On Friday night, the CTV-HE sim-subbed feed had numerous freezes on both my 6100 and 6000 during Law & Order.

I've noticed also that exclusively on CTV-HD feeds east and west that there is also a lack of fluid motion in most scenes, looking like the equivalent of a frame being dropped every so often. This is only in HD material, as the commercials in SD don't exhibit this problem.

It's really annoying to have to watch this, so I usually end up having to change the channel.

This had been a regular occurence a few months ago, but for a while it looked like it was cleared up. I thought originally that it may have had something to do with sun spots but as it was exclusive to CTV, it would seem to be just their inability of re-broadcasting a competent signal.

It seems as if the 6100 can't tolerate the switching of signals with the sim-sub. It just seems to confuse it. I think it is up to BEV to make this work as seemlessly as possible.

I don't think that the sketchy video is a sim-sub issue per se. I find that it happens on both the east and west HD CTV feeds on their native channels, not just when they're subbing in a CDN feed.

But I agree that until CTV can get their act together to provide an acceptable signal that they should leave the two seperate.

I was getting constant freezes every 10-15 minutes with audio dropping watching DOOM last night (Oct 3) on the HD Movie Network (840). :(

I have noticed that CTV HD is the worse for freezing. But other channels have this issue as well.

Just an update, the freezing, stuttering picture continues although my receiver was updated at some point and the unit's revision number is now DNASP: 02 REV2C7. The firmware is still E559 although there seems to be version E560 out as well. I leave my receiver shut off every night but no firmware update. Should I call BEV to force an update?

Anyone still having the freezing issue? This post seems quiet all of a sudden. I still am, and it gets annoying at times. Has anyone contacted Expressvu about this lately? I would like to but I just don't want to stay on the phone for 30 min to find out nothing new.

I think we have gotten used to the poor performance of these receivers hence not much complaining. I had worked with a BEV manager earlier this year on trying to pinpoint this problem and the conclusion was that my receiver was at fault. Since I bought my receiver and it is out of warranty there isn't much I can do. I was hoping the firmware upgrade would fix the issue but even that hasn't happened and I don't know of a way to force the upgrade.

I am planning to buy my 1st HD receiver, possibly 6100, but I'm worried about this freezing thingy which according to discussions in this forum, happens to both 6100 and 9200! Are all HD channels freezing with 6100's? Coz i went to Costco and watch their HD feed there (they use BEV too), and did not see any freezing for 20 min. The channel is the Discovery. Is the freezing happens everytime? Did anybody ever watched any HD show without freezing? Is the freezing happens in a split second only? Thanks!

I have never seen it on Discovery personally. I usually notice it during primetime shows, and I also think as well it happens when ctv cuts in over the original broadcasting station. I think the term is called sim sub? Last night I watched Cold Case which was not controlled be ctv and it was fine. It is not constant, but it does become a distraction sometimes. No audio loss, just a 1 second picture freeze. It may happen once during an hour show, or maybe 10 times.

I have been having the same issue as everyone else but after numerous emails and numerous frustrating calls to Bell, they finally admitted that the receiver was defective and there seems to be an issue with the hardware.

To correct the issue they have sent me a "new" 6100 receiver which I hooked up today to replace the unit I purchased back in August. I will give it a few days and report back on the freezing issue.

I told Bell if I even see the screen flicker on the HD channels I am going after them and I suggest eveyone else that is having this issue do the same.

The trick with Bell is to be very persistent.

No need to wait a few days... Freezing occured last night while watching the movie channels. I was briefly watching the movie Big and the screen froze 3 times in a span of 2 minutes with the new receiver. BUT, while watching the tail end of one of the CSI shows on CTVHD there was no freezing at all. This may have been luck but CTVHD tends to be one of the worst for this issue. So, as others have mentioned the issue may be beyond the receiver or with the software.

Does anyone know if the CRTC has any involvement with quality of delivered products such as Bell's HD? I know that when Bell came out with their Dolby 5.1 receivers back in the 90's the audio was not matching up with the picture and this promted a complaint to the CRTC which finally resulted in Bell giving those affected customers a credit.

Time to call Bell again and complain!

The freezing problem is still happening. I just got my receiver replace and the new receiver is also freezing 5 to 10 times per hour. This all started 3 months ago. Before that, no problem to report...I am also experiencing problem with poor quality blacks...it's not tv. It's hapenning with both TV sets (Rear projection and Plasma)

Once my contract is over, I am gone..

AAAIIEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First I fall victim to the Toshiba DLP lamp kerfuffle then I fall victim to the dreaded BEV 6100 freeze frame.

I, after a misery of a time with BEV over installation charges (another story), have found that I get frame freeze on HD programming. I got seven different explanations and remedies on seven different phone calls to BEV about the issue.

I especially liked the power bar explanation. Power bars wear out causing the voltage to become too weak to keep the high performance receiver properly fueled hence the freezing. BULL&*%^,

I made them send me a new (refurbished) unit. It is worse. I will call again tomorrow. I think I have spent three working days in total on the phone to try and get a straight answer.

I am a fool. I bought mine. I guess I will donate it to the gun club for a target.

I will complain to the CRTC.

Tonight for a change we were watching our other HD set with the 6100 on it, viewing Criminal Minds. The picture started out ok on CBS-HE then about 2 mins into the show, the CTV-E HD simsub kicks in.

I'm now getting the freeze up about every 5 or 10 mins as others have noted above, plus the picture 'jitter' occurs everytime there's a pan up/down or sideways on the frame. This only happens on CTV HD (both East and West), and on both my 6000 and 6100.

Last night on L&O:SVU I didn't notice any of these problems on the CTV-HE feed for the first time in a long time but it appears this 'shakey/stuttering' motion issue has returned.

I'll be checking with the BEV techies to see if they can resolve it before I give more consideration to changing providers.

Wish me luck.

I'm plugged directly into the wall and get this happening also, FWIW

Well, I noticed that in the past week my receiver has updated it's firmware to E562 from E559. I was watching HD programming and noticed that picture freezing was significantly less than I had remembered. I checked the firmware and yup it's updated. So last night I watched CTV simsub of Desperate Houswives and the stuttering was significantly reduced (although at the show start there was a wierd freeze frame by freeze frame for about 30 seconds or so). Don't get me wrong, there were still instances, though much less, of freezing but for a much shorter duration (half a second at most). I watched the Indianapolis football game afterwards and there was barely an instance of freezing. So I have to give a positive vote for this new firmware release due to the improvement in picture.

I got a 6100 receiver a couple of weeks ago. HD looks great but I noticed the occassionally freezing. This seems to happen mostly with CTV HD. Is it just me or is the CTV HD feed crap?

CTV HD and simsub (shows on American channels but subbed with the CTV feed) experience the majority of freezing although it does happen on other channels at times. The new firmware has helped though but I will need to monitor this for awhile for any service degradation.
