: Toshiba 46HMX85, 52HMX85, 62HMX85 in FS

(from second paragraph of fine print in PDF)
"Neither WS nor Leon's assume any obligation to replace accessory or add-on items which, by their nature are consumable, disposable, expendable, or cosmetic. The contract expressly covers the working components for the product."
That pretty much eliminates any bulb warrenty, though a shifty sales rep wouldn't think twice about giving you a line of BS, (or an incompentent one wouldn't know what the warrenty actually includes.)
Key word here is 'accessory or add-on'. A Bulb is not an accessory. The stand is an accessory, the remote or it's batteries maybe. Another quote from the pdf: "No deductions. Many service contracts cover only some parts but this one has no exclusions from the manufacturer's original coverage. the Platinum Protection Plan takes up where the manufacturers leave off."
I think this pretty much covers it...
DJDiggler 2006-04-28, 04:21 AM The wording is tricky (as most fine print is) and could go either way. I think the bulb could be considered as an "add-on". It's a user replaceable part that lasts a limited amount of time. I thnk the important word in there is "consumable"... I don't know of many warrenties that will pay for something used up in the normal opertation of the product.
By all means I do hope they honor what they told you... And would be happy to be proved wrong, (we'll have to wait a few years). I just still remain skeptical as to how they can still make money after replacing all those bulbs.
Atimolos 2006-05-03, 03:42 PM Hello everyone,
I have been studying every post on this thread for a few days now, and would like to say thank you everyone for all there advice and comments.
Tomorrow is the big day, and I still haven't decided on the model yet. Does anyone have any final comments, I have narrowed it down to the following three Toshiba models:
62" HMX85: soon to be discontinued, but good PQ & amazing deals at FS.
62" HM95: New model, but considered lower end than the HMX models
62" MX195: Latest technology, HDTV not ready for 1080 yet, hefty price.
Thanks for your advice.
Michael
DJDiggler 2006-05-03, 09:34 PM I would highly recommend the 52HMX85. It may be "last years" model, but it has an incredible picture. I can't imagine how a new model could improve the picture enough to justify the massive price increse.

I'd recommend you have a serious look at the brand new 50HM66 model first. It's uses the HD5 chip, it's brighter, has greatly enhanced grey scale, 2 HDMI connectors and a fantastic picture with a slimed down case. It's just showing up at stores now, best price I have seen so far is $2348.
Atimolos 2006-05-04, 04:33 PM The deal is done.
I just bought the Toshiba 62" HMX85 at Brault and Martineau ( local Quebec chain ) for $3,199.00
Could have got the floor model from FS for $2.999.00 but thought it best to go for new.
Thanks again for all the great advice I got from this forum.
Regards,
Michael

Congrats Michael! You will enjoy it! I have owned this tv for 7 months now, and I love it. My original bulb is still going strong too! I have about 1200 hours on the bulb now. Ensure to get a high definition signal on it (be it Expressvu, Rogers or other), the picture is fantastic!
Enjoy!
Candyman 2006-05-05, 04:35 PM I just received a letter from Toshiba Canada dated May 1, 2006 explaining the bulb issue as we all know....and out of customer service, they are shipping me a new bulb within 3 weeks as a back-up.
I had my bulb already replaced twice and I know that the current bulb I am using is the latest ones available....that means I will be enjoying 8000+ hours on my current bulb and then switch over to me free bulb for another 8000+ hours.
Way to go Toshiba!
