With the strike being settled and the Hockey season started we'll get plenty of questions hence this thread.

For general background and discussion on CBC in HD check out the CBC HD thread (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21396)

If you'd like to discuss the CBC in general, please post in the Whats ON Television forum.

So the question is "Will the HNIC broadcasts be in HDTV?"

The current answer is "don't know" but discussions elsewhere have suggested that we might see one game a week in HD.

If anything official is posted then it will be posted in this thread.

Unfortunatly for us non-Leaf fans, the reality is that those proposed 1 per week HD games on CBC will most likely feature Darcy Tucker and Tie Domi up close each week but I guess it is better than nothing. Maybe we can look forward to more playoff coverage in HD this year.

Funny how they settle the lockout less than a week before the first "Hockey Night in Canada" eh? I still believe it was a money-saving ploy by the CBC heads so they could make their budgets for the year.

If CBC does present a game in HD, what channel will it be found on? There isn't a dedicated CBC-HD channel, is there?

Vancouver, that depends on your provider. I recommend you check out the CBC HD thread for that information.

CBC-HD and SRC-HD have been up and running OTA in Toronto and Montreal for quite some time. Now that the CBC strike appears to be over the next ones will be Vancouver and then Ottawa. We've been discussing this all year in the OTA Forum. If you're stuck with satellite or cable you'd better get after your provider to start carrying those channels if they don't already. As Hugh said, there's plenty of info already here at DHC.

I can see the travelling HD setup mentioned in previous threads following the Leafs while they travel in Canada and the north eastern US with it only straying away from them when they are in the south (on Saturdays).

Just my 2 cents.

Darryl, on the CBC thread, we had learned that it would probably be one a week, though not necessarily the earlier game. This like the Canoe article is unofficial hence why I said we'd post more when it becomes official.

Lets avoid rumour and speculation as it makes for confusion on the thread.

From article: "Darling said once all the details from the lockout are settled, the plan is for all the early Hockey Night games to be shown in high definition."

Not sure how the above paraphrase from the Canadian Press article classifies as speculation, since it's coming from the horse's mouth.

Are we not allowed to post stories about what broadcasters "plan to do", even though it is not yet official?

Now I'm confused.

This thread was created to discuss actual broadcasts once they arrive not to engage in endless speculation.

What Darling said is the same as what was said in the CBC thread. i.e./ the plan is..... As we know, plans change, and as I said in the first post, we'll post the details when they move from beyond plans to official announcement.

The CBC HD thread does lots of speculating so lets the speculation discussion in that thread.

I've deleted a bunch of threads about whether the CBC loves the leafs or not since its not relevant to CBC HD broadcasting.

Feel free to discuss the CBC's love or hatred of the leafs to the News Forum or What's On Television forum.

I was slightly disheartened to read in William Houston's column today in the Globe and Mail, Darling is quoted as saying that this Saturday's game won't be in HD as they want to keep things simple. (It's on the front of the Sports page on the right.) While I wouldn't be able to watch the HD broadcast this weekend I could at least record it to see what CBC does.)

Finally found the link: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20051004/HOCKEYNIGHT04/TPSports/TopStories

"A lot of people were very angry and saying screw it," Lareau said. "They were saying: 'It's Thanksgiving. CBC locked me out. Do I want to jump through hoops to accommodate the CBC?' Others recognize it's a public-relationship issue, and it would be a good gesture."

I emphathize but I'll be the regular games will have some rough edges and I guess the extra person power for an HD broadcast might be too overwhelming.

I guess a "What May Be On Television In High Def" thread should be created.

With only a skeleton staff for tomorrow and very little preparation time, I would bet against it.

"...Hockey Night will broadcast at least 15 Maple Leafs games in high-definition television from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto this season. The network will also shoot the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup final in November in HDTV..."

Sweet, especially for us members of Leafsnation. If that link above doesn't work, use Google to search for the article by William Houston. "TSN scores big with NHL season openers".

In Ottawa we get to see two games on CBC tonight....one on the local channel and one on the HD channel. This is unusual....

i suggest you look @ the rest of your guide. (specifically 100ish-180ish)

We get like 5-6 cbc channels in ottawa, and they dont block them when their are different games on as cbc has the rights to broadcast all those games nationally.

So while cbc ottawa may cover the sens, cbc st. johns, which is 124 i believe, will have the toronto game.

CBCHD one could presume is the toronto feed.
