From an Internal Communique from Rogers Cable:

Effective Friday September 23, Buffalo HDTV Channels will be replacing Detroit HDTV CHannels in parts of Ontario. The Channels impacted are ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX.

I don't know if they're going to simsub. I liked how the Detroit Channels were simsub free from any Canadian commercials.

If Rogers does start simsubbing the Buffalo DTV's then you can easily go the OTA route. I just hope Rogers provides a reliable signal with Buffalo. I dont think this is such a big deal. Mind you, I dont like the grey bars on WGRZ-DT.

If I ever go to the channel when 4:3's on, I end up watching the black line at the edge of the 4:3 image get smaller and larger as the image shifts...

...here in TO I wonder when the IPG will catch up. Still lists for Detroit.

At least you won't have to put up with those annoying grey bars on CBS 4:3 broadcasts anymore. Now you can watch them on NBC 4:3 instead.

Have the channels changed this morning? Because as of last night, I was still getting Detroit channels

Have the channels changed this morning?

Yes they have.

Just out of curiosity...what precipitated the change now? I mean, I know the CRTC is ultimately the reason behind the switch (no position on that either way, don't care, don't want to start a CRTC bashfest), but what I mean is why now? Did the Buffalo stations just recently get up to the same level as the Detroit stations as far as broadcasting capability goes?

As long as the quality doesn't suffer, I'm completely fine with the switch personally...I guess time will tell.

Yes, the change affects Rogers in K-W as well. Hopefully the Buffalo HD quality is at least as good as Detroit...

Don't know but I suspect it came from complaints by CTV and Global who want to simulcast.

Ahhh...gotcha. What was stopping them from simulcasting with the Detroit stations? Are we talking about simsubbing? Or something different?

Again, purely curious and not trying to start a flamewar or anything.

Is it just me, or is the SD quality of the Buffalo channels noticeably worse than the Detroit?

I just had Wheel of Fortune on on Buffalo ABC and the quality of the channel looks like something from about 15 years ago :( This sucks.

So is PBS still coming from Detroit, or did they also switch that to WNED.

Also are the initials the same.

ie is NBC HD still listed as HDNBC?

At this time, PBS is still coming from Spokane only.

The Detroit stations have been "up" for several (about 4) years while the Buffalo stations only recently have been "up".

Wheel should look a lot better on the HD channel though, than the SD one!

I've never seen the SD Detroit ABC channel ... but the SD PBS channel from Detroit has just about the worst picture quality I've ever seen on Rogers ... looks way too digitally compressed ... and it has since the first day Rogers put it on cable to replace WNEQ.

I wonder why Rogers hasn't changed it back to Detroit or Buffalo? The intallation of WTVS-DT's new equipment has been done for quite some time. StarChoice has already moved back to Detroit.

I definitely agree. For example, on NBC Detroit, they would always pull the High-Definition feed for 4:3 programming, but it looks like NBC Buffalo pulls the SD-feed for 4:3 and upconverts it. The network upconverters are much better.

The HD stations in London will likely stay Detroit, since the SD channels are also Detroit there.
