The sale price should be available to everyone all across the country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BC is "Shaw" land, so they'd rather you buy a sale priced digital terminal rather than a sale priced Star Choice HD receiver. Thats why they advertise one over the other.

I have this receiver but there are a couple of questions that maybe someone can answer.

1) on many channel (speciality) I get the popup "a subscription is required etc etc", I know a firmware upgrade will fix this but when I send the command with my irblaster (I use Sagetv) I can't get rid of the popup!

2) RF out......is active even when the receiver is off! I can't mix the RF out on channel 3 or 4 with my Cable! (I know I can buy a digital modulator....or a filter) but why must be on even in standby! (right now I have a switch to mix the signal and watch satellite in the other room.

Do you guys have an idea/news from *C about a firmware upgrade?

Thanks and have a great day.

The 505 firmware is rumoured to be next in line.
It's alledgedly a port of the latest 'homebase' 530 firmware, sans DVR of course.

Since most of the remaining 530 bugs are DVR related, this code has the potential to be very very good on the 505, lets hope so.

After some internal testing and some field trial, I would think before the end of March if all goes well.

Except for the bug when you change channels and the bottom banner shows you have changed, but you're still viewing the original channel that you were on.

Thank you for your replies, I don't care for now about the popup bug but I do care about the RF modulator always on even in stand by.

I will buy a channel plus 3025 and I'll dedicate two cable channels (one to the htpc) and another one to the 505.....

I still don't understand why motorola leave the RF out active when the receiver is in standby!

Just purchased a 505 a few days ago (still on sale at Future Shop for $129.99) and I really love it. The only issue I have is with the Favorites button on the remote, which just cycles through stations instead of bringing up a screen showing you the Favorites options to choose from (like previous models). Hopefully this will be fixed in an update in the future.

HD has been awesome, though!

Could someone tell me what is included in the package at future shop for the DSR505?

Kind of remote, kind of cables etc...

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10064718&atab=&spviewed=&newlang=EN&logon=&langid=FR

There is not much info on the website.

You get a UHF remote (same as the 530's I think). It's a pretty basic 4-device remote with SAT, TV, VCR, and AUX buttons and only the sat functions are UHF. It's pictured and described in the manual, which is available from the SC website.

In the box are component, DVI, RF coax, and composite/stereo RCA cables. There's also a long telephone cord for instant PPV. If you want to use an optical S/PDIF audio connection, you'll need to buy the cable separately. Don't bother buying an expensive one.

I'm puzzled... I was going to purchase this receiver from FS 2 days ago, but the price was coming up as $199.99 when I got someone to price check it.

Anyone happen to know if they have to honor the website price?

I don't think so as online they are now sold out and their price match policy stipulates that it must be available for immediate sale. Plus, they can also require you to factor in the 'express' delivery option.

On the website, it says that sale ends on March 27th, 2006... if i am reading this correctly...

Anyways, FS won't even let me take the order at the moment.

.....No need to wait!...The Brick's "New Year's Madness Sale" flyer (in my paper today) has a net price of $49.95 (after programming credits) for the DSR505....So does that make the price $149.95 before credits?

.....You likely should get the a copy of the Brick's flyer as they have a $199.95 price on their website.

The Brick has an extra programming credit so it is possible they're still selling it for $199.95.

That's what happened to me.

The closest location was all sold out so I had to drive to a location that definitely wasn't convenient. Sticker price said $199.99 but the website price was $129.99. We ring it up and it comes to two hundred and some dollars with taxes. Tell the sales person that the website says it's $129, he looks it up on the web and sure enough, it's $129.99 and sale is good until March. So he attaches a sticker to it with the new price and tells us to inform the cashier. No hassles at all. I suppose if the $129 price were "web only" it'd be one thing, but even in that case they might honour it anyway.

I do wish there was a dimmer for the face of the 505, that thing is bright.
