AddictedtoToys 2005-10-03, 06:50 PM They told me to power up!
No, turn it off and keep plugged in. It goes into standby mode, and that's what is neccessary for software upgrades.
AddictedtoToys 2005-10-03, 06:56 PM I'm jealous but certainly glad the switchover went well for you. Football's great on HD, eh. Almost like being the cameraman right on the field. Still haven't resolved my SD problem. Giving myself another week which will round things up to abt 1 month.
Good luck with the installer tomorrow. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Riley 2005-10-03, 10:46 PM We just bought a Toashiba 44HM85 and was trying to decide if we were going to stay with *C. I called them up and explained Rogers was offering two years of free hardware rental. As a 3+ years subscriber I asked if they could do better than $199. They offered me a $50 dollar programming credit and a $50 PPV credit. I told them I really didn't need the PPV credit and asked if they would convert that to programming credit also. She put me on hold and came back and said yes. I therefore get $100 credit in programming when I activate the 505. Comes out to $100 for the box. Can't wait until Thursday to get the new TV!

Star Choice is great about being able to do that. I'm not surprised.
derekp 2005-10-04, 02:08 PM So did anyone get the update yet?
Da Da, Da Da, Da Da Da...
FrostyTheBeerman 2005-10-04, 02:58 PM Not really sure  ... I turned the box off last night,
and this morning one of my kids was watching tv before I got up so I don't have a clue.....
is the only way of telling if SC did an update, if.... you wake up and the box is ON ? .... ( and you know you turned it OFF the night before ) ?

Press the options button on your remote, then press system setup, then system settings, then system status. Line "H" will tell you current version 0.14 and line "I" will be the target version ie; the next one for down load. If it reads 0000, there is no new version to download at the moment.
Whew!! I'm tired now, I'm going to ly down.
jgib01 2005-10-04, 04:29 PM Have noticed that "have no subscription " message too on my 505, usually on HD channels.
Me as well. Has been happening sporadically since I got the unit last week, and am glad to hear that this will be fixed soon. Wonder what else the firmware update will do? I would love to be able to dim the front panel display like you can apparently do on the 530, and call display would be a nice bonus.
If this is in fact something that can be done through a simple firmware update, as someone else here has mentioned, then why wouldn't they just do it?!! I'd bet that the number of these units out there has increased dramatically with the price drop, and any improvements they can offer would be well received.
FrostyTheBeerman 2005-10-04, 07:56 PM Amazing stuff, I just tried what you said, and I now have learned something.
everything is like you indicated.... whooo ! :p :p

So you got the update? I forgot to check my box before I left for work today.

Often times these updates resolve issues, but they can also create new ones. If you search the forum for firmware updates released for other models, you'll see that they don't always go as planned. Hopefully this one has been well tested.
FrostyTheBeerman 2005-10-05, 10:40 AM Hi Derek,
yuppers :D , I followed AddictedToToys directions, and it indicated
0000 like he said, and it also had 0.14, so I'm assuming that means the
update has been completed....

I'd say hold tight, as I don't believe the firmware update that is being referred to has come yet. My version last week when I activated was 00.14, which is still showing, and with no target version appearing as of this morning when I checked.
derekp 2005-10-05, 03:08 PM Same here, .14 for close to a month now. Having a target of 0000 means the firmware hasn't been released yet in this case. The CSR told me it was coming out this week though, so I'm going to continue the powering down at night ritual (I usually leave the box on).
CIVIL GUY 2005-10-06, 11:51 PM Anyone who's been following my saga over the past month regarding the poor SD picture quality I've been getting on my Sony 57WS520 with the 505, here's the latest. Installer came and replaced the LNB - no change.
Can't think of any more changes or tweeks to try. I am now going to reinstall the old dish and hook up to my old 421B to watch SD programming. Enough is enough.

FrostyTheBeerman 2005-10-07, 07:20 PM which HDMI cable did you buy ? I see 2 HDMI cables on that page and both are $69.99 ( the link you provided )
I bought mine at Wal-Mart for $39.96,but that's a better deal than I got.

lenny 2005-10-12, 12:15 AM I just spoke to CSR today and I was told that "the firmware release has been delayed". I couldn't have figured this one out on my own!?% When I asked when they were expecting the firmware to be released they just said that they have no target date.
