so this is very encouraging. I'll feel even better once someone actually see's one here.

The store had the 62MX195 but it's for the owner and they'd have to order another one if I wanted one.

Yaamon, you could be right. This is just what the dealer told me they could do and usually this particular dealer is pretty dead on. I don't know where they're coming from but if they are coming from the far-east you know where they would dock first right?

Icemann please send some to Ontario first, yes O know where they land and then railed over to use a week later. :)

I have been dying since July for a 1080p tv for my family room. :D

You guys have been very lucky to be able to see and buy these new models.

I looked on the new Sony 60" lcos and damm the picture is so smooth and bright. Excellent Iam tempted but at that price for only a 60". :o

Viewing the older Toshiba 61" Dlp and the Hitachi Lcd I have to admit they look lik ecrap on fine detail.

Viewing the tv at Future shop they used the same HD component distribution to all HDTV and the older 720p tv after adjusting the video settings some scenes have what to me looks like noise or dot crawl compared to the Sony.

Yaamon, I'm sure there's going to be a ton of them coming via rail to Ontario from the container crane right onto the train carrier.

I am also very interested in the 60" SXRD. Even poorly setup the SXRD looked very good in FS and looked even better at the Sony Store. I really have to see the 72MX195 before I make the call on which I'll buy.

Icemann Iam with you I currnetly have a older Toshiba 61" crt rear projection tv in my family room and been waiting since July to upgrade it and almost purchased the 70" Jvc till I read about 1080p tv.

The Sony I would love to buy but, I would prefer a much larger tv than 60" to replace my current 4x3 tv.

70"+ is the size that Iam looking for.

I can only hope that the Toshiba is a great looking tv as I ordered a 72MX195. I will take a look on it and hopefully it comes sooner than Nov.

If Iam not impressed with the Toshina 72" picture I might have to bite the bullet and wait for the less features on the Jvc 70FH96 full 1080p lcos.

Jvc Canada is out to lunch as of last week they had no prices. How can that be when the US already has pricing a few weeks ago.

The local Jvc rep he thinks that the price of the 70FH96 will cost another $2000.00 more than the current one. He and Jvc must be joking as the us retail is around $5000.00us

Well I'm biased towards DLP but I'm dying to see the Sony 60" SXRD. Samsung just seems to have too many problems with the audio sync so it was down to the Toshiba 62MX195 although the HP DLP reviewed by Sound & Vision got pretty high marks.

My goal is to get a TV with excellent PQ.

My question: How did you know that 1080p input isn't accepted through HDMI on the 195 Toshiba series? Where can i get this info?

I add: What about through the PC input? is 1080p supported?

Well it was kind of confusing as I expected the dealer to me more familiar with the 195 series but in their defense they just got the TVs in the store a few days ago. When I played the DVD selecting the HDMI input the TV brought up a smaller screen in the bottom right hand corner stating it was HDMI 1 1080i. I asked how do you know it is doing 1080p and the dealer didn't know. If it was up converting to 1080p then I didn't notice the difference between 195 and HMX85 series.

Maybe mrhooie can help us out here? Could it be done automtically through the HDMI?

If you are referring to the TV upconverting to 1080p
The TV has to be outputing 1080p because that is its native resolution.
It has no choice. All incoming signals are upconverted and/or deinterlaced
until it is 1080p for output on the 1080p display.

If you are referring to the DVD upconverting to 1080p
Upconverting DVD players only upconvert to 720p or 1080i. So the DVD
player was definitely not upconverting to 1080p. You would need to send
the DVD output into an external video processor/scaler to give you 1080p
source.

Well if that's the case, then I wasn't impressed and I was set on getting the 62MX195.

daz-man... if you saw 62MX195 displaying upconverted DVD you will not have seen the TV at it's best. DVD is only 480p... some tricks can be played during upconverting but the fact remains you still only have 480 original lines. So upconvert to display on 720p set versus 1080p set may not be that different.

I think you need to see MX195 with a good quality native 1080i HD feed to see it at it's best.

Toshiba sales rep and Toshiba customer support have both confirmed to me several times via email there is no 1080p input support via HDMI. You could check the very long Toshiba 1080p thread on AVS forum for more on this.

Today only HP is claiming 1080p input via HDMI.

1080p takes significantly more bandwidth than 1080i. Today's current crop of HDMI chips are mostly not up to the job. HP said they have hand picked thier HDMI chips for this reason.

No clear answer on 1080p input via the PC input. Several people have claimed Toshiba CSR's have told them this will work. Almost as many claim the opposite. One person at AVS forum tested 1080p via PC input on his new MX195 a couple days ago and could not get it to work.

The sad thing is, as I mentioned before, the 46HM85 had better colours and looked sharper on HD channels than the 56HM195.

Yaamon, I'm interested in the 96 series JVC D-ILA sets as well because the information I've read so far states the HDMI inputs can handle 1080p but if they are going to crank the price up way past the 60" SXRD I'll take a pass. Hopefully I can see the 72MX195 some time soon so I can make up my mind on which one to get. Hopefully you'll report back that the Tosh looks great.

Icemann is there any Samsung HLR 7178 tv in BC yet.

The reason that Iam asking is that the 7178 can accept a 1920x1080p signal.

If you download the user manual on the US web site it clearly shows that it does.

So it would be a drag if the Toshiba cant accept a 1080p input signal.

I will call Samsung in Mississauga tomorrow and get some more info on this.

Since it can receiver a 1920x1080p signal via the pc input I wonder if it will accept it through the hdmi when there are supported sources.

From the last price on the Jvc 70" 720p they were selling for $8000.00 in the stores. The idiot Jvc rep was thinking that the 1080p was going to cost another $2000.00cnd he is a idiot why would Jvc raise the price so much and out of reach of most consumers.

daz-man, i was settled on getting the 56hm195, but hearing you said you were dissapointed with the picture quality made me think again...now im considering the samsung 5078...the only 1080P model less than 56" from samsung...61" is way too big for my place...anyways, care to share the price your dealer is willing to give for the 56hm195? wats there return policy in case something goes wrong or one is not satisfied? i might get the tosh from ur dealer as well if i decide to go for it...thanks a lot!

I would count out the Toshiba just yet. I am in the same boat as you. The 50" Samsung would fit perfect in my living room but the Toshiba is going to be less expensive and bigger.

They both use the exact same DLP chip so they can't be too much different. (don't jump on me for this I realize there will be some differences) I garauntee the Toshiba will look amazing.
