I have an SA8300HD PVR and a Pioneer PRO-1010HD 50" plasma. I love how they work together. However, as we often cannot watch recorded show fast enough from the SA8300 PVR (run out of HD storage space on the SA8300), I have to resort to recording them on my DVD recorder or my VCR.

My problem is that with the HDMI cable plugged into the SA8300, if I turn off my Pioneer display, the RF output of the SA8300HD seems to be switched off and I get the message that my TV cannot process the digital signal (I presume that the RF signal is automatically switched off). That means that to retain the analog RF output, I need to either leave my Pioneer turned on or unplug the HDMI cable. Neither of these solutions is very desirable.

Can you tell me how I can have an RF output from my SA8300 with the Pioneer display turned off and the HDMI cable still plugged in?

Thank you. I am a new member, excited to discover this forum.

Wally

wally we have a very active Rogers 8000 series forum where you can probably find your answer. If I understand your question correctly, the answer is you can't but this issue has been discussed in the ROgers forum many times so try searching for the thread.

Thanks for your response Hugh. I am so new at this I have to ask, is the Rogers box the same as Scientific Atlanta? I have an SA8300HD. did not know if answers would apply since that is apparently another kind of box.

I did not describe my problem as precisely as I could have. It is all analog outputs (s-video, composite and RF) that I lose from my SA8300HD when my monitor is turned of and HDMI cable is attached. Really annoying.

This issue may be resolved with newer firmware, but I believe for now, you need to leave the TV on. I believe you can turn the TV to another (empty) input if you like...

Sorry this is the wrong forum for this, but I can't make any new posts, I can only reply. Is this due to me being a new member?

Anyhow, I was wondering why optical movie technology didn't come out earlier. I'm sure the technology for DVD was possible in the early 90s, or even late 80s. Now, I may be assuming too much for the computers at the time (a late 80s computer could do 10-15mhz, if that. Maybe not fast enough to decompress and stream content).
Anyway, I know this isn't regarding HD technology, but it seems like the technology curve (VHS-DVD, DVD-HDDVD) was a little slow.
Thank god we have 500GB hard drives around these days, that's only about 50 hours of HD content. The world would be a different place if hard drive capacity peaked at 5GB.
