: My favorite phone of all time

It’s been about 11 years since I got my first cell phone. It was the Rogers Amigo plan. As far as I can remember that was one of the first stabs Rogers made at attracting consumers to cell phones.

Since then I have used several providers and phones but my favorite phone of all time was the Ericsson T28. The phone was nothing fancy; it had a small screen and very basic features. But it was just the right size; thin and short. It was a flip phone in that the keys were covered but the part that flipped out was just a piece of plastic. What was really cool was the button to open the flipper. This was very useful when driving. I could push a button to open the flip (and answer the phone) without taking my eyes off the road.

Here is what it looked like:

I swear if that phone had the new 850 MHz GSM frequency I would still be using it. I find that all the cool camera and music features in today’s phones are fun for a week, and then you never use them. I think the most important features in the phone are a comfortable size and call quality.

Does anybody know if any manufacturer currently makes anything similar? Nice flat flip phone that supports 850 MHz. Even if it is a discontinued model that I could get on ebay or something.

The Moto V3 is nice and flat… but ummm a little pricy.

The Amigo was really the first consumer plan in Canada. That other company added a similiar plan a few months later.

I signed up on day one. Great package. Unlimited weekends and weeknights (6pm Friday to 8am Monday). My phone was a motorola but it wasn't a flip phone.

I remember my Amigo phone, got it July 1994. Compared to today's phones it was awful. The audio quality was bad, the battery was pathetic and the cost to use it outside of non-peak hours was really high - $0.75 / minute. I remember being in the Grad House at U. Waterloo and it rang, everyone's head turned to see what was ringing -- cell phones weren't that popular for non-business types back then.

I have one! I bought a Ericsson T28 World Phone off of Ebay for $15. It's a simple phone thats Multi-Band and can be used just about anywhere in the World. I took it on a trip to Thailand and it worked great there!!! I popped the SIM lock on it... easy to do on this old timer.... and was using a Thai SIM and had a local number that people there could connect with me on. :D

Nice thing about it was I didn't have to worry about anyone stealing it there heheheh No one would bother!

Yeah, you can still get a hold of them, but they do not support 850 mhz. A new version of the European model came out at one point and it supports 900 mhz, but of course we do everything differently in North America so we set up 850 mhz.

I know this is odd but when I googled the Amigo product from rogers, TheTinRam's post popped up. I'm in a scavenger hunt and I really need this item.

I'm located in the Toronto area, and I need to "borrow the item" on Friday between 3pm and 4pm. Anyone?
