I did a search for "call display" and didn't find the answer. Does Rogers Home Phone have the capability to show call display on your TVs via the STBs you may have (or perhaps even without the STBs)?
I understand that BTV does this, but then their STBs are plugged into the phone line.
But Rogers Home Phone is now on Cable and perhaps since the STBs/TVs also plug into cable...?
We don't have that 57 - but I hope it's something that can be looked into and hopefully implemented at a later date.
Thanks rRep, please make the recommendation to management/technical. This would need to be an option, since some people may not like call display on their TVs unless they have the option to turn it off, while keeping call display on their phones turned on.
travisc 2009-06-05, 11:19 AM This is doable on the Motorola platform, just as a note. I know Rogers in Ontario is Scientific Atlanta.
kibosh 2009-06-05, 02:26 PM This is from Time Warner's site . . . notice they say it is only available on the SA box . . . sounds exactly like what we want! :)
Caller ID on TV
Find out who's calling without taking your eyes off the TV screen. When your phone rings, Caller ID on TV opens a text box with the name and number of the caller right on your TV screen. This cool feature is another exciting Time Warner Cable digital innovation designed to bring you the very best in home entertainment.
It’s free with Digital Cable and Digital Phone
Caller ID on TV is automatically turned on when you subscribe to both Digital Cable and Digital Phone. So you don’t have to do anything but enjoy the convenience that Caller ID on TV provides. Available only in areas utilizing the Scientific Altlanta (SA) box.
Not a customer yet?
Here’s How it Works
You can turn Caller ID on TV off, turn it back on or to see who your last 10 callers were, just follow these easy instructions.
To turn on Caller ID on TV:
1.Press "A" on your digital remote control.
2.Select "Caller ID." The display will read "Call Alert OFF."
3.Press SELECT on your remote control and "Call Alert ON" will appear with a check mark.
To turn off Caller ID on TV:
1.Press "A" on your digital remote control.
2.Select "Caller ID" and scroll down to "Call Alert ON."
3.Press on your remote control and "Call Alert OFF."
To see who the last 10 callers were:
1.Press on your digital remote control.
2.Select "Caller ID." The display will read "Received Calls."
3.Press SELECT on your remote control to view your last 10 calls received
Thanks kibosh for that information. The fact that it can be turned off is good, because some people wouldn't want this on their display for a programme that they wished to archive.
scotta 2009-06-06, 08:31 AM 57,
I would hope that call display wouldn't show up if you were archiving using the "copy to VCR" feature, even if the option were turned on.
That might go beyond the firmware writing capabilities of some people. ;)
tvbangel 2009-06-09, 05:36 PM I signed up for rogers phone last month for the new 15% bundle discount as well
but afterwards i read on the rogers website that long distance calls made through a calling card will be billed. This doesn't make sense to me. How can a 416 number call to another 416 number be billed as a long distance number?
Has anyone been billed LD for a call made using a calling card?
Thanks
marvin23 2009-06-13, 10:10 AM I had Rogers home phone for a couple years sound quality was pretty good, but I got rid of it today and switched to Vonage to save a little money. They're handling my phone number transfer for me.
Does anyone know if I have to return my Arris phone cable modem to Rogers?
green1074 2009-06-14, 09:24 AM I believe you should return the modem, as it's their property.
I had Rogers POTS service until April when I was forced to switch. I was apprehensive about the product because of what I had heard. I must say, I do not notice anything, other than the fact that my line sounds cleaner. All my features work and the new price plans save me a lot of money.
tvbangel, have you looked at the new plans that include long distance? They're cheaper than the regular packages.
Yes, it is to be returned or you'll pay $130 for it.
I have a few questions before I go ahead with one of the value plans (probably classic). I did a search for most of these questions, but came up pretty empty, although one or two of the answers could be in disparate threads.
1. How many messages are you allowed if you have voice mail on Roger Home Phone - is there a limit in terms of number or time?
2. Is there an "indicator" if you have a message waiting? (I guess this may depend on your phone?
3. I'll likely get the "Home and Away Voicemail" feature, which means that item 2 above is not that important - it sends e-mails of your voicemail to your e-mail address as WAV files. It seems like a great feature. It says that it works on both Home Phone and wireless. I'm planning to get a PAYG wireless plan and I assume that the "Home and away voicemail" feature will not be automatically assigned to the PAYG wireless along with the Home phone, although I could be mistaken? My second feature will be call display.
4. I assume I'll be able to keep my existing phone number. Does Rogers advise Bell, or do I, or is it best to do both? I assume I'll need to give Bell 30 days notice or something...
5. Does Rogers Home Phone accept digipulse dialing as well as touchtone (at the same time). I currently have one old rotary phone that I'd like to keep, and my alarm system is programmed to dial out as pulse dialing and I'd prefer not to pay the alarm service to change this...
6. Does my Rogers Home Phone listing go into (stay in) the white pages directory?
Thanks in advance for those who know the answers. I'd prefer if people didn't "guess" since I can do that... ;)

1. msg llimit - don't know the answer to this but no recollection of any limit; messages are retained for at least 2 weeks
2. msg indicator - yes; dial tone "stutter" when you pick-up plus blinking light if phone so equipped
3. don't know how home and away integrates with wireless voice mail or if PAYG qualifies
4. if you are in Toronto there shouldn't be an issue with porting your number; your MUST leave it to Rogers to arrange the porting and notify Bell. You risk losing the number if you notify Bell yourself.
5. digipulse works - I just tested it.
6. White pages listing has continued for us. Unfortunately, as with Bell, you have to pay not to be listed. Change to this archaic policy is over-due.
Thank you.
1. Two weeks seems a bit short if you're going away on a 3-4 week vacation....
2. Great
3. I'll ask Rogers, PAYG probably doesn't qualify, but who knows?
4. Do Rogers "cancel" Bell, or do I need to call Bell for that part?
5. Thank you very much for testing. That's great.
6. I solved the unlisted payment issue by listing my phone under an alias. In the old days an unlisted number didn't get called by telephone marketers, but now telephone marketers use number generators (or do-not-call lists ;) ), so an "unlisted" number gets called anyway...
travisc 2009-07-19, 11:01 PM Rogers cancels Bell, you should have nothing to do to eradicate them.

Yes, there is an indicator, provided your phone supports it. I have an AT&T 993, which has a light that turns on when there's voice mail. There is also the stuttered dial tone. I have my cell phone configured to send unanswered calls to my home phone, where, if again unanswered, it will go to voice mail. I've configured the voice mail to send an email to my cell phone, when there's voice mail. I've had the Rogers home phone service for a few months and other than a network issue, which I mentioned in another thread, it works quite well. The call quality seems a bit better than Bell. In fact, one friend even commented on that during a call.
leeanne172 2009-07-22, 02:30 AM Can anyone comment on long distance sound quality to the U.S? We had the home phone a few years ago for about 3 months (two different modems in that time) and found that the sound quality to the States was just horrible but in Canada it was perfect, the sound could be muffled, staticy or sometimes we could hear the person on the line but they couldn't hear us or if they did our voice would have static  hope its improved, been thinking of switching but don't want to end up with the same issues, the LD to the U.S with Bell is not perfect by any means but for hubby and I it has been better then what we remember with Rogers
JamesK 2009-07-22, 10:35 AM I suspect it's more of an issue of carrier or customer, rather than just to the U.S.
Flagman 2009-08-14, 11:01 PM Been thinking about this for a while after a few frustrating experiences with Bell Customer Support, but finally got around to it when I got a Rogers sales call tonight.
With Bell, I've had only the basic 1 line phone service with touch-tone, and I'm currently paying almost $39/mth including all taxes and fees. I have also had Sympatico High Speed pretty much since it came on the market. For that I'm paying about $58/mth incl. fees and taxes. (claimed 5Mbps speed/no cap - latest measured speeds 3.2 Mbps download, 400 kps upload, average bandwidth usage 35-40 Gb per month)
Rogers offered their Home Phone with 2 features (I went with call display and call waiting) along with 500 min/mth LD in North America included (we rarely use LD so this will be more than I will ever need) for $35.38 incl all fees and taxes.
In order to get a bigger bundling discount I also took the plunge and switched to Rogers High Speed Express (up to 10 Mps, 60 Gb cap) for $46.99/mth for 6 months, $48.52 after that. Plus, since I already had Rogers Cable and wireless phone account, I get 15% off those services too, which will save me an additional almost $20/mth.
So as a result I will be saving almost $35/mth, getting 2 more phone features and faster internet service. Hopefully, I won't regret putting all my eggs in the big red basket...
