Have you turned the backlight feature off, so that it only comes on when you push the glow button? Also have you updated to the newest firmwawre?

Sorry you are right, for some reason each time I read your first post I kept missing that sentence. To much work is melting my brain:p

Just thought I would update my situation. Harmony sent me a new remote yesterday after I contacted them last week and informed them that my 659 was still going through batteries (both alkaline and rechargeable) in 7-10 days. Very happy with the customer support I received. Hopefully this remote will not have the same issue.

I have a Harmony 680 and found that the 10-pack of AAA batteries you can buy at IKEA for $4 lasted me nearly 2 months. I am a pretty regular user, usually several hours a day of TV time.

Considering I could run my remote for almost a year on $8 worth of batteries is a bargain...does anyone know of any reason not to use these?

I did buy a set of NiMh AA cells for about $6 from and online vendor in Vaughn, Thornhill or the like (somewhere GTAish), when I bought a second LiIon cell for my camera. These are unbranded in a plain green sleeve with the data videojet printed on it. They are 2300 mAh, and working very well, although I use them in my mouse, flashlight, and electric toothbrush, not my remote.

I bought my 676 in August and the batteries that came with it lasted almost 3 months. I put a set of Energizers in and they only lasted a week! OK, bad batteries, it happens. A new set of Duracells lasted about a month. Last week I bought a set of no-name Alkalines and 8 Duracells. Put the no-names in and got the "low battery" message . ... I guess you get what you pay for. Put in a set of Duracells and all is good . .. except last night (a week later) they're dead too. Put in the last set of Duracells and it's working again but I'm going to call Logitech and see what gives. A week on 4 batteries (no backlight except when we press the glow button) is pretty rediculous.

I'm going to have to figure out a way to plug it into the wall at this rate :)

Make sure the problem was not caused by poor contact. Check the batteries with a tester.

the DT 3740 flatscreen won't change channels by remote or manually; i've changed the batteries in the remote twice; can anybody help?

Try unplugging the TV for a while to see if it'll reset and then work. I assume by manually you mean on the TV itself. Have you tried the original remote? This thread is about the Harmony remotes.

Got just over a month with the original set of batteries that came with the remote. Not bad considering I had the backlight set to 20 sec and to come on whenever any button was pressed. The batteries were also in the remote when I bought it, which makes me think it might have been an after Christmas return. Going to get rechargeables anyway.

Cheers,

RH

I have a Harmony 659 that has started giving me a message to change my batteries. Even when I put a new brand new set of Duracellls or a fully charged set of NiMH batteries....same message. I have not had this remote even 2 years and if it is screwed I am really going to be pissed. I will try and update it but since it was working fine before I don't see what it will do. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Gord

The problem could be caused by poor battery contact due to loose fit. On both my 659 and 680, I added a larger piece of foam in the battery compartment. The battery door already comes with a tiny foam pad, but it's too small and lose its compression ability with time.

Does anybody have a Canadian phone number for Logitech where I can order a replacement battery for my H880? I called several numbers that are all in the US. In all calls, I was told to order from bestbuy.com or amazon.com which don't ship the product to Canada. And the Canadian counterpart does not sell the battery. And nobody could provide me with any info on where I can buy a replacement battery in Canada.

I love my H880, it's a wonderful remote, buy trying to find this replacement battery has been a frustrating experience so far.

"The Source" should be able to sell you a replacement battery for your 880.

They don't. Not in store, not on their web site, not in their inventory. Or so they told me.

Battery Canada lists a replacement on their website. I have not used them before, but you may want to look into them.

That one only works with an external charger. It does not work on the H880 craddle. I already tried it and sent it back. I'm looking for an official Logitech battery that will work on the craddle.
