Angelfish 2007-06-05, 03:13 PM Going forward, could anybody with freezing on their 6100 list the channel/show/time they saw it on.
We've narrowed this down to content and not the set-top box and could use any feedback since it can be a randomly occuring problem.
thanks so much.

I have experienced freezing issues on many occasions. As recently as last nites NHL SCF game on NBC HD. Most of the frezzing occurs when I'm watching a program in HD. My reciever is connected to my TV via component connections and not DVI. I've had other issues with audio (see HTIB forum for the issues I've had) I have narrowed it down to flaky RCA audio output from the 6100. THis box has ISSUES.
murzik 2007-06-05, 06:17 PM Looks like two or even 3 separate problems. Some people should just realign their dishes. Some freezings occur on station level, not on vu headend. And some definitely firmware issues with 61 and 92 boxes.
Mozza 2007-06-06, 10:08 AM I do not get freezing on my 6100 very often, if at all. It seems the only channel I get it with is the FOX feeds, and maybe only once every 30 minutes for a second or two. Certainly not something I'd cancel my contract over, seeing as *C customers lose their audio every 5 or 6 minutes.

No to me it isn't an issue of cancelling my contract. But will this issue be resolved? When was the last time new software was downloaded to the 6100?
Can't say HD is a new technology anymore. I am quite interested to see if some of these issues (frezzing) get fixed. I'm interested in moving on to Rogers if this freezing doesn't get fixed, but like I said above no hurry on my part. I would just like to know if Bell is going to acknowledge this problem and what are they going to do to fix it?
cm_soo 2007-06-06, 02:35 PM Disc alignment, type of cable, bla bla bla.
I've has a static system for a couple of years and I have noticed the freezing go from nothing to severe and all ranges in between. The issue is Bell's and up to them to figure out.
As for 250 customers being the only to complain, thats pretty disingenuous. I'm sure alot more people have the problem and 1) aren't even savvy enough to notice, 2) aren't aware of this forum 3) just live with it.
My understanding is that all other carriers have had similar problems, can't offer an opinion as to whether Bell is better or worse than others.
My own freezing is light at this time.
Sure makes me want to run out and spend another $400.00 for a 1st generation mpeg 4 receiver (not).
jumpy27 2007-06-09, 06:31 PM slightly o/t but since you mentioned it..
I've been watching the golf on NBC-E HD over the last couple of weeks and I've noticed that it's only partially in HD. There are some camera shots that are quite fuzzy and the more vibrant colours ( eg the reds in some shirts) have a 'ring' to them or almost 'ghost' around the players. But when it cuts to another camera for a close up, the res is much better. I wonder if this is similar to what we experienced during the last Olympics where we were mostly getting a cropped SD-ish signal to make it look like 16:9.
On the other golf tourneys on ABC-E HD (I think) there was none of this switching back and forth, the images were all consistently in HD.
And yes, I'll make a brief posting here on my post-ditching experiences after I've made the switch. I'm paid up on EVU until Mar 29th, so watch for something in early April.
NBC is just too cheap to have all HD cameras.
audiofool 2007-06-09, 07:52 PM yep, but CBS appears to know how to get the job done, based on today's broadcast.
Bman72s 2007-06-18, 10:38 PM I see a new software has been downloaded to my 6100-E564.
I have had my worst night of freezing in a long time. Global,CBSE, CTVE. Anyone else noticed it? Hope this isn't a sign of things to come. It had become fairly reliable recently.
Boavista 2007-06-20, 10:13 PM yea mine was fine but since new update im seeing Large ammount of freezing now. not happy at all !!
Bman72s 2007-06-26, 08:38 AM I have a 6100 with all the associated freezing problems detailed in another thread. For the last several months it has performed fairly well. About a week ago I received update 564. Now CBSE-HD freezes regularly. The other night even the commercials froze. Audio continues but video starts and stops with anywhere from 1 to 10 second pauses. This had never happened before on commercials. I turned the unit off and back on and it seemed to correct itself. I have also totally rebooted the unit. Everything that a BEV CSR would have you try. It was back doing it last night. It seems mostly to be on this station although I have never been totally freeze free on any station in the past. Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas of how to correct it or is it just another one of BEV's wonderful quirks?
Zero G 2007-06-26, 09:40 AM I'm getting more freezing than ever. Not just short ones, but some as long as 10 to 15 seconds. This is really starting to piss me off big time!
Bman72s 2007-07-04, 06:50 PM OK so the freezing issue seems to have sorted itself out again. Thats the good news. The bad news is I walked in on my wife watching House on Global HD last night. It had to be the worse excuse for HD I have seen yet. Barely better than sd. In fact as far as I am concerned the only difference is that it was in widescreen. My question is with ExpressVu's well known compression issues is it possible that increasing the compression has decreased the freezing and this is how they have dealt with the problem? The reason I ask is I never have had an instance of freezing while watching sd on my 6100. It is purely an HD problem. Other threads have discussed an increase in compression is a way for ExpressVu to add HD channels to their existing structure. If this is true and this is the result it will be time to switch providers.
cm_soo 2007-07-05, 01:28 PM My own freezing has gotten better....AGAIN.
I don't watch much of the main networks though, mostly I'm watching Oasis, Rush, HDnet and discovery with occasional main network channels.
Angelfish 2007-07-06, 09:48 PM FYI my 6100 now has software version E564 and I notice that its frezzing slightly more frequently than before
Bman72s 2007-07-23, 08:32 AM Watched the entire British Open yesterday on ABCHE without a single freeze. Walked in on my Wife watching a Global simulcast last night and saw 6 freezes in about 10 minutes. This has to be a simulcast issue. There must be something, in this situation, that goes on to trigger the freezing in the 6100. As far as I can tell this does not happen with the 9200. Nor does it appear to be an issue with Rogers. With all the turmoil at BCE our chances of a solution are just about nil I would guess.
willise 2007-09-06, 03:12 PM I canceled my HD programming a few months ago due to the 6100 freezing issue and Bell's refusal to do anything about it. I was just curious if there has been any progress on this issue? With winter just around the corner, it would be nice to have HD again, but I refuse to pay for substandard quality.. It's bad enough we have to pay extra for HD programming, let alone the constant freezing that was experienced with this receiver.
Thanks!!
Mozza 2007-09-06, 03:16 PM Freezing has become almost a non-issue for me, except on the FOX HD stations.
Bman72s 2007-09-07, 08:38 AM As Mozza says freezing has greatly reduced. However for me it is not totally gone. Global and CBSHE are the worst but all channels exhibit it at some time or another. Just enough to realize it isn't totally gone. Much better than a year ago but by no means perfect. What I have noticed is a degradation in picture quality. I wonder if BEV's compression has "fixed" the freezing at the expense of picture quality. In any event other than the freezing issue if you were happy with BEV before I would say you would be happy with the way the freezing issue stands now. How long it stays that way plus the lack of new HD channels is another whole question of course.
his has to be a simulcast issue. There must be something, in this situation, that goes on to trigger the freezing in the 6100. As far as I can tell this does not happen with the 9200.
The 9200 had huge issues with the simsubbing, it would almost always skip and stutter during the transission, and occasionally jump to the end of the event, or skip a large section, when watching a recorded event. It hasn't been much of an issue over the summer, as the simsubbing seems to have stopped, but I imagine it'll be back once the 'new' TV season fires up.
Different firmwares seem to make the receivers behave differently, but the problems all seem to be connected in some way to the compression/decompression of the signal. I've also seen this on some SD broadcasts, usually during a hockey game or live sports event where there is fast a frequent movement--a sure sign that it's got to do with compression and the machine's ability to interpret/decompress the signal.
flyfishNS 2007-09-09, 05:10 PM Hi,
I was watching CBS-HD for the Patriots game just finished and my 6000 froze during the first half about every 3 minutes for several (5 to 10) seconds - same symptoms being described as per the 6100. I did not check my 6100 to see if it was doing is too, but it was really annoying, and is not something I'd seen too often on the 6000 recently.
