: All About Batteries in Harmony Remotes

I am getting a replacement cradle and remote. The remote is being RMA'ed due to LCD washout from right to left, the tech guy said that they have seen this in a small % of remotes. Am also getting a cradle due to charging issues (have to move it around a little to get it to sit right) He also said they are aware of this, and it's because the little sensors on the cradle are too sensitive and the push down too far when you put the remote on it....
BUT...got an email today that the remotes are on backorder so my replacement will take longer...but my current works so its all good :)
my remote is also washed out on the right side.......my buddies is QUITE washed out almost all the way through the LCD.......i didnt know this was a problem they would replace the remote for. i guess i will have to call them again

I got my replacement today...PLUS another one and they said to keep both!!
I have one for sale in the digital home buy and sell!
I just recieved an email stating my replacement should be here in 10 days. 10 days! This problem must be more widespread than they want us to know.

Does anybody use rechargable AAA in their Harmony Remotes or is that not a good idea?
Read the following thread.
Finally received my replacement dock, and guess what? The remote still won't charge. They are sending a replacement battery now, but I guess no one reads the updated Incident reports. I told them the battery was dead. Grrrr. I'm not impressed with the time this has taken.

Perhaps resolution time in your case was not the best... but, your problem was addressed and is being resolved.
I can name you one major electronic manufacturer who was advised on August 28th by fax that a device in my set contains a software version with errors, gave them proof and the source responsible for the software and to this day, not even an answer.
Yeah, just frustrated that it has taken almost 6 weeks to resolve. The new battery arrived on Thursday, and that didn't resolve the problem, either. I called Logitech, and Aruna, the CSR, said to just bring it all back to the Mississauga office, and they would replace the whole thing. I did that today, and am back in business.
The real time consumer was the redesigned charger. Everything else was resolved in a matter of days. The cost of being one of the first buyers of the 880, I guess!

I would like to know upon finishing use of the remote, lets say at the end of the night, do we put the remote on its cradle, or should the remote be empty of its resources before being put on its cradle for charging?
Which remote are you referring to? The 880?. It would depend on the type of battery. NiCads are always better when completely cycled - discharged then recharged. The newer batteries (NiMH, Li Ion) don't care about this "memory" as much.

I've been told that Li Ion batteries like being "top up". If you have a chance to charge them you should.

At the risk of being repetitive, can i ask you how often do you recharge your harmony 880 remote control? Is it a bad thing to recharge a half full battery or not? Do these lith-ion batteries have a problem with this type of charging , or it doesnt matter if its half empty? I am just wondering if i place the remote on the cradle every evening before going to bed, am i doing any harm to the battery itself? thanks in advance guys..
There's no need to start a new thread for the same question, also you cross-posted into another thread...
Li-Ion batteries are fine with the charger in the cradle each night, as previously answered.

From Harmony's FAQ
Q: Can I place my remote in the base station whenever it is not in use?
A: Yes, you can charge the remote whenever it is not in use. This will not decrease the life of the battery and will ensure your remote is always fully powered

thanks guys, my bad.......
Looks like the replacement 880 I recieved in November is going the same route as the first one. Most of the time the remote does not go into charge mode when I place it in the cradle. When I do get the beep (after jiggling the remote a few times), it doesn't actually charge. The slide show comes on, but the charge indicator doesn't change. I expect it will die in the next day or two at this rate.
Has anyone else had a replacement 880 start to die on them, or do I just have the touch of death?

When you place your 880 on the cradle, with the thumb and index fingers, drag it slightly toward the "south" (the AC cord) and hold till the slide show starts and you see the charge taking place in the charge indicator (the green arrow). My description appears to make this a long process, but it really is 1.5 seconds at most.

Is there any way to know if you have an old cradle or new one.
I have alot of problems getting mine to start to charge but once it starts it's ok.
If I do have one of the old ones I would like to make the call now before I can't charge it at all
I spoke with Logitech today, and they will be sending out another replacement. I've tried all kinds of things to get the charger to work, but to no avail. I hope this replacement works better. My fear is that eventually Logitech is going to tell me they won't replace it and I'll be stuck with a very expensive paperweight. In the meantime, I still have my older Harmony, so it's back to the scroll-wheel.
The only thing I've noticed that was changed from the original charger and the new(er) one is that the metal contacts are a different shape and size. If you haven't seen the original, this would be of no use.
