What is the current firmware for the 6100? Was there a change that stopped the freezing? I'll have to make a point of watching it today and see if I notice anything.

I haven't had a freezing issue for some time now. I hope it bloody well stays that way too!

I find picture freeze still happens but very short in duration. The problem I am seeing now is the increasing compression artifacts. Any solid color on my screen becomes blotchy. The picture looks softer. I'm not happy with BEV stuffing more HD channels on existing transponders. Picture quality IS suffering IMO.

CompressVU - 3 HDs per TP.

I must admit that I’ve seen that the picture quality has degraded both on SD and HD. I guess that is the price for no freezing. Not sure what is worse…. I hope Mpeg4 helps things out in the future, but likely they will load up the TP’s past the max again and we will be right back to where we started…

I wish I lived in an area where there was HD OTA, I would dump my receiver in a heart beat!

My 6100 completes downloading the guide info once every 10 times... it freezes right before the end, maybe 8-10% left.

As I rent my equipment and the 2 year term ends at the end of November the easiest and best solution for me is to find another provider. My last headache with BEV will be dealing with their retention department when I call to cancel

You would have to talk to the retention departement to cancel. You call a month before the contract and they put an open work order for 30 days later

I know that a lot of people in here are complaining of compression artifacts, but I do not experience a lot of this. I have noticed that the PQ is not as good as it was a few months ago.

Is it possible that this problem is also related to the type of TV (lcd/plasma/dlp)? 720P vs 1080i? What type of TV do you have? What setting do you have for the output of the receiver? My 9200 is on a Samsung DLP and my receiver is set at 720P. My 6100 is on a Proview TV and the output is set at 720P.

Just a thought.

Hey Joeskie, I am experiencing the same thing..... I have the 6100 in my bedroom and the wife told me it was "dowloading the guide" everytime she would change channels.
WTF...Can BEV ever get it right or what!!!
This is so frustrating and I apologize for the rant but if its not one thing its another.

As for you guys concerned with the PQ, it has nothing to do with your sets... and everything to do with changing 1080i signals to 720P.
All BEV HD channels are being converted to 720P with the exception of CH # 802 CBC, 842 & 843 Super channels and one or two more channels, I can't recall the exact Ch #( and you can tell the difference, for these channels, for the most part, have a great picture). OH... and yes, 3 HDs per Transponder doesn't exactly help things.
See this thread from a while back called "Enough compression already"

Our 6100 has been acting up the last couple of days and this morning would not come on. Held the power button for a couple of minutes....etc.....and it started the download programing and locking onto the signal....the usual sort of stuff. Now it is fine.
Disagree with those who say its because of compression issues......do not think so but really is a result of ECM activities over the past week or so. The "usual suspects" are quiet but a number have been zapped.

My 6000 kept scrunching the picture up into the left corner. I correlated it with a friend who has a FTA receiver. It was from ECM's. Bell service techs denied it and even denied ECM's. I sold it to a pirate and bought a 6141. It has froze 2X and required unplugging to get it to work again Once my 9200 also got screwed up. I had a picture but audio from a talk station.- sametime as the 6142 locked up. It was ok after rebooting.
The 6000 couldn't hold a guide for more than 1 hour because of the ECM's.
I think that Bell should be responsible for the units replacement but they don't think so.
I definately am not a customer that can recomend their service.
