Once they get through, some CSR will say "we haven't heard of any problems, everything's fine here... Please reboot your e-mail system."

WGRZ is impressing me, WIVB is pretty good too besides the sound issue, although the random cutouts during live programming is annoying, WUTV doesnt seem to like airing Football in HD,

WKBW just sucks at HD.

Altho the Cable Television Standards Council clearly rules mostly in favor of the cablecos - and doesn't seem to have much teeth in their decisions...

I strongly recommend that Rogers Cable users experiencing HD problems with the Buffalo Signals submit complaints. Given that Rogers is obligated to respond to CTSC complaints in timely way, I suspect that a large volume of complaints about the exact same issue at that site might force some action.

Specifically the section of the industry standards violated in this case would be :

"(i) members commit to provide "the most economic and reliable technologies capable of providing high-quality signals to the customer’s home";
(iii) each member company will "maintain high-quality signals in accordance with the federal Department of Communications’ Broadcast Procedure 23, and complete any necessary repairs in a timely and effective manner". "

Clearly the Buffalo signals are not of high-quality.

WUTV-DT and WIVB-DT are doing pretty good tonight with the football broadcast.... plus im growing attached to News4 :P

Dump WKBW by all means, but the others are doing pretty damn good.

the lost cause... aka WKBW-TV, decided to not air Desperate Housewives and the show before it in High Defenition...

Rogers should take advantage of the CRTC Regulation allowing them to use detroit... for the love of god.

Here is part of the response I just got back from Rogers when I wrote (again!) to complain about the lack of HD on HDABC Buffalo tonight :

"As we do appreciate your concerns regarding your issue, please be
advised that the decision to air shows from Buffalo and not Detroit,
reflects issues which are beyond the line of support provided by the
technical support team."

So it would appear that it's almost a waste of time emailing Rogers digital tv support. The suggestion of Lajohn27 re. contacting CTSC about this would seem to be a better way. Obviously Rogers have no intention of doing anything about it. When I phoned their so-called executive offices, the guy I spoke with claimed to have no idea of the avalanche of complaints we alone have sent in and wasn't too interested in talking with me. I never got any reply back in response to two snail mail letters I sent them, documenting the times and channels having major technical problems.

Personally, I still have had less instances where the shows I watch have been broadcast in the wrong resolution on the Buffalo channels, than they were on the Detroit channels. And the lack of sound problems seem to have been resolved as far as I know.

I don't think Shaw would be any better from what I've heard, assuming I could switch to it. I'm in downtown Toronto and only Rogers provides cable. As for Bell, I'm not sure how much better they'd be. There is more to a provider other than HD and apart from HDABC Buffalo, I'm quite happy with Rogers.

I can't see switching providers on this issue either, many of us are simply upset that Rogers switched to Buffalo before Buffalo stations were "ready". Had they done the switch later this year when ABC is DD5.1 and perhaps running better and had NBC been running better too, there wouldn't have been nearly the negative feedback.

The fact that ABC and Fox were completely down for a while didn't help either.

I don't think Rogers did their homework on the Buffalo stations before switching, or the "deal" was simply too good to pass up.

It was always a no-brainer that ultimately we would be getting local (Buffalo) HD signals over Michigan ones. It's never going to be perfect - and Detroit wasn't perfect either.

I just think energy would be better expended simply focussing on simple points (complaining about lack of 5.2 on particular stations; poor compression) rather than raising the whole Buffalo versus Detroit thing.

The complaints over more reasonable issues, such as the $10 a month for a very limited HD package were quite successful. But if complain about everything under the sun, we lose credibility.

One of my sons purchased Rogers HDSportPak.Surfing thru I found GlobalHD,FoxBuf.,FoxW.,CBSBuf.,CBSW.and Det.HD-CBS&FOX being used as fillers on Ch. 476-482.Flipping back and forth the quality difference between Buf.& Det.is still evident especially the sound on CBS' Tom Selleck movie last nite.We are in Kitchener.

well here is another argument..

If rogers is still carrying detroit Channels on channels 476-482, considering the subpar quality of buffalo stations, they should allow us to access detroit CBS and Fox. no ABC tho :(

i see the two channels that we dont have access too. must be detroit.

well now i have another point in my next letter to the execs.

I don't know how the logistics of it will work, but I think if we could launch a group complaint with CRTC, I think Rogers will be more responsive. For me, ABC Buffalo HD is a write off, I only go there if I have to (I automatically switch to CTV now, lack of 5.1 and bideo/audio problems completely turned me off). Considering there are so few HD stations, not being able to use one is a major drawback.

I agree - count me in for any group action. HDABC Buffalo is sometimes the only network carrying certain shows - Invasion for one. Though the last episode was actually in HD, there was still some video breakup and audio problems. I could record the Seattle version and view it the following evening, but usually I want to watch a show now, when it's being transmitted.

ok who wants to make a website about Rogers' Incompitence with HDTV? I'll provide the hosting.

I need some other people to help contribute to it, but i've got enough space to host one,

In a follow up to my earlier post, I have recieved a letter, email and phone call from CTSC in responce to my complaint to the CRTC. They will be getting back to me within 14 days. I have pointed her to the relevant forums here to check out what people are saying. She agrees that this kind of television is unacceptable quality and 'we' the subscribers are entitled to perfect quality.

BTW 57: Thanks for changing the name on my post! I totally forgot about that. You saved me. Thank you.

Penguin:

Isn't it just STOOPID that in order to reach anybody at Rogers who has ANY CLUE about the issues, you have to resort to complaining to the government body responsible for the industry and then they have to push you off to an industry funded 'watchdog' - who *might* be able to get some answers.

Utterly ridiculous.

Marketplace had a great show on how terrible customer service is these days - Across the board in all industries. Great show.

I don't think it's just me actually ;) (sorry had to say something)

As I've stated before I'm disappointed with Rogers (TV) for more than just the switch. However, the responses or lack of response are expected and typical. I'm still pissed that we pay for digital cable, pay for HD service and still HAVE to rent their box for far too much when we could buy/build a more functional media PC for the same or less! The Buffalo switch is secondary to other issues but they all add up.

I'd switch but they have the best cell phone rates (for me) and I lived in a condo where ONLY Rogers was available and now live in an area where ONLY Rogers provides high speed internet. As a customer I've had very little choice but to use Rogers services and I fell they've exploited this. So in answer to your question - yes I think it's STOOPID, no I'm not surprised.

I'm not 'as ticked' at Rogers as I could be cause I managed to get their ditch the dish offer (free HD PVR for 24 months) and also catch the 15% of all services discount before it was discontinued.

Bell Expressvu is a joke. I would never subscribe to that. They do not deserve my money.

And while I like Starchoice; the discounts and value that I get from Rogers is the best deal right now in my situation.

Did anybody contact Pat Foran or Silverman or Sean O'Shea?

If not, i'll start sending them out.
