I bought the 50VS810 about two weeks ago and I love the TV with the exception of the protective screen which collects to much ambient light for my liking. I have noticed that the "protective" glass was dropped this year on the 50VG825 model. From what I can tell, other than the glass there are only minor changes.

My question for everyone is: Does the "protective" glass on the 50VS810 actually protect the screen or is a person with young toddlers just as well off with a normal screen without the "protective" glass? I am considering returning the TV and replacing it with the 50VG825 if there are really no differences. Any thoughts? Any other majour changes between the models?

I would also like to hear any comments and comparisons with the 50V525. I am trying to decide between the Hitachi 50V525, 50VS810, Tosh 52HM85, 52HMX85, and Sony 50A10.

Spoke to a Hitachi rep a couple of weeks ago and he claims the "protective" cover is also designed to help with contrast.

I have the 50VS810 and glare is not an issue due to the lighting in my room.

I could, however, see it being an issue in a bright room.

WHose got the VG series? Is it available in Canada? Ussually visions sells the models that FS doesnt have but it seems they are both just carrying the V (until they are sold out) and the V525 and the VS.

I spoke with a salesman at Visions last week and the VG series is in their system. It was also advertised in their flyer last week. They are expecting to be getting some in within the next two weeks.

I also checked at A&B Sound. They only have the VF series in their system (none in store).

Visions has the VG in stock. Looked good, but tough to really judge since the store in Calgary was running approx 8 sets of the same signal.

I'm kind of looking at the 55", but not sure if I should be going with DLP and am waiting for Toshiba 56HM195 before I make a choice. I read a review in sound and vision that said DLP is better than LCD for watching a lot of fast moving sports like hockey or football.

RNA,

I received an email from Hitachi advising that these sets are currently available to dealers. Hope this helps

Just saw the 55VG825 in Visions electronics in Calgary and it looks really nice. They had 40 sets running off the same HD signal, but it looked just as bright as any of the DLP sets and really smooth pic.

The only thing was I noticed the screen door effect on a concert picture where the lighting was dim and there seemed to be some smoke in the air of the concert they were playing. I have a Hitachi CRT and love it and this looks like a Great set, but for the same kind of $ you can get DLP and I'm just not a fan of the screen door look.

Thought I would throw another iron in the fire.
I was at Future Shop today and they just got a 50VF820 in stock for display. It was still boxed up but I was told it was the same TV as the 50VG model. I am starting to wonder if the VG is only for boutique stores and the VF for the big box stores. There are suttle differences but mostly the VG has more inputs(as far as I can tell)

Anyone have this set or know something about it?

Thanks,

Milks

I saw the VF at a FS this week end. Looked nice, but the PQ wasnt as nice as the Sony (A20) or the Toshiba DLP. Screen door effect was very apparent.

What Toshiba DLP were you comparing to?? Was it the Black 62HMX85, or do they have the 1080P models in yet?

I saw both the Toshiba HM and HMX DLPs that day. Cant remember which I was talking about. It wasnt the new 1080p model though.

Interesting...

I bought the Panasonic 50" DLP in Feb/2005 and returned it due to fan noise.

In Sep/2005, I bought the 50VS810 because of the price and, what appeared to be, a good picture. I returned this because the screen had yellow tint in the bottom corner. The next 50VS810 was returned because of green tint/blotches. After much discussion with 2001 Audio Video, I bought the 50VG825. This model suffers from excessive fan noise, just like the Panasonic.

In conclusion, if you don't mind the fan noise, this TV is fine. I also do not need the TV Guide, but "c'est la vie."

P.S. Does anyone notice any ghosting on the screen when changing channels? It does not affect the picture but is irritating. Thanks.

just wanted to ask about screen door effect. Would it be the vertical lines every 1 cm or so ? I bought 50v525 and see these lines a lot, almost on everything that is white/light is colour. I still have 4 days to return it and I think that I might just do that because the lines bother me a lot.

Are your Vertical lines moving down like a refresh on a monitor?

I had this issue with my 50v525, it eneded up being a bad HDMI cable.
I changed to component, and no more issue.
