: Samsung HLR5064W & HLR6164...good price??
knphee 2005-08-06, 10:24 PM I'm in the market for a new tv and was shopping today and got quoted these prices:
HLR5064W for $2360 + tax
HLR6164 for $3000 + tax
Any comments as to whether or not these are "good" prices???
Thanks in advance!
daz-man 2005-08-12, 02:41 AM The HLR 6164 at BB is $3799.99, so I'd say it' good.

Why not wait a week or so.
Another poster in a 1080p thread just reported getting a 1080p HLR 6178 from Samsung.
If these HLR xx78 models are about to arrive, the 720p HLR xx64 models are bound to start dropping in price very quickly with a superior model in the stores.
Just my opinion, but if you want a 720p model you may regret getting one this week.

Seems like very good prices... what store was that at?
tvman23 2005-08-31, 09:01 PM I am selling the samsung HL R6164 for $3250 and the HL R5064 for $2599 tax included. Shipping is only $70 for most provinces. I am a brand new wholesaler in BC and am offering rock bottom prices to get the word out, checkout my Ebay auctions. I have most brands and models available.
Lando 2005-08-31, 10:16 PM Do you have any 6168's yet?!
daz-man 2005-09-01, 01:07 AM What's your user name??
BlueSkyzz 2005-09-28, 09:01 PM Hey tvman23, where abouts in BC are you? Lower mainland?
What other tv's are you selling?
ATOMSMASHER 2005-12-12, 03:10 PM I just picked up a HL-R6164W (Manufactured Aug 2005) with the Samsung stand for $3900 taxes in. I was happy considering the stand costs $700!
The pic quality is crappy with regular cable but good with DVD and Satellite. Im not HDTV but will be soon.
I just had a question about this TV. Is the colour wheel 10,800 rpm? It does have the Cinema Smooth 7 segment colour wheel but im not sure of the RPMs.
Also any special "break-in" recommendations? I know with plasma screens its not recommended to keep the contrast more then 50 for the first 100 hours?
And any do's and donts for a DLP.
My remote, hate that joystick crap, my owners manual shows a different remote without the joystick, you think they packed the wrong remote?
thanks guys, glad to be DLP!
Just ordered the HLR5064 from FS this week. Got the TV for $2100 + tax and Samsung stand for $210 + tax. Also bought 5 yr plan, cables and monster power bar at regular price. I was armed with BB's print-out from the web as their price is $600 off. FS beat the price! Also came armed with price alerts from the last 30 days from FS which had cables and power bar on sale! They took sale prices difference off the TV and stand.
I saw SD in-store and it looked pretty good considering. Delivery is for Dec. 28th so I can keep you all posted on what I think!

CalgaryCowboy 2005-12-23, 12:00 AM Just bought the hlr5064 at Soundsaround Calgary for 1899 and the stand was 350. I thought the stand was too expensive but they would not budge. The delivery date is the 29 and they do a complete set up including building the stand. I might not wait and pick it up and set up my self.
lm1600 2006-01-01, 03:30 AM Looked at the same sets today at Best Buy in Winnipeg. The HLR 5064 Samsung 50" DLP was 2199.99 and the HLR 6164 was 3199.99. Those prices you received are very close.
Cheers
TOSnapper 2006-01-06, 07:47 PM I got mine at FS for $2199 (plus free pack of rechargable batteries  )
I read in another post that FS cost on the unit was $2064 ? So $1899 above is quite a steal!

Yeah, checked a couple of days ago and it was back up to $2200. At Soundsaround they have a AD beat policy. It states that they will beat any advertised price by 10% automaticly so when FS had it on for that the price on the tv showed the FS price and the AD Beat price. I like that you don't have to ask for them to match they just do. At FS I was shoping for a digital Camcorder for my parents and it was 449 called Sounds around and it was 379 and FS matched no problem. FS must make a furtune off people that don's shop around or ask.
Silverbullet 2006-01-09, 12:11 AM I have one on hold at BB for $1979.00 but there is a thread in here that is making me change my mind...
Elziar 2006-01-30, 02:46 PM There are some good deals on these models out there. I just got mine delivered this past Friday. I paid $2499 which included the custom Samsung stand, a Samsung DVD Recorder and an XBox + free delivery (60 miles outside Calgary).
CalgaryCowboy 2006-01-31, 12:37 PM I saw that deal too at FS. I think there will be some deep discounts on these soon. It is a great tv but doesn't show well against others (tosh for one) side by side others are brighter, and have better colour but still looks great at home.
Elziar 2006-01-31, 02:01 PM I actually got the Samsung to replace a Toshiba DLP HMX4685(I think that was the model). I found that the Toshiba had a dark picture & wasn't as clear. This Samsung beats it hands down. I may have gotten a bad apple when I got this Toshiba, although I have looked at other Toshibas & found that the color is not as sharp or bright as the Samsung.
