So, Mondays Gazette, full of Boxing Day sales. Ad for Centre HI-FI, one day only the KFE50A10 for $1979.99. Drive into Sears Angrignon expecting a million people at Customer Service to find no one. Showed the ad and got the difference refunded immediately. $520, no hassle, no nothing, nobody called to see if they had any. Nothing, just the difference back. Total time 6 minutes.

Great TV BTW. Get one , you will love it!

Norm

Do you happen to still have that ad from the Gazette around? That price is a steal and, if you could scan/take a picture of it, it would be very helpful to have a copy to show the guys at FS when negotiating.

Gladly would, unfortunately, I have no scanner or digital camera of any sorts to be able to do that. I do assure you though that it was sold for 199.00 for 5 years. This was the Scrabrough location, and the salesman, while his name I don't remember, was a clean shaven brown guy, about 5'7". Shipping was $60, and the non-Sony stand was ~270$.

As for price matching, definetely the best of luck to you. Like I said, the Best Buy TV department manager refused to even listen to me after I named the price at which Home Show was offering - and this was boxing day itself.

Thanks Evgeny. I also bought the TV at the Scarborough shop. Could you do me a huge favor and provide me with the document # of your transaction and the name of the sales person? This info is shown on the top right hand corner of your sales invoice. This would be of great help for me to claim the difference on the 5 year service plan.

Thanks a bunch and enjoy your new TV when it arrives.

Evgeny, I talked to Customer Services of HomeShow. They said $299 is the right price to charge on 5 year warranty. They need a reference to your transaction to be able to investigate into the matter. Your help to provide this info would be much appreciated.

I would be interested as to what was the best price any of you have seen for the 50" Sony Rear Projection this past week. I haven't purchased yet but the best price I could negociate was at the Bay in Oshawa Ont for $2399. Many stores were selling at $2499 and willing to deal on the cost of cables and Ext warranty but not on the price of the Tv.
Regards Bailey

It seems worth to PM if people got this TV from FS or BB a few weeks ago.

Is there geographic restrictions on FS price matching? Be nice to get back a couple hundred more dollars.

I just bought (Dec 27) a SONY KDF60WF655 from BestBuy at 3000+tx.

The new model SONY KDFE60A20 I could get for 3300+tx at FutureShop.

Hmmm, I should have taken the new model ? :o

There shouldn't be. FS' policy is across Canada. I live in the Toronto area and will be trying to get a PM with this ad.

The only thing that FS may do is attempt to call the store to determine whether they have the item in stock. If they don't, I expect FS to give me a hard time about it.

Stay tuned...

I can't wait to see one of their staff try to speak french! :D

I am going to try later. I guess the issue is will be that I already have the TV, and this came up days ago, so the assumpution would be that at that time, they would have had stock. Since FS was not doing exchanges/refunds etc on Mon & Tue that I would not have had an opportunity to do the PM when the ad was posted. See what happens.

Here an invoice to help you pricematch with the Dumoulin ad.

I got the PM yesterday at FS on Wellington in London. I bought the tv 3 weeks ago for $2346, and got $358 + taxes back. Took a bit of arguing - what finally swung it was when I told the manager that Ottawa FS did the PM for someone yesterday morning (the receipt hadn't been posted when I left for London - if I'd had that it probably wouldn't have been as difficult). I think he attempted to call the Ottawa store, but it being so busy, couldn't get through. So he muttered to the CS girl "pricematch it" and walked away.

So it is possible :D

Well, I'm armed and ready to go...I have a copy of the Dumoulin ad and a copy of the receipt as provided by you very fine folks.

I bought my TV at Best Buy so I'll see what happens. FS and BB are the same company so I'm not expecting any problems.

I may call Dumoulin myself to see if they still have the TV in stock - just in case.

Just got off the phone with Dumoulin and the salesperson told me that they don't have anymore of the TV's in stock across Quebec.

But, I'm going to follow henryk's suggestion below and see how it goes.

Do you think FS will price match my 42KDFE that I purchased last week to Homeshows' boxing day price ? I paid $1988 for it at FS. The ad is still posted here and I know that they would not have price matched on the 26th or 27th as they were well busy . I'm still within my 30 days to return it and If I don't get the PM I think I'll try and exchange it for the 50KFE .. What do you guys think ?

Hi stooker, just wanted to say Thanks for taking the time to scan and post your flyer and receipt. You have probably helped many get a better price for their Tv and as for myself I get a better idea of how much wiggle room these retailers have when it comes to making a deal.
Thanks Bailey.

I purchased the 50 inch KDFE version for 1999.00 last week. It was on sale for one day at SoundSaround in Calgary. A four year warranty cost me 200 dollars.

I'd like "Thank You" as well to stooker and all the folks who shared their experiences and good fortune.

Unfortunately, tonight, Best Buy didn't do the PM for me citing several reasons (excuses) why they wouldn't do it such as:

1. The Dumoulin stores doesn't have any in stock
2. They would have to rebate the delivery charges
3. The Dumoulin website now has the 50" at their regular price of $2799.
4. They don't do PM's on stores offering "limited quantities" as per their PM policy.

Spoke (argued) with the manager and even though I was well prepared, it just didn't happen. I even threatened to return my television since I was within my 30 days and he said that I have every right to do so but he can't do the PM.

Hey John Harris,
That is an absolutely brilliant price you paid mate. I think I'm gonna return my 42 and wait for the prices to come down a bit..
Do SoundSaround have an online Flyer?

FS in Surrey BC, what a run-around:

FS) If they do not offer financing like we do, the we cant honor it.
Me) Your price matching does not specify that payment method is a condition of price matching

FS) They do not have local stores
ME) Have you read your own price matching policy, it says 'Canada Wide'

FS) Their website shows a different price
ME) I don't care what the web-site says, thats a print ad, and it could be different

FS) Phones Doumont and finds out (I was there when he was talking to them) that the ad was an error, and it was supposed to be the 42" at that price, not the 50"
ME) Left store with no price match.

So even with the copy of the FS receipt in hand, they would not meet it. They said 'Whoever got that price, is lucky and got it by mistake'

Oh Well.. :(
