I have recently sent a question regarding two of the OTA stations I receive in my area to the CRTC. Now while I was impressed with the speedy response to my question I was also very angry, (not the word I was thinking of) when I actually opened the email and found that the answer I received was a copy and paste standard answer that had almost nothing to do with the question I asked.

I have just finished with my complaint back to them not very nice but kept language clean.

Has anyone had any success actually getting any human and personal response from the CRTC?

Yes, I have complained to CRTC regarding Bell service. They had acted, and I got responses from Bell. I actually find CRTC very helpful to the little consumer, protecting me from the Bell giant.
I think in my case, what CRTC did was forward my complaint to Bell, and required Bell to act (within a certain time frame) and provide the satisfaction solution back to CRTC.

I hate that the CRTC have denied Shaw Communications request to add National Geographic Wild to the lists of eligible satellite services for distribution in Canada.
There are a number of programs I would like to see on my TV from this. However they allow all the reality programs to saturate the channels. I JUST DON'T GET IT.....:(

Wow, a system controlled and regulated by itself , to insure it's future control of an isolated market. We've been steeped in canadiana and lead to believe,(all too willingly),in our piety as preservers of our culture. So much that, we've forgotten about free speech and access to "all" information world wide, is and always will define a free state! Oh Canada, bells home and cables land.....

The CRTC is like the USSR for Television just like the Red Dawn Movie

but Instead of what happened in the movie, the CRTC want to ban us from access American License cable channels and instead watch Canadian License Cat. 2 American Channels where programming is watched to make sure that it meet Canadian Standand.

Yes, I remember this too. I was looking forward to the implementation, however, I have just ditched my Rogers Cable for Over the Air and not going through any withdrawl symptoms at all!

The CRTC's protectionism is not about content, or we would not be able to see American content, and if it were about quality of Canadianc content, what actualy airs might not suck.

The protectionism that exists is there only to protect the corporate oligarcs at Rogers, Bell, Shaw, Corus, and other media companies..

I'm probably a little slow on the take as this may have been happening for a while, but why are sports channels like The Score and Sportsnet allowed to show Eastbound & Down or sports movies? Isn't their license for 24 hours of sports?

17. The Commission further imposes the following conditions of licence:

No more than 10% of the licensee’s quarterly broadcast schedule shall be drawn from category 7.

Their license allows them to air movies ... but is limited to 10% of air time.

I just posted this article on my UBB Deception Web site, and I thought it would be of great interest for all of you here.

http://theubbdeception.ca/2011/08/crtc-taxes-and-the-35/

To summarize, we might get screwed big time if the CRTC approves this proposed tax scheme, which would only benefit the Secret Society of the "35".

The CRTC could just put an across the board tax on the internet providers. They do it with your blank CD's and blank DVD's there is nothing stopping them from taxing the internet at some point. I will say I am totally opposed to this but I think that eventually that is the easiest way to get more money out of the consumer for Cancon.

Does anyone else find it incredible that the CRTC Glossary uses sources like:

Wikipedia(English and French)

Webopedia

Walt's Internet Glossary, that has a nice wizard head on its main page

I don't find it incredible - what's wrong with using Wikipedia as a source. It has been shown to be as accurate as the Encyclopaedia Britannica.

I wrote into the CRTC about a simsub complaint recently, stating to them how I recorded the show from my cable receiver to the computer, and this is what they responded with:

"however, CRTC doesn’t regulate the content on Internet."

There was no mention of me whatsoever about watching anything online!!!

And these are the people that are attempting to regulate technology as it moves ahead at light-speed? Seriously?

Agreed. Some people are quick to dismiss Wikipedia, but it really is a fantastic resource. You of course shouldn't believe everything you read online, regardless of the source.

But if you use your brain, and learn what types of topics are likely to be most accurate, and check the sources within Wikipedia (generally listed at the bottom of the article), it can be invaluable. You just need to be smart when researching, which again goes for any source.

My issue is with channels like Mtime and Action which are considered action/adventure yet half the time dont show movies or programming related to that. Its a ripoff that these are classified as movie channels when they maybe show 2 movies a day.

Movietime I like, although it is repetitive, and light on actual movie.
Action, similarly.

If the CRTC has to look at anything, it needs to by History, to not verge too far from its intended genre format, and the greater practice of recycling content for other channels.

RE: "To summarize, we might get screwed big time if the CRTC approves this proposed tax scheme"

Yeah an indirect way to tax the public...

New/higher tax on corporations - they just pass it on to the subscribers
