No, I understand your question KB and don't have an answer for you.
All I'm saying is that if I have a Harmony remote which makes things so simple I don't really care what the inputs are called. ;)

Speaking of weird little details of these TV's, why is the power LED RED when the set's on and GREEN when you turn it off? Shouldn't it be the other way around¿

II just want the list of inputs that appear on my TV screen to be renamed. For example, I would just rather see, ANT 1 renamed to TV. While this can be easily done because 'TV' is an option that the TV allows but try to change one of the inputs to read 'PLAYSTATION' and you will see why I think it can not be done. The TV can display the word 'COLORSTREAM' (as default) put you can only sustitute it with something like 'TV' or 'CBL' or 'SAT' etc that is selectable from a list. Why can't you put a custom title in there?:(Because the set wasn't designed to do this.

I agree with Fisherguy,

Just get yourself an 880 and program it into there. Your life will be soo much simpler after that.

I love my 880! I wonder how I ever lived without it. My wife, her family, my family all can pick it up and use it so easily. All the guesswork has been taken out of it.

I agree with kbennett. I'd like to be able to rename the inputs. Even my 9 year old 27" Sony CRT could do that (4 characters). I found it odd that it was missing, given you have the option of naming the individual channels. At least put "GAME" or something in the list.

For me, when I change inputs I don't need to see some verbiage to indicate what input I am using as I know #7 is my DVD, #6 is my cable, number #1 is my ANT (cable card) and #3 is my Video 3 connection. When I want to switch to another input I just press the "input" button and the number and don't even look at the screen that comes up. IMHO that feature is only useful for someone that doesn't normally operate the TV and needs some direction as after a day or two it is meaningless for someone using the TV on a daily basis. What would be more useful is a single button to change to the input as opposed to two buttons or having to program a macro to change the input. There are function codes for the different stretch modes but I haven't found one for each input.

Yes, I agree, it is not a big deal and I don't need it. But lets face it, after paying over $4000 for this baby, you would think it would be loaded with little 'extras' that other TV's have been doing for years. Plus, why would it have an input factory labeled as 'colorstream' using 11 letters but can only replace it with 3 letters like 'VCR' or 'DVD' or 'CBL' etc...? So after months of use, the only 2 compalints I have with this TV is the inability to re label the inputs and the (unexplainable) noise that comes from the remote while the light feature is on.

Don't get me wrong, despite these 2 annoyances, I would still recommend this TV to everyone. Great picture wins every time!!!

BTW, I am getting a harmony remote but the new 890 has not been released in Canada yet. :(

I have the 52HM85. It has a HDMI input. They say the new HD DVD players have HDMI v1.1.

Will this be compatible with the TV I have?

Anyone noticed it. I just bought 62HMX95 two days ago. It was fine on first day but on second day, it showed up a grey tinted bar on Right side of screen, it's about 1 inch wide and its from top to bottom of the screen. I'm using SD Cable only for now, waiting for HD. It's also visible everywhere - on DVD, on VHS. Any suggestions, ideas ?

Searched through the forums, looks like Vertical Banding problem but also read that DLP are not prone to it, only LCD projections. Also, screen buring is not possible in DLPs as well. Very confused..

Other than that, TV looks and works great. Picture quality is realllly good.. Love it.

No problem Limber..

While i am here...for the HMX85 series, anyone been able to relabel the input selections? For instance I want 'colorstream 1' changed to 'playstation' and 'ANT1' to read 'TV'. It seems you can change them to read only such basic names as 'DVD', 'CBL' etc. If the default is 'colorstream' you would think you could type in any text you like. It is a small problem but I was curious, otherwase, still a great TV!

I just bought HMX95 series and it has the ability to rename Inputs from Colorstream to DVD/VCR etc. It's pre built in there, you can select but cannot type your own names. ANT1 cannot be changed to TV but everthing else can be.

I really like the set too, but am more than a little concerned with the bulb life!
Less than 3 months old, less than 700 hours and the bulb is gonna go any day now!
I'd tell people to hold off on any kinda projection TV until the bulb issue is fixed, god knows how long the second one will last, and I can't afford to spend $400 on bulbs every 3 months after the warranty's up!
Wonder how the new Hitachi LCD projections are for bulbs, was thinking of that one when I bought this...

Well, I had the similar concern for the bulb as well and I had read all about it at AVS Forums or here so can't complain that I didn't knew about it. But looking at the overall experience of the members, I found out that this is the best projection TV to be in the market. There were enough of scary stories about Sony LCD and Samsung DLPs. And on top of that, it's a trade off between enjoying a great TV vs waiting for all problems to get fixed. And so would be with PLasma and LCD for burn ins. I've bought it on VISA so good for 2 years, after that, who knows, this TV is not gonna worth a lot and the bulb prices should fall down as well.

So i've been doing some research and i think i ended up confusing myself.

i've read quite a few posts about how the canadian version of the toshiba 46HMX85 has the HD2 chip, and the 52+ ones had the HD4 chip

so when browsing the FS site, i see
"At the heart of the Toshiba 46HMX85 46" Widescreen DLP Projection HDTV is the HD4 chip. Combined with TALEN, Toshiba's advanced light engine and the Toshiba Radiance 150(TM) lamp quick start lamp system, the 46HMX85 is the offers you amazing picture and quality"

And im lost again, the sales reps dont know right from wrong, anyone have the light to point me in the right direction. I'm aiming to pay roughly 2200 for the TV, stand, extended warrenty (do you think its worth it?) and taxes. If that doesnt work with negotiation, i have a friend that works there and gets it at COST + 10% with 50% off on warrenty. but ill try n go legit first n shop around. but really am wondering about the HD4chip....anyone have an answer?

www.toshiba.ca does show the 46hmx85 as having the HD4 chip. Think the hm85 has the older chip. As for price, cheapest I have seen so far was Leon's and even then it was $2200 with stand, but xtended warranty was 250.00, which includes the bulb. You can pick up item yourself, save 3%.

For the price you're looking at, you may have to wait a while. Cost +10% may end up costing more than sale price...

thanks for the response.
how about the extended warrenty, besides the coverage of a bulb.
any opinions

I'm very sckeptical about these extended warrenties that cover the bulbs... every place I went to would NOT cover bulb failure as it is a "consumable" item... it's supposed to fail in X hours. Why would a company rep sell you a warrenty for $250 when he knows full well he will be paying $400 each for 1 or even 2 new bulbs before it expires? Even if you get it in wrighting I'd be suprised if they honour it. Remember these warrenties are a cash cow for stores offering them, and the above dosen't sound like a good way to make money.

That said I don't believe extended warrenties are worth it. Just buy the TV on a credit card that doubles the manufacture's warrenty and your set for 2 years. (Capital One Platinum does this.)

Was looking at the US Toshiba site, nice to see that we somewhat got boned with the HMX lines. I bought mine thinkingf this was the better technology at the time 2 years after the HDM 84 line, now it appears they a selling the hdm 84 line or the older ones for way more cash, that would back up rumore that Toshiba did cheap out on their chips, the older ones have the HD2+ as opposed to the HD4, they even are selling a Cinema series line with 2 HDMI`s . I am pissed, my pic looks good, but my buddie has the older version, and the pic is way better, the price diff on the site is about 700 plus, nice to see we got the cheaper of the two, I though Toshiba would go forward, looks like the cheaped out like Samsung, at the time they had the better chips in their pedestal models, not their whole line. Thanks Toshiba.

so ok, extended warrenty from a credit card seems all good
i checked with a rep (and of course hes gona try n sell me the extended from the store) but he said buld is only covered 90days, 3months from purchase date, and after that its not for the rest of the 1yr warrenty.
if i use a credit card, is that 180 days, 6months?

I'd rather pay cash and get a better deal on the TV but it might pay to use plastic too....

Just to make sure HD4 is alot better than the old HD2 right....?

(from second paragraph of fine print in PDF)

"Neither WS nor Leon's assume any obligation to replace accessory or add-on items which, by their nature are consumable, disposable, expendable, or cosmetic. The contract expressly covers the working components for the product."

That pretty much eliminates any bulb warrenty, though a shifty sales rep wouldn't think twice about giving you a line of BS, (or an incompentent one wouldn't know what the warrenty actually includes.)

Slick2404, Toshiba gaurenties the bulb for a year... if the rep says otherwize, I'd be wary... Is the TV a display model? That should still not affect the bulb warrenty, (but should definitly lower the price). He may be confused because the bulb was replaced with the "improved" one... some toshiba reps say 3 months warrenty on the new bulb, some say you get till the origional full year on the TV expires. (I prefer to believe the second one ;) )

As for the HD4... you DEFINITLY will get the HD4 chip. It is a very good picture, I love my 52HMX85 and have no complaints. To be honest I haven't even seen a HD2+ in action but I can't see how it can improve on anything. It's personal preferance I guess... try to get each side by side to compare.

For some price comparision I got my 52HMX85 for $2700 (TV,Taxes,Stand)(No extended Warr.) at A&B Sound on Dec 26. That was a VERY good deal back then... but I don't really know the current prices.
