Bought one of these from FS. All I can say is "Awesome". Excellent in every way. I'm using BEV HDTV and loving it. Grab one while they are available.

At least $1000 Can$ below anyone else and a 2 year warranty.

iceguy666 - What video settings are you using for normal HD?

Also, were you able to find a remote code so that you could control the LG tv with your Express Vu remote?

16:9 and no to the 2nd question. I now know what peeps are talking about when they refer to BEV HDTV. Looks great on about 3 stations. Most others are SD and have to be expanded. The TV is still great but BEV has gone down a notch or 2 for their HDTV service.

In lieu of the remote code, I ordered a Harmony 880 remote from NCIX - ansxiously waiting it's arrival.

Watching Lost last night in HDTV and I noticed some weird display behaviour. I am not sure if this is referred to as "pixelation", but some box shadows appeared in some situations. I think a guy was wearing an orange shirt and at some points of shadow, darker boxes would appear. Not too sure how to describe it - does anybody know what I am talking about?

Just purchased one of these TVs. It's amazing!! Haven't had the chance to hook up HDTV yet, but will be getting a box soon.

Can anyone tell me what the best way to calibrate the picture's settings? Is there a perfect setting for bright/contrast/color etc. that someone could recommend?

Thanks!

"Best" would probably be to hook up a computer and use a monitor calibration utility. You can also buy monitor calibration pucks and associated software that will do a good job but are expensive.

But alternatively you can use a calibration DVD such as DVE or Avia. These will come with a blue filter that you can use to set brightness, tint, and contrast for a pretty good do it yourself picture.

My experience with these sets is to set it on low power mode immediately. The full power is far brighter than anyone should ever need, short of using the TV on a sunny beach outdoors I guess. Even on low power & brightness you'll find these modern plasmas too bright according to the calibration methods anyway.

I agree with Neild regarding the low power setting. You will bearly notice the difference and it is supposed to prolong the life of the plasma tube.

On the set-up/calibration, I found the factory default (except for the contrast that was set at 90% ... re-set to 50) looked pretty darn good. Don't really know how much it could be improved. :p

Looking for more reviews/opinions as there are a few DU50PX10's around at or less than $3999. Is the PQ as good as the Panasonics? Any other issues/comments would really be helpful as I'm down to the wire in terms of this one or waiting for see what happens over the next year or so.

Thanks

I just bought this TV and it looks great. It's my first plasma TV so I still have some questions. During dark scene when watching digital Videotron (not HD) on some channels you can see pixels in the dark region of the image, is that normal? Why can't you swap the PIP between the RGB image with the video 1?

Thanks

Got the tv few weeks back for cheap, as it was a floor model, worried about lots of things, ie burn in, life span, etc., but price and size was just too good. Got it home, looked great, looked even better once I got HD, mind you it was free from Rogers for 10 or 12 months, nice. If I had the money I would probably go with the Panasonic, but it's just too expensive. So far no problems with the LG. In the store the Panasonic looked better in terms of colour saturation, but not sure if it would justify such a substantial price increase. Also I don't think this model is still available or not. Also no HDMI input but I tried the DVI input, which is suppose to be compareable to the HDMI and I actually liked the component input better. Best of luck in your choice.

Does anyone know if this TV's DVI port is HDCP compatible?

Thanks!

A quick search on the web (by typing in LG DU-50PX10) has the DVI listed as HDCP. The best check is to download the operating manual from the manufacturer's website and look at the specs in the back.

Thanks for the reply 57

I see that a store online lists this tv as HDCP compatible. However I checked my manual and I can't find a page with detail specs on anything :(
