Just got this off the eastlink site:

PLEASE NOTE:

From December 23rd - January 6th, CTV HD (610) will be temporarily suspended in order to provide coverage of The 2006 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships on TSN HD (601).

Just flipping around and noticed TSN-HD is now available on 601. CTV-HD seems to have disappeared (no channel 610) right now.
That is great news. :D I looked this morning and did not see it. Noticed 610 was not available this afternoon. I wonder if this is a temporary move just to get TSNHD for the World Juniors?

Yes this is a nice surprise. Go Canada Go....in HD.

Does anyone have any new updates on new products and services, such as why they had to dump CTVHD for TSNHD ? Are they out of space ? Will this mean we have to wait a long time for new HD channels, such as Discovery and TSN to appear full time ?

Any idea on when VOD (video on demand) will be lanched in Metro Halifax ?

I would happily give up the Sportsnet for the TSN HD if they are out of space. In the last week TSN has shown itself to be the one to have with the amount of HD programming.

Bell wants a lot of money for each of these channels (TSN & Discovery.) I could live without Discovery and a higher HD price.

While watching the World Juniors (go Canada!) on TSN HD I noticed a lot of pixilization/blockyness on fast camera pans or when changing cameras.

Am I the only one? If not, is this an issue with Eastlink, TSN, or the camera feed from the game?

It's obviously a compression issue, as the screen stabilizes within a second.

I'm getting it too. I haven't seen pixelation like that since NBC's coverage of the diving at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Goooooo Canadaaaaaa!

Oh! I get strange sound from ABC quite often. Like center speaker sound is coming from all 3 front speakers & a little from the rears. Drives me nuts. It doesn't happen on "Lost", "Boston Legal" etc... The shows with good 5.1 sound are fine, but the rest suck. Anbody else notice that?

Yeah...our ABC feed is terrible sound quality...with the exceptions that you noted. Usually, I need to switch my Yamaha rec. to analog when watching ABC.

Yep I have the same problem with TSN HD. I picked up an RF amplifier at Future shop and that didn't help at all. It must have to do with TSN or Eastlink. I noticed the same problem last night during the Sens/WSH telecast in HD.

Eastlink does not have the bandwidth. THey are in a pickle and their HD is not working that well anyway. If they charge me for it before it is fixed I am going to expressvu.

Its called Macroblocking and I guess it is inherent in fast moving HD signals. Not much you can do about it until the tv companies don't compress the picture so much. I thought there was something wrong with my new tv the first time I saw it.
There is a good explanation in the FAQ section under acronyms and definitions.

Seconded. The service is not yet worth anything over and above the box rental.

Can't say as I miss HD CTV that much. I've yet to see any HDTV content on CTV that isn't being brodcast on ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX in the same time slot.

If anything, I'd be happy if we never see HD CTV again. All that does is allow the cable company to hijack the US feed and force Canadian commercials on us.

(I swear, If I never see another damm Permacrete or McCarthy's Roofing commercial during the superbowl I'd be a happy guy)

... damm Permacrete or McCarthy's Roofing commercial

and who says advertising doesn't work.... it has been 11 months since the last superbowl.

But is it effective? Every time I see one of their commercials (regardless of the time of the year) I don't think "There's a company I'll call if I need their services", I think there's that same damm commercial they've been using for 10 years that kept me from seeing the hot Bud girls mud wrestle.

Never needed the services of either of those companies, but if I ever do that taste of bile I get when I see one of their commercials will probably return. And then I call their competition.

I agree, but they've got CTVHD already back on the guide and I assume ready to go back online as soon as the gold medal game is over. A gold medal game without any sound, I might add. Good job TSNHD... *good grief*

Yes the sound issue right now is very disappointing butr has been resolved.

CTV HD was dropped because they got a deal done late for TSN HD and their techs weren't going to be around to add the extra HD channel due to the holidays so they just ditched ctv since most of its HD content is on the US networks anyway.

Yeah OK, but will TSN be shut off & CTV be turned on after this game is over?

Hell yeah! 2-0
