It's not that I want to change some of the purchasing plans around here but I think that all of you aiming at buying A10 should get the KDEF (instead of KEF). I know it is $150~200 more expensive but you get a tuner.

I got mine (still not delivered) so I cannot get you my experience but a good friend was telling me that his OTA reception on a very tiny not calibrated antenna beats hands down PQ from Rogers cable in most cases. When I wanted to see that he showed me and he was right. When you think about it it makes sense. Rogers is compressing signal to squeeze channels within the same bandwidth. So why not have another option especially when you spend so much initially.

Just my 2 cents.

If you find a price at Futureshop or Best Buy that you're reasonably happy with, then pick it up - they'll match a better in-store price up until Jan 11/06. No need to go on Boxing Day with all the crowds!
(and you can enjoy your tv over the holidays)
I bought mine at Best Buy (pick it up this weekend) using the Sears Ad match price of $2499 for the KDFE50A10.

By the way, some of you may find this useful:
http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=1001599

It's a mail-in rebate on Home Theatre systems from Sony if you buy your tv up until the end of December.

What would be a good enough sale price to watch for before pulling the trigger on the 50" KFE?

Right now it's $2799.99 at Future Shop - I was thinking maybe a sale price of $2200? And I want the stand - would $2500 for the tv plus the stand be within reason to aim for?

I also want the 5 yr. warranty, but I was thinking of waiting until almost a year is up, then buying it from Sony, since I understand they let you purchase an extended warranty anytime until the first year warranty expires, no matter where you bought the tv?

Just formulating a plan of action so I'm ready to pounce. ;-)

Sears has the sales again until DEC. 24 on the KFE..A10. $300 off their list price.

FS has the KFE..A10 on their web site now and in today's flyer with the full MSRP price. I doubt they will do price match again on Sears's $2499 KFE50A10 and give you a KDFE50A10.

So those got the price match during the past few weeks considered them lucky.

This time the Sears website is showing the prices of $1999 & $2499 for the KFE 42" & 50". And it doesn't even say that it's a "sale price". Usually a sale price is in red, but it's looking just like a regular price.

Dumoulin in Montreal (large Quebec chain of electronics) just came out with their Christmas full color flyer and the prices are $1999 & $2499 as well. I think that will be regular selling prices for everyone, at least till boxing day.... I can't see the KDFE staying at $2499 for the 42 inch... I feel that no one is going to be ready to spend $500 extra for the ATSC tuner and the cable card...A maximum of $300 difference would make more sense...It is obvious that the KFE model (exclusive to Canada, not available in the US) was put out to have a price point attractive to consumers...I was lucky enough to get Future Shop to match Sear's first ad on the KFE but gave me the KDFE @ $1999.98 That won't certainly no more....

Do the KFEs have regular NTSC tuners? (for SD?) or does removing the ATSC remove that too? (sorry if that's a dumb question, sonystyle.ca didn't make it too obvious). I can't imagine someone selling a TV without an NTSC tuner, but...

The 42 being <= $2000 seems like it'll sell quite well. It's only ~10% difference in price, but somehow it just seems "cheaper" then. :)

Does anyone know if any of the Western Canadian Stores will actually be getting the KFE's? I recently bought a Samsung HLR5064, but I am going to take it back. The salesman at Regina Visions said that they don't know when/if they'll be getting any KFE's. I also visited Futureshop and they said they aren't getting them either.

Not sure about Sask, but the local FS here in Vancouver is getting them (or so the guy told me). So probably somewhere near you will get them? sears.ca/futureshop.ca will deliver pretty much anywhere too if you don't care about seeing it in a showroom first.

I'm curious as to why you returned the HLR5064. As of right now, my two main options are the 5064 and the A10 - I'm leaning towards the latter, although considering holding out to compare the A10 to Samsung's model next year.

I'm taking the Samsung 5064 back because I think the picture quality on SD channels is too poor. I just can't stand living with rainbow effect.

I'm considering either the Sony KFE50A10 or else a Hitachi 50V525 or 50VF820. NOt sure yet which one I want, but the salesman is claiming they aren't getting any Sony's in.

I see now they've updated the site - must have read my post :p

It now shows the savings in red, and shows the regular price and the sale price.

I'm new to the site, I've been watching this thread for a few weeks now, I just recently bought the KDFE at AB Sound for $1999(Nov. 25) by price matching the KFE at Sears( yes I'm sure I got the KDFE it has the tuner and the cable card slot). The surprising part is the manager at AB Sound knew the difference between the two tv's and matched the price anyways just to get my business, without buying the stand or the extra warranty. Great customer service if you ask me. Sony is going to make it hard for these stores that only stock the KDFE to sell their tv's, most people in Canada don't want or need the tuner or cable card slot. Also what is the ikea stand everyone is talking about(name?)

I believe the name of the stand at Ikea that fits the 42" is called the Stormark. Actually saw it last night at Ikea. Very nice stand.

I think I have filtered from all these posts that the KFE's are only available in Canada. Does anyone know whether they are a newer model than the KDFE or are they exactly the same model with the two or three differences that have been discussed on many posts.

It may still be possible to get a KDFE at FS or BB for the sale price of a KFE at Sears. I am also convinced that I will always either have cable or satellite so the tuner is not an issue for me. I am trying to decide if they are the same price and I don't care about the tuner, should I buy a KFE or a KDFE?

KFE's are only in Canada, laws in the US prevent them from being sold there. Everything exept the tuner and the cable card slot is exactly the same(Maybe something else, nothing major) I've seen both in person and they look exactly the same. You can go on Sony's website and compare them. If you don't need those parts then you should get the KFE. I've seen KFE's 42's at both Sears and FS for 1999.99.

and the KDFE did come out first but they are both current models, like others have said exactly the same minus some components
