dcomp11 2005-09-28, 04:53 PM Bones was not HD on Fox Buffalo either. They did fix it nicely for House but I am not sure where they got the feed [no station logo].
Fox does not put a network logo on it's HD feed. The logos you see and spliced in by the local affiliate station.
voyager6868 2005-09-28, 10:49 PM I figured I may as well complain to the CRTC as well since they seem to be the ones "forcing" Rogers to do this:

dialog_gvf 2005-09-29, 12:52 PM Well, so far:
Commander and Chief: Someone forgot to throw the switch for the first half.
Lost: Late switches (SD -> HD as a show is re-entered).
Detroit was getting very good with HD reliability.
Gary
nfitz 2005-09-29, 01:06 PM Detroit was getting very good with HD reliability. I disagree with this. NBC Detroit was awful. Even the last day or so they were carried on Rogers they were screwing up, with most of the ER premiere going out in SD last week.
Nick
voyager6868 2005-09-29, 01:26 PM It was only bad the "last day" because there was a storm around Detroit and they had to put up that map with the affected areas.

You should write to Rogers digitaltvsupport@rcirogers.com (I hope this address is within the guidelines here). Obviously this wasn't a Rogers problem but the originating station's. However, complaining about Buffalo stations might just switch us back to Detroit!
nfitz 2005-09-29, 02:53 PM It was only bad the "last day" because there was a storm around Detroit and they had to put up that map with the affected areas.Though it was an SD picture as well ... it wasn't just the overlay.
But ER was frequently a problem during the previous season as well. Not sure what happened during the repeat season ... but in my experience, NBC Detroit is just as much of a problem as the Buffalo stations.

Yes, the problem is that they can't do an overlay on HD, because they haven't bought expensive equipment to do that. So to show the overlay, they have to use the SD picture.
In any case, I agree NBC Detroit wasn't perfect... But Buffalo NBC isn't any better.. AND.. Buffalo ABC and CBS have problems... and FOX apparently caused STBs to reboot...
castaban 2005-10-02, 12:32 AM I send an email message to Rogers complaining about the switch. I also put a request to CRTC complaining that they are forcing this switch. I suggest everybody does the same, let's flood them with emails. Picture quality is definitely subpar, with problems and also I believe the sound is not 5.1 (I am mostly concerned about ABC and Fox).
I am quite pissed about this
nfitz 2005-10-02, 01:47 AM Am I the only one here, who doesn't see a picture quality difference between Buffalo and Detroit?
And I'm sure mistakes have happened, but I haven't caught any transmission errors either.
Is this really a HD problem, or are people just whining because they lost the extra non-network programming from the Detroit stations, to which they were never entitled?
Nick
My main issue with the Buffalo HD feeds has been the sound. It buzzes and cuts out constantly, like the stations are still in test mode.
wannna_be 2005-10-02, 11:38 AM Well when I was with Expressvu they had the Boston Channels which I can say are far superior to the Detroit and Buffalo stations.
Wish we could have those on Rogers in the GTA
When watching any of the Buffalo HD channels I see odd glitches from time to time. Nothing as bad as last weeks D.Housewives on ABCHD, but annoying nevertheless. For me, the whole purpose of getting HD was so I could see very clean, clear TV. At the moment, I'm not getting this from Buffalo stations. NBCHD seems to have these show more frequently, but I see them too on CBSHD and the others. The picture tears horizontally for a moment about a third of the way down the screen. Once in a while the audio will cut too - sounds like a bad edit.
I think I'll try to keep a diary of these so I can email Rogers again. The approx. time and channel/show they occured in.
castaban 2005-10-02, 12:54 PM There is definitely a quality difference. Actually when the switch occurred, I was not aware that it did happen or it was gonna happen (I got my notice late and did not check the forum). I was wondering what happened to that quality picture I used to get, how come sound was not 5.1 and it was dropping like crazy. It was so bad during Housewives, I tuned to CTV. Than I get the notice and it downed on me.
Just birching and complaining here will not gonna do anything though. You have to let them (Rogers and CRTC) know, then maybe, maybe something might happen...
nfitz 2005-10-02, 04:20 PM You have to let them (Rogers and CRTC) know, then maybe, maybe something might happen...If there really is a quality difference (and personally, I'm not seeing it ... Lost on ABC looked fine to me), then surely the complaint should be to the Buffalo station. These are the stations that we rightfully should be getting on HD from Rogers!

Because we aren't getting the Buffalo signals OTA, if you complained to a Buffalo station they would say it's a cable problem, therefore nothing to do with them. "It's fine leaving here" would be their comment!
nfitz 2005-10-02, 06:12 PM Wait ... you are saying that OTA Buffalo is as good as Detroit ... but although Rogers was passing the Detroit signal across okay ... they aren't sending Buffalo okay??
That doesn't sound fully plausible to me ... though not watching OTA, it is difficult to prove otherwise ...
Nick
Sarcasm is wasted (lost?) on some people.... ;)
nfitz 2005-10-02, 07:30 PM Sarcasm is wasted (lost?) on some people.... ;)Oh, was that sarcasm? I guess I just can't comprehend the signal problems other people are seeing, so I just don't get it ...
... meanwhile, we have other folks complaining about the HD Sun channel, when the picture is clearly better quality than what is being broadcast on channel 15.
... I just don't get it.
Nick
We get the whole spectrum here. ;)
