Hi,
Have a 57" HDX82 Toshiba projection TV, 2 1/2 years old. A couple of months ago, started to see a waviness appear near the top of the screen when turning on the TV. It slowing has crept downward till finally the whole screen now does this when turning on the TV. It only does this for a few minutes as gradually the waviness gets better until its gone. It shows when turning on the TV after its been shut off for a while.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this and what the problem turned out to be?

I also called a couple of Toshiba authorized dealers in Edmonton. Japan Video said that they would prefer if I bring the TV in as they have all their diagnostic equipment there and its difficult to diagnose on a home visit. Electronic Analyst said that in most cases they can diagnose the problem based on a home visit and can repair at my home.

I'm wondering what other Toshiba projection TV owners have experienced when they have had to have service. Was the home visit enough or did they have to bring the TV in?

Thanks for any help.

I found a link in the digital home site that exactly shows my problem.

I ended up calling another company than the ones I mentioned. When I called they said that they could come out and diagnose the problem. If they couldn't determine the problem, they mentioned that they could open up my 57HDX82 and just take out what they needed and take back to the shop. They were the 1st authorized dealer in Edmonton to say that the whole TV would not need to be brought back to the shop if they could not diagnose at first glance.

They diasgnosed the problem as being a bad Hyper_converter board. The tech mentioned that its not a common problem but it does happen with toshibas. It won't be in until next week but in the mean time, we still can use our TV. It was a 75$ home visit. The board cost is $230.00 and with labour the totol cost when they come out again will be $300.00. This is inline with what was mentioned in the forementioned thread.

I'll post what happens after the board is installed. I will also give credit to the company that is doing this as I very much appreciate how this has been handled.

First T.V. Sales and Service here in Edmonton brought the hyber-converter board over on Tuesday afternoon and installed it. T.V is back to normal.
The board was $230 + labour +gst for a total of $303.00
Very appreciative of how quickly it was diagnosed and fixed and also pleased that we didn't have to go without our T.V. for any length of time.

I have the same issue with my 50HDX82.
What I'm wondering is, what effect will the replacement of this board have on the calibration of the set? I know I would likely have to redo the convergence but what about grey-scale?
Since the problem goes away after a short period of time (for now) I'm thinking it might be best to wait a bit before having to fork out $300 for the board and another $400 for the cal.
